This is a good idea as long as it does not impede the performance of the speaker and does not obstruct the Bluetooth signals (depending on its material). It's not metal so no issues should occur - looks like a hard PET plastic or glass reinforced plastic which is extremely strong and sturdy, plus the o-ring and the four screws. It appears the AirTag sits inside the AirVault holder and the speaker inside the AirTag does not move, it's like the old PC speakers just miniaturised.

Although I like Apples AirTag design I expect thieves will now have a new target to go for especially if the AirTag is attached via a loop externally to any bags - a portable target of sorts. All the thieves have to do is detach / remove / destroy the AirTag if externally exposed and keep the goods - presto - not that difficult. AirTags have been designed primarily for those who lose things, and is mainly a locator, not a theft deterrent or theft prevention device. Thieves now know what to look for - literally.

For those requirements the AirTag needs to be nondescript - aka - Non Apple coloured as is stands out like a sore thumb currently. For AirTags to be used in bags it would need to be either sewn into the bag or maybe velcro on objects however its "I have an Apple product" appearance is too attention-seeking for those who use theft as their hobby. This TagVault effectively hides the colour of the AirTag to make it harder to find inside bags and less obvious outside bags which would reduce the instances of theft as well. As for those complaining about the "hard" processes of replacing the battery with the TagVault, take your pick - leave the AirTag exposed for criminals with easy battery access or incognito to reduce theft and advertising but more effort to replace the battery.

yea, that link won't open for me. should i be worried?..

all the hard work... :)) found it, Thanks. the 4-pack vs. 3-pack is a total ripoff!
Glad you were finally able to get on the site. Basically if you buy the 3 to 4 pack each one is about $10 each vs. $12.95 if you buy just 1.

cushy lifestyle? i'm not going to go through the trouble of unscrewing/rescrewing just for the sake of PROTECTING A $29 DEVICE. want to talk about who cares? who cares if your AirTags gets scratched.

imagine if you had to screw on a protective case for your mouse. talk about cushy lifestyle, who cares if things get scratched.

what a nightmare.

lmao, of course youre not. because your "nightmare" is 4 screws.

there are people who sleep in tents under bridges.

your perspective on life sucks.

by your logic, looks like we gotta put cases around our shoes, cases around our AirPods, cases around our Apple Watches, cases around our backpacks. because since all of those things cost more and are more important than a $29 device, we should case those up too, right?

no. because that would be a NIGHTMARE. 🤦‍♂️

JFC, that is such a stupid take. we're done. 👋

Around here, we have to put a coin into the shopping cart so we can detach it.
I often get distracted when grocery shopping in big stores and then have to look for my cart. Other people moving it around while I'm getting something doesn't help and you just can't take it with you everywhere.

I want a way to attach the airbag to that coin that sticks out from the cart a bit. But in a way that's not too flashy and not too easy to remove. Nylon pouch with a welded shut keyring?

that looks like a nightmare to take apart just to replace the batteries.
Which means it's also going to be a nightmare for someone who possesses your item to disable it by simply taking out the battery.

Four screws is hardly a nightmare for something you do once a year.

I understand you're speaking for yourself. I'm just saying you have a REALLY low threshold for "nightmare" if this is it. And the oil-change/tire rotation comparison makes perfect sense. My point is if THAT isn't a nightmare to me (and many others who DO change their own oil because they don't trust dealerships to do it right) - something far more time consuming and "harder" - then surely removing and replacing 4x12 screws once a year shouldn't be viewed as a nightmare. It just struck me as funny to hear someone say that. Should take a couple seconds to remove and replace each screw, especially if you use a cordless screwdriver.

I'm not sure what a "screw gun" is, but a cordless screwdriver is all that's needed and tons of people have those.
And that's why we don't have replaceable RAM or Hard Drives anymore :p

And there’s a requirement with these that you can’t do the same thing? Either buy 4 different holders, or differentiate them in some way? (Paint them, tie a ribbon on them, stick a colored label on them, whatever?)
Stop talking sense 🤪

yea, you're right — i'm not sure why i thought that last night — i guess i figured it was the more you buy — the less they cost, but it's still the same deal. :)

Apple could have just added a round hole at the side of the airtags, so you can use anything you have at home, but no, they had to create an eCoSySteM (has "eco" in it)...
