It is true, I work with metal. The shinny finish is a result of electroplating. The satin finish is a result of a chemical bath heat application. The composition of the nickel after the application is different. It also accounts for the different finish.

But I would describe the finish on the Nickel I just received as satin, not shiny, and it tarnishes quickly. Does anyone know if they changed the process and sent me one of the old ones?

Element recently added the following statement to the website about the nickle finish.

About Nickel Plating: Over time, the nickel finish will naturally tarnish - meaning it will get darker. Many people like this transformation while others like the bright luster of newly plated nickel. If this is your preference, the tarnish can easily be cleaned off with metal cleaner that can be purchased at any hardware or automotive store.

They have also said there is an updated version coming. As I mentioned before I made two orders last Sunday. The one has already been delivered. The second order contained a Nickel case and hasn't so I wonder if they are working up a new design.

You would know the difference. I have both cases and one looks like chrome and the other is alot duller. The satin finish is alot rougher and they send out a cleaning cloth with it. If yours is extremely smooth and looks like chrome then you have the old one and it does tarnish fast. The new satin one that I have been using has been used for 4 days and still looks brand new with no hint of tarnishing so far, not to say that it wont but its not near as bad as the old one. I sold my old one because of having to clean it almost every day. Hope that helps you.

Now I am just confused. The finish is not shiny (I would call it sand-blasted), but it does tarnish. I'll have to check the box to see if I missed a cloth.

I never said it wasn't shinny and it does not look sandblasted either. Its just not as shinny as the original. And if you had the cloth you would know it. You can't miss it, it comes in a bag by itself. You must have the old or or original nickel. I haven't seen many of the new style.

I got mine also, was very excited for this one because orange is one of my favorite colors and was kind of disappointed because its more or a copper than orange. I decided not to keep mine.

I think I saw it on ebay? My son got black and orange and we both didn't care for it. Mine was blue and silver, so I took the blue cap off of mine and put it on my son's black main part, and it looks cool! I put his orange / copper/ gold whatever color it is supposed to be on my silver main section, and it actually looks good too.

Anything to make the kid happy. Me...I really could care less what color it is. Heck, my wife's hot pink and black looks awesome. Like I said earlier, we ordered 10 of them and picked out what we wanted, and I sold all of the rest of them on ebay last night. Actually brought in $1098.00 for the 6. After I deduct ebay fees, of about 10%, it turns out that we actually made enough to cover the cost of the 4 we kept.
I gotta tell ya though....the ugliest ones were the frost / red and frost/grey combos. The frost sections looked like old unfinished aluminum that was exposed to the weather for too long. It looked really dull. Not sure what the attraction to that is, but to each his own. Guess I like things shiney!

I haven't put mine up yet so they must be someone else's. I actually like the frost and the ar15 the best. But I am done with them. I'll try the raw and then I am done. Glad you made that much money, hope I do. Element still owes me 8 cases though.

So that's why its so hard to order this case. If everyone is buying 8 or 10 cases and running a small business, those of us who want one for personal will never see their case. Oh well, you certainly have a right to do that.

I am not trying to run a business. I just don't know which one I actually want so I ordered several different ones. I waited my turn and have every right to order as many as I want. Not to be rude but after 3 months of waiting, I have earned that right. When you get the chance, do the same if you like. Its hard to tell from a picture which case you will actually like. I thought I would love the orange, got here and hated it. So I am glad I ordered all the different colors I did.

How true, so has anyone ordered the Black/Yellow Vapor4? If so can you tell me how bright is the yellow?

Thanks,

WHAT!!! And I though we were gonna be friends. :D Don't like the frost?
The frost looks soooooooooooo good! You are right, to each their own. The frost isn't slippery like my Black/Black was and I find that a hugh plus. And I totally love the contrast in texture and colour.

I got to agree with you. I love the frost, both of them. Like they say man, to each their own. My personal favorite is still the ar15, its just nasty looking.

Live with the frost and it really grows on you....very cool looking in the office fluorescent lighting....really contrasts the red cap, IMO...

Out of the 6 cases I sold on ebay, 4 were purchased by people that have bought and sold multiple vapor cases over the last few weeks. What I cant figure out is how they make any money after paying $220 for an AR 15 case. After ebay fees, they would have to get at least $240 just to break even. Who is paying that much for a case???

Orange and silver combo

I swapped the blue from my silver and blue with my son because he hated the orange copper color. Now he has blue and black and I have orange and silver. I posted a picture of it. Also see the el cheapo $5 carbon fiber skin I received from Ebay. 3m dinoc paper and looks good. Actually has texture to it.
I know the silver and orange probably is ugly to some, but I don't think it looks tooo bad.

Read some posts before posting, newb. No offense but you've got a 94 page thread here of people bitching about reception issues.
Yeesh

Lol you could easily find one person per page who has issues with the case

I really like this! It's not ugly at all! It's really really cool! :)

I bought the silver/blue combo also. debating on a second color that would look nice when swapped. I think I've found it!

You'd be surprised what a man opening a box while driving (at a red light) can miss. I tossed what I thought was the empty box into the back seat, but further investigation reveals the cloth in a second box. There is also a packet of "Flitz Polish."

So it seems I do have nickel v. 2.0. Please be advised--it still tarnishes, and quickly.

Here are some pics of the modifications that the dude I sold my 007 Vapor to made, I have to say that I like it with the mods, he also says the signal got much better. Wonder if it could be cut to look like that case that has the sides missing. Might look pretty sweet

Edit: To correct that last sentence, wow I wrote that fast and sloppy

Thats a great idea to cut out the spot that covers the antenna.
Maybe the new Vapor will have this done to improve signal.
That dude must be pretty handy. He did a good job.

I sent a note to Atomic that I wanted to return it and got a note back that said - "OK, let us send you a new case that has the sides cut out, or a whole new CF frame type. Frankly, the cut sides don't work too well compared to the CF frame - which one do you want?"

Well, Duh....

Element Vapor case possible signal fix ?

Has any of you owers of the Vapor try to insulate the two halves from each other?

for the signal testing purpose:
1/ have some tape sandwitched between the connection points of the two halves.
2/ leave out the screw for now. use tape the keep the two halves together.

my theory = it's not the alum. that's covering the signal , but the two halves behave as a "ring like affect" that degrade the signal.
if you know physics : it's like a electrical field around a metal rod or magnet.
in this case it's the alum. ring having some kind of signal degradation field near the ip4 metal band...but if the rings are not connected, the "ring" effect wouldn;t be there anymore?!

my 2cents :)
