Have to agree his music is pretty horrible but I do like the new iOS alert sounds. He sounds like a worse postal service.

ps.. i was at their 10th anniversary reunion show.. and what an amazing live act they are.
Totally off topic, but they just did an international tour this year ... maybe after a decade they might MIGHT do another collaboration!
Personally I dislike Adam Young because he took The Postal Service's sound and distilled it into pure pop. Which in itself isn't a bad thing, but just not the direction I would have liked to hear their sound go.
On topic - I have custom ringtones and chimes, so Iv'e only scanned through the new sounds out of curiosity.

I would have killed to see it. The Postal Service did their video first, there was a small uproar at the time and Ben Gibbard made a statement of their discontent, but nothing ever happened about it.

If by that you mean bland then I agree.
I thought I was the only one who thought the new sounds were too similar and uninteresting. I had a hard time choosing between new age wind chimes at the beach or at the beach with new age vibraphone. Yawn. And I have a hard time hearing them.
I don't know why the soul has to be sucked out of iOS. My elderly parents ringtone is the old car horn. Their text alert is the telegraph. It cracks me up. The wife's text alert is the train whistle because of an inside joke from an old Simpson's gag.
I have to admit Summit cracks me up with the psychotic chirping bird.
I'd be more than willing to pay for ringtones by Dre (he knows how to make some good sounds!) than to pay for a pair of headphones "by Dre".
Begging forgiveness if I doubt Dre's chops as an acoustics engineer and industrial designer.

He's actually really talented. You're entitled to your opinion that his music is bad of course (I don't much care for his music these days either), but talent isn't an opinion.
Synthesizers play just like piano's for the most part. (Good) Electronic musicians have the task of playing and managing multiple keyboards at once, all while managing the laptop in which they run the sounds through.
I don't know about you, but one piano is hard enough for me!
As for his singing, I did see him live back in the day when I did like his music a ton, and he sings all of it without the auto tune (aside from a few songs which it is used for effect rather than vocal correction).
I'm not too knowledgable in the workings of electronic music, but I do know that it takes just as much talent (sometimes more) to play it when compared to guitar, bass, and drum songs.
I really respect and admire Adam Young. Owl City's music is pretty great, although I tend to like some of the older stuff more, it all has its place in the music world. I was shocked to find out he did some of the iOS 7 ringtones, that's pretty great!
