Exactly. Developer here. I’m quite happy with what Apple’s 15% (I don’t earn millions…) gives me - legal, tax summaries (for all countries), a comprehensive back-end to app analytics, a secure App Store (preventing malicious apps which might compromise mine), iCloud server integration & data storage, payment system for customers, app review process as well as technical support.

It’s a fee for service… and we should stop listening to the multi-million dollar companies (and individuals) who think it’s a ripoff, while they pretend to care for the ‘little guy’. It’s that very thinking that’s put the USA in the terrible position it’s currently in (and other countries want to follow). The likes of Bezos, Musk, etc. are repulsive. Stick that Epic guy up there too.
Also a developer, and I pay $1,000 a month on CDN bills alone and my app is not that popular. I also pay for websites, advertising and more. I don't have an iOS version, but I would definitely prefer Apple's fees.

There must be another way to get people’s attention Elon. Maybe you’re addicted to Twitter too much.

The car that’s not going to be coming at all 🙄
Then why have Musk have taken trashing Apple to whole new level as of late?

He finally realized Apple Car is REAL and is further in development, and it’s coming to completely disrupt the car industry even further and Musk sees that as massive threat to Tesla.

Apple Car IS coming, just give Apple some time to make it perfect where Tesla has failed.

And Tesla is not going to charge any fees for licensing, for access to the Tesla network, etc …?

Tesla just wants to be first, rake in the Federal stimulus money that comes down the pipe to build out a much more comprehensive network and become a de facto standard that way, me thinks.

Nope. It poses a security risk that I do not want. And I don't want to have to have training sessions with all my friends that do not know tech because if THEY get hacked, MY info gets out and I get targeted.

This can lead to exploits in the security that might be slipped through even when the setting is off.

Why does everyone here think they have to train their friends? It's a phone. What kind of friends do y'all have? I have never had friends ask to train on their cell phone. It's not rocket science. lmao

Well, without wanting to insult you, but maybe your App misses something specially unique to become popular. E.g. the 9999th Asteroid Spaceship game won’t bring the bread for sure.

Cool. They suck at the service, overcharge, and I'd like to do it myself. How do I operate my own store to reach my customers using Apple devices?

(The best answer is to serve my app as a website. It's an okay answer, not a great one.)
the answer is don't use apple devices if you dont like it.

You do know outdoor cats live far shorter lives on average than indoor cats?
Not if you train them to survive. If i let you out and cross one of these dense India roads without prior training, I’m sure you won’t make it long, too.
Cats needs training as kitten, just like you got hand hold by your parents for many years, till you learnt(i hope so) to safely cross a road. Forbidding you to get out is a solution, but not the best one, at least i hope your parents didn’t try this. But yeah, there are parents who trap their kids for years in a cellar or in their apartments, just to protect them.

Ah, Elon Musk. Guy who started selling “Full Self Driving” to paying customers seven years ago, and they still haven’t shipped the non-beta version.

Thank you... I wish more developers would chime in on these topics here.

Do you develop exclusively for iOS? Or do you develop for Android as well?

What would Apple (or Google) have to do to make you leave their platforms altogether?

I'm not a developer... but it seems like getting 85% of something is better than 0%

:)
I'm exclusively on iOS and I'm only small-time. Due to the nature of my app, the fact I need secure storage & syncing (iCloud), with privacy being paramount (ie. medical information), I just have no interest in developing for Android. The Apple ecosystem ensures that almost every one of my users is on the same iOS version and has hardware that I know will work - you can't guarantee that with the myriad Android devices out there!

I'm pretty careful in that I only use first party (ie. Apple) APIs so things don't break when a new iOS comes out. In many respects I get new features for nothing which is nice. Apple would have to fundamentally change their model before I'd leave to be honest.

It's hard to create a great experience on both platforms. Most developers who develop for both use a generic development process which 'ports' to either iOS or Android - the result is a terrible experience on both platforms which fails to take advantage of the best APIs on offer on both sides. Even really big companies do this, which really irks me.

I'd rather just create a great experience on one platform. My app has actually lead to people buying iPads just to use it, so that's nice ;)

Elon is on fire today. He's a genius but sounds like he's mad at Apple today.

Wow you found the one second of the two hour video that he touched the joint. As long as it fits your narrative, go with it.

It’s a tax. If you want to deliver an app to the 40% of the US that uses the iPhone, you must pay the tax.

Businesses have no choice. That’s anti-competitive, because they can’t go to someone else if they want to reach that portion of the population.

Walled gardens decrease competition, raise prices, and ultimately result in slower advancement of technology. They are not good and we shouldn’t defend them.
If you build a wall it is for defense.

Musk is a megalomaniacal, narcissistic monster, plain and simple.
I love him too.

Does Elon also means I can now poke around my Tesla without them calling me and being asked to stop?
You have a Tesla, awesome you are so lucky, and you open it with your iPhone, so cool

Surprise, surprise--the guy who can't seem to figure out QC on his own products thinks he can run Apple better than Apple can. I guarantee you that if/when Apple ever does create a car, they will not use cheap-o paper thin paint or forget to bolt things together. For example--like, the entire top of the car, Elon. You forgot to screw on the entire top of the car.
But Sandy Monroe says things are much much better now. I guess you are talking about Tesla problems from years ago.

Yet Elon has no problem taking U.S. and Chinese money to get the biggest subsidies and grants any company has ever received. Let alone profit by virtue of taxes on other large companies producing ICE vehicles?

Yet he wanted to be CEO of Apple and was told to go somewhere?

You would think that someone now seemingly so outspoken against Apple would never have wanted to be CEO?

Again its a do as I say, not as I do with Elon

It's not coming, time to get real 🙄

Elon is trolling. Just ignore him. Yes, he is a genius in some areas but that’s more from his Aspergers. He is currently angry over Branson, and especially Bezos beating him to space. Elon is all talk. He doesn’t have the balls to ride in Dragon into space and back. Never will. He needs to strike out due to his all consuming jealousy over Cook and Apple’s earnings.

For him to take the position that Tesla is any less of a Walled Garden than Apple simply demonstrates his ability to go off on a fantasy rant.

Its like he’s already on Mars. Then again, in his mind he very well may be.

I am not looking to be uber successful. I didn't make my app to make millions. I am happy with how popular my app is. My point was that mine is not that popular yet I still have extreme costs.
