What is UP with people nowadays on MacRumors???

I quit posting for a few weeks, and when I come back its nothing but a bunch of angry jerk-offs who insist on saying they are sick oh hearing this and that.

Obviously your still mad about your OS X on x86 post....

Think about your statement. You haven't posted for a few weeks. Well in that few weeks we've heard so much about OS X on x86 that people are sick of it, that is why i replied to you that way. It was at least the third thread on that topic started that day. It gets a little tedious to push through them all to some real discussions and everyone keeps posting the same "proof" on the subject.

As far as this post goes, people are complaining because the whole ellen thing is a little over blown. I hardly think doing a apple commercial(stoned or not) makes you a celebrity. There were some way more charismatic people in those commercials that would have made better "celebreties" than ellen.

So don't come back after a few weeks and start the 50th thread on x86 hardware and expect people not to say they've heard enough...

Next time read a few posts before posting and you wont get a "not this again" response..

Its a FORUM. You are going to hear nothing BUT 'this and that.'

If you are tired of Ellen Feiss, then dont click the post that says "Ellen Feiss Interviewed"

Are you a dumb-ass or WHAT? Jesus!

Exactly, its a forum, where people are expressing there opinions whether it be for or against the topic at hand. Being sick of something is a valid opinion on a topic.

I'd rather not argue any further on the topic, as i can tell by your post with words like "jerk-off" and "dumb asses" I can only imagine the type of conversation that would ensue. I'm not a disagreable person, but you talk about it being a forum, and as such all opinions are welcome...

WOW...

She's so hot! That is what this EF phenom is.

"I watched the ad online and thought it was brilliant and that Ellen was totally charming and funny."

This girl is beautiful and charming. Sure that Janie girl is hot, and so was the DJ, but EF has got it going on. More power to her! I hope she takes her show on the road and becomes mtv's youngest VJ ever. Go GIRL!

Aaron props on the spot man, but I wouldn't post that link:

Ellen's Celebrity

My first post... I have to catch up on a few things:

(a) Macs are *great* computers for stoners... play with the magnification on the dock under the inflluence. Its facinating. Good for people who thought she was stoned. Great that they are interested in buying a Mac because of that. So the ad was somewhat minsinterpreted - all the better I say, reached more people.

(b) The 'Dell Dude' is ridiculous. I've never been impressed by *any* commercial of theirs, and including him in their campaign overtly illustrates their desperation in trying to reach my 'millenial' age group.

"Dude, you're gettin' a Dell!"
<sarcasm>Yippee. I think I just wet my pants.</sarcasm>

(c) Whoever posted that morph pic of Ellen and the Dell Dude - thanks. Thanks a lot. I'll be having nightmares for the rest of my natural life.

(d) Aaron. I can't help but feel that your reaction to Ellen's fame is in part guided by jealousy, part misunderstanding. Your first post was mean, and others reacted the same way. Why? Shouldn't Apple be trying to reach every single possible person on the planet and convince them that their product is the way to go? (aside: has anyone seen 'Moonlight Mile' with Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, and Jake Gyllenhaal? Susan Sarandon's character, speaking to her daughter's fiance (Gyllenhaal) says "Ain't it the tits you and I have the same name?" ...that's the funniest damn thing. Has anyone actually ever heard that reference before? I hadn't. Maybe that's why its soooo funny. Anyway...) So, the point of that was to say instead that Apple's product is the tits. Ha!

Ellen is a teenage high school kid. Do you *know* how much high school kids spend on crap?! Someone else pointed this out earlier. On average, high school kids are going to school, and working. Not much else. Most live at home. What do they spend money on? Everything. Watch TV. Go to the movies. Notice anything? Marketing is directed toward younger and younger age groups. Why? They're in the money. Its not exactly complicated.

Celebrity. Is also ridiculous. Why are the people who are famous so infamous? I don't know. Does anyone? We are a funny group... society. All different... you know, individuals. Weird. Weird how everyone has different tastes and not everyone likes the same things. Man! I wish everything was mundane and boring. Then, maybe I could get excited about getting a Dell. Ellen excited a group of people. That's all. You are angry because of it. Why? You seemingly excited a group of people as well. Excellent. Apple is *reaching* people. Isn't that a good thing? Why be upset? So Ellen's image doesn't appeal to you, no big deal. But you are attacking others for being interested in that image, and that just isn't cool.

(e) Janie Porche is cool. By far the most fun ad yet. Where are the other celebrity ads? Does anyone remember the one with Will Ferrell (of Saturday Night Live fame)? *Funny.* The Japanese ads are cool too.

... ciao.

Nope. I have never questioned Apple's decision to use her, and I understand why they do. As I stated before, she has nothing I want, and being in her shoes doesn't appeal to me at all. Every time this girl sneezes it shows up on the front of 14 different websites and people talk about how great her snot is. I think its ridiculous.

Then stop talking about her.

If you really didnt care about her position, why did you post a website saying your commercial was great?

Just chill.

Go back and re-read. I posted that site in reponse to someone's criticism of my commercial, not as a comparison to anyone else's commercial. And it turned out that their criticism was sarcasm that I didn't pick up, and we made nice.

As for just chiling, I'm entitled to my opinion like anyone else and I expressed it here. I don't keep writing about her, I keep defending myself against people who assume I'm jealous because I'm tired of hearing about a given topic.

Ad Week isn't really internet journalism - it's a respected trade magazine that happens to have a web edition. And if grammar was any kind of measure of credibility, the entire Internet would be shot to hell.

Aaron

Why is everyone is uptight on what Aaron said? Who cares if he thinks she's some dumb teenager? I don't sense any jealousy in his words. It was not that much intended to offend Ellen, but more to those people who idolise anyone who seems even only remotely stoned. Frankly that's something which bothers me too, but I guess that's life.

My reaction came from this...he could have said

I really dont understand the interest in Ellen. She seems to me to be a normal teenager who just happened to do a short commercial for Apple. I think its really strange that she has gained such a following when she has not done that much.

Compared too...

I'm so fscking sick of hearing about this girl. Really, she's nobody. She's very plain and boring and it's just sad that socially retarded, internet-obsessed shut-ins and horny teenage boys have clung to her for reasons intelligent people can't lower themselves to understand.

The latter of the two seems to be a bit harsh, no?
And the harshness is towards a fellow switch person. You would think they would all be glad for each other that they are helping out apple and got a few seconds of fame. But the jealousy comparison is the easiest thing to come to, when you fly off the handle about a girl who is getting attention for her short and funny ad. See what I mean?

Yeah I see what you mean. But c'mon sometimes people don't always watch their words and especially not on a forum. Anyway, I'm not gonna pick sides and I get your point.

Man, what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you attacking a 15 year old girl? What if it gets out that you think Ellen Feiss is craptastic? What you are saying could easily be misinterpreted as that. Now how would THAT look for Apple? About as bad as her being on MTV.

Did we miss this? I said it for a reason. This discussion revolves around what *some* people are interested in, and what others are not. It is horribly offensive to assume that the people that "cling" to her are unintelligent, obsessed freaks. I appreciated the ad for valid reasons, the same as I appreciated yours. So you are disappointed in actions that you take as distasteful. Fine. We are all inclined to have our own opinions, and *noone* has the right to say that your opinion isn't valid. But the initial comment was harsh and mean, and seemed like a personal attack on a girl that has no input in this conversation.

... ciao

If only I had a nickel for every personal attack on every switcher that they weren't there to witness... Each switcher has taken his or her personal share of sht since this campaign began. I think I've heard or read every nasty, degrading, untrue, maddening, and insulting thing people could possibly say about me. A lot of it shows up in my personal inbox! Much of it is on Mac-related forums. Generally I have not responded, except in a couple of cases. But that's all part of being in the public eye. Ms. Feiss is in the public eye like the rest of us, and apparently she seeks to be even more public. What happens when those American Idol judges get a hold of her? ;) There are much harsher critics out there besides me.

well, it seems to me you dont like people talkin trash about you...

so why turn around and talk trash about another switcher?

My point was that it comes with the territory whether I, or anyone else, like it or not.

It does come with the territory, but i dont think thats good enough excuse for someone like you to chip in.

Ok, so recently, there was "the game"...football between harvard and yale. It comes with the territory as a harvard student that yale people are gonna talk smack to you, and try and put you down. I can say "yeah, well, guys, thats what you get for going to harvard and being around yale people" but im not gonna say "yeah, thats what you get for going to harvard and being around yale people...and by the way, you DO suck, harvard isnt nearly as good as yale! stupid sons of biznatches!"

Dont fuel the fire.

I'm stoned in public, and I look it, ALL THE TIME. Where are my legions of supporters/fans/whatever with websites about ME?
