Yeah, really sad. Seems to have increased as Apple's success and financial performance have dramatically improved under Cook's leadership. Why that bothers people so much is baffling. Well, not really. Some just can't stand others, whether a company or a person, enjoying so much success.
Perhaps a lot of us 'haters' used to love Apple as a company but have become disillusioned as the company has made one stupid mistake after another. Their financial performance has only improved under Cook because he is
still (even after all these years) riding high on the work Apple did in the late 2000's. For example, Apple has had tremendous growth in China, but that growth won't continue indefinitely. I don't see the iPhone conquering any new major markets any time soon, there really aren't any left to conquer. And since the iPhone is still Apple's only real source of enormous profits, I don't see Apple's stock price improving much more in the future unless they can tackle some entirely new product categories.
Cook isn't a stupid guy, he realized this years ago (as did everyone else in the tech world with half a brain). The problem is that Apple is being
really really stupid with the markets it is choosing to enter. The wearables market? Great, they can attract a small percentage of iPhone users. Not much money to be made there (compared to the iPhone). Cars? Apple has zero experience in the car industry. The automatic come-back line from Apple fans is that 'apple didn't have any experience in the phone market before the iPhone!' but that's extremely naive. The mobile phone market was already
very similar to the rest of the tech world. But the automotive industry is
completely different. Most of the same tricks that worked in the tech industry just won't work at all in the automotive world. Furthermore, there are already so many established players in the automotive industry (like Tesla) that will compete with Apple so ferociously that there will be no profits left in it.
I just don't see how you can think Apple has been doing a good job these last few years. The fact that their profits have gone up shows that they have good mid-level management who can squeeze pennies and dimes out of their manufacturing process, but I'm not seeing how Apple can continue this in the future with their current trajectory.
