I've been just informed by the service centre that they are unable to reproduce the issue and hence, implying they won't make any repair attempts. They said they talked with Apple tech and the the best advise they got was Apple "fixed" this problem referring to 19F80 fixes but that's a load of BS since that fix is unrelated to this issue and it's been up-to-date well-before I submitted it for repair 🤦‍♂️

Looks like it's going the way of escalating it further with Apple now. Such a pain and a frustrating experience after having gone through all the hoops.

A lot of BS indeed, it's clearly a hardware problem 😂. I tried to escalate it further with Apple too, and no replacement was offered for me as it "passed" all tests.

Hey guys! I also have buzzing ASD. I have noticed that mine does 2 types of sound. First is constant, more like clicking, this one shuts when the brightness is 100%. The second sound happens occasionally and it is very high pitched, almost ultrasonic. I have my ASD for 3 months and everything was perfect but then I moved to the new apartments and here it is buzzing! Now I am thinking that it may did this sound in the old apartments too, but it was in the middle of the room so I didn't notice it. Now it stays next to the wall and the wall reflects the sound right to my ears. Putting the pillow between ASD and the wall helps, but it is still noticeable. Also noticed that it is buzzing with any accessory connected to any usb-c port. Not only with macbook, but also with ipad, keyboard, mouse, usb-c mic.

Tried to turn off all other power sockets in the apartments, so the ASD is the only device connected, but it had no effect, still buzzing.

No other option other than calling up Apple and trying to get a replacement. Record the issue, share it with them and maybe consider sharing it here as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see a silent revision of the ASD's power supply. I don't know what the difference between one home's power line power is and another's that's causing the issue (likely something on the coil whine spectrum), but it's becoming clear that the ASD's power supply input specifications are too narrow somehow. So strange that even expensive uninterruptible power supplies and line filters aren't really helping, it seems. AC line current with slightly out-of-spec sine wave? Tons of RF interference on the AC line (like a giant industrial AC powerline network adapter)? Not an electrical engineer, so I'm simply throwing out guesses.

Hi all, I have the same problem that the ASP makes buzzing noises. I bought the ASD 10 days ago and have already tried everything to make the noises disappear (connected to the floor sockets, connected the ASD in the other room, deactivated all smart lights .....).

My ASD:

The buzzing comes as soon as I plug in my MacMini M1 or iPad 12.9 Pro 2020, but as soon as I plug in the MacBook Pro 2017, there is no more buzzing.

In addition, I live in a new house, accordingly, all electrical wiring is up to date technology.

I called Apple about the problem and I will get a new ASD tomorrow because I still have 14 days right of return. Tomorrow I will let you know whether the new ASD has the same issues or not.

Quick info:
I live in Germany, accordingly, Apple must immediately exchange defective products, or repair free of charge.

PS: Please excuse my bad English :D

Update:
I got a new ASD today, unfortunately it has the same problems, not as extreme but still audible.

The Apple employees are aware of this issue, but officially it is rather swept under the table. It is simply the poor electrical shielding of the ASD.

I would not recommend buying a new ASD or having it exchanged. Ask for your money back and wait for the new version.

According to leakers, a new ADS should come out in March 2023, with 140 Hz and MiniLed ;D

This is very disappointing to hear.

My case is now stuck with customer escalation department. Official word from Apple tech team is this is fixed by firmware update but it's not and my firmware was already up-to-date when I submitted the device. Very frustrating since it's been a week and I haven't heard back from customer support.

Considering your case, I'm very less inclined to get a replacement but I first need to talk to them.

So did they take it back and refund you? Or are you going for another replacement?

I had two options.

Option A: money back
Option B: new monitor

I chose option B and immediately got a new ASD. Unfortunately, the ASD still has the same problem and display damage (backlight) .... :/

Tomorrow I will get another new ASD, the third ASD by now. In the Apple Store will then be unpacked together the new ADS and tested, should the third then also have such problems again, then I get my money back.

PS: It may be that the buzz comes because of the electrical wiring in your apartment. My WMF toaster and Philipps Hue Light have similar problems. The best thing to do is to go to a friend's house, plug in the ASD there and see if it still causes problems.

Don't you have a 14 day warranty? Apple replaced my ASD without asking, and now I'm getting a third one.

The problem is known to them, but they will certainly not change the production. Either you are lucky and get one that does not cause any problems, or you get another defective one. If the ASD would only cost 500€, it would be less bad, but 1750€ and such a bad quality just makes you angry.

The firmware has nothing to do with it. All my devices are up to date. You can't fix hardware problems with software fixes.

Where did you buy your ADS? Online (Apple.com) or directly from the Apple Store?

It doesn’t happen in the authorized service center (at least not noticeably loud) so there probably is interference here but here’s the thing: none of my other devices including my bookshelf speakers has these issues. This is the first time I’m having to deal with this and I don’t buy the “problem is your house” conclusion when every other device somehow handles this properly.

I purchased from apple.com/in. Do you mean 14-day refund? There’s no refund policy for Apple India AFAIK but I wish they at least would go ahead and issue me a replacement after 1 month of back-and-forth. This is definitely an unacceptable trait for such an expensive product.

I know the firmware has nothing to do with it, I wish their qualified engineers would admit it instead of dragging this further. And the annoying bit is that I got my monitor 2 weeks after the latest update (1F80) dropped so it’s a non-resolution.

The new person appointed to my case just called me again and told me he needs another 24 hours to check with his engineers. This is just the most horrible experience I’ve had so far and I expected a lot better.

Even Dell, with whom I had bad experiences in the past, turned around, collected the flickering ultrawide monitor from me and issued me a refund in a matter of 2 weeks.

Going by what I've read, you will find no matter how many times you replace the display, you will have the same problem. There is something in the wiring of your house, but Apple's power supply design is clearly insufficient for these situations.

Yeah, I’m quite sure of that but I’m having a hard time getting a replacement approved. I hope tomorrow bears good news. Doubt they’d go for a refund at this point when the official stance from the service center is they can’t reproduce the issue. I’ll rather get a replacement and hope that I win the lottery and in case I still end up with another problematic unit, look into a refund.

I have now received the third ASD (this time with Nanoglass) and guess what: This one has exactly the same problem.

We tested the monitor in the store. It didn't cause any problems there, but at home the problems started again.

It is 10000% due to the power lines in my apartment. I read in another forum that someone bought an outlet adapter, some kind of isolator and has had no problems since.

Yes, we in Germany have a 14-day return policy. If products break after the 14 days or cause problems that do not originate from the owner, Apple must replace them.

But you can imagine that the Apple employees in the store are not very happy about that ;D

My old monitor was also a DELL, I never had any problems with it and it cost "only" 700€.

As long as Apple does not change the production, the other monitors will make the same problems.

Can you please point me to this outlet adapter/isolator? I'm out of all options I think.

Apple Support executive contacted me again to tell me that the final verdict is that "this is expected behavior" 😐

That's all. No words. Punch in the gut after pouring so much money into this ecosystem.

Of course, I've asked them again to escalate even though the previous person said this is the end of the road, but I guess I'll have to try to invoke my consumer rights through other means now. I'm envious of EU folks, I wish our country did the same.

Unfortunately he did not write which insulator he bought, but here is the link to the forum: https://uadforum.com/community/inde...s-when-connecting-apple-studio-display.57450/

I think a surge protector or line filter for the outlet would help.

What I just noticed is that as soon as I connect my iPhone to the ASD, the noise disappears. Same for you?
I tried different Belkin surge protectors I already use at home and a 16A → 6A converter but both didn't help curb the issue. I'll try asking in the forum.

re: the iPhone thing, wow. No, lol, it's still with the service center. I've asked Apple to look for an escalation option once again and if not, at least ship the product back to my home in one piece.

The buzzing fortunately does not damage the ASD, but the buzzing is annoying.

So Apple has now closed the case and you get the same back? I don't know the legal situation in India for Apple, but I think you'd better take the ASD to a local electrician/repair store and tell them the situation.

Tomorrow I will contact my facility manager and an electronics technician to have them take a look at the problems.

Looks like the the "isolator" mentioned is for fixing the noise happening with their speakers, not for the ASD itself 😔
