250 miles = 4 hours of driving 60 miles per hour. i doubt anyone's daily commute is that long. and if you do then shoot you need to move closer to work.
Yes, I was referring to traveling situations. Or you drive far to your friend's house then drive places afterwards and never get to charge. Of course, that's all because we have gas stations everywhere instead of battery swap stations, and battery swapping isn't as practical as filling up a tank of gas. Charging stations won't work so well because they take too long. Gasoline is still the most easily portable energy, unfortunately.

Nice.

And what else is Musk supposed to say? That they are taking our best people and are going to make a better car than we are? We need competition in this space for prices to drop. If true, I am glad Apple is making a car to compete with Tesla. And I really like Tesla.

If I was the CEO, and confident in my company, that is pretty much what I would say. I would wish my people the best, and say that I welcome any competition because I was confident in my product, and competition will motivate us to innovate even more.

I am a huge Tesla fan, and am seriously considering the Model S for my next car. But Musk's comments here did seem like he was overcompensating and is truly worried about a possible Apple Car.

He does have a point. I love OS X, but everything else seems like Apple is trying to go as slow as possible. There is nothing Pro about the iPad Pro. A bigger screen with split screen, and an advanced stylus with keyboard cover does not cut it. It should have been called the iPad Plus. There is nothing innovated about the Apple Watch except that Apple finally made a watch. And iOS is slightly better than Android, which both of those are plenty better than the Windows phone OS. Apple has even regressed is some aspects like how they did with their Mac mini lineup. No longer do they offer quad cores but only dual cores now. I love OS X along with Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X. But in reality, if it was not for those two professional Apple programs, I would be getting a Surface Book. The hardware looks awesome and from the time I've spent with Windows 10, it already has a workflow a thousand times better than Windows 8. Hopefully Apple will implement Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C in their next Macbook Pro, knowing Apple though, they will milk it for as long as they can. Apple really has not been the same since Jobs died. And Windows is starting to look like Apple did when Jobs came back to the company in the late 90s.

I more or less agree. I've been buying Apple for over 30 years but lately I don't find myself remotely excited about anything they are doing. The watch, like you said, brought nothing new to market. They made a nice product, but it's hardly different than many other offerings. The new Apple TV is a very safe update, especially the underpowered gaming features (two controllers...sigh). They're pushing a bunch of half-baked services. iCloud Photo Library destroyed my photos and iCloud Drive can't sync documents to save its life. But just wait for the car! It'll be amazing!

Meanwhile, Tesla builds a vehicle that can drive itself and goes 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds, beating every other car company on the planet. I don't think they're worried about Apple.

Apple could straight up buy Tesla if they wanted to. Maybe they should.

They should. It would give them a big jump, especially when it comes to software and all the control systems. And the brand. No one is going to get excited about an Apple car. Apple is a consumer electronics company. Driving an Apple car sounds douchey. They need a car brand and Tesla has a great brand.

There are Tesla Superchargers everywhere too.

He said it like a jerk, but he's right that electric cars are much more meaningful than iToys. Though Apple makes a lot more profit... infinite times as much profit.

Meh, Elon Musk made a claim of rock soup, got a bunch of suppliers to throw in good tech, and got various governments to throw in prime steak subsidies, then took all the credit. Anybody smart left for Apple already.

I actually know people who use Apple products to help children learn in at risk after school programs and treat sick patients in hospitals. Sure there are lots of sides to Apple, but the basic simplicity of their products makes the world a better place.

you guys don't know Elon if you think he's scared of Apple's car... He encouraged other companies to build electric cars and even made all Tesla patents available for anyone for free...

Those certainly aren't the comments of a CEO that isn't worried about Apple. I'm a huge fan of both companies and both are great innovators, but Musk sounds nervous to me.

It seems to me that if Musk were worried about competition from Apple, he wouldn’t have placed Tesla’s electric car patents in the public domain for anyone to use.

Wow, more salty Apple fanboys in this thread, how surprising.

Elon Musk's ambitions eclipse that of Apple. Apple just wants to make money, Elon Musk is above money. He wants to change the freaking world and shape the future of technology. Meanwhile, Apple is still selling people 16 GB iPhones so they can punk people into purchasing iCloud subscriptions.

He isn't remotely concerned about Apple. He wants others to enter the market. Plus Apple isn't going to build a car to compete with a $100K Tesla.

Then you laugh it off or be coy about it, you don't diss multiple Apple products and suggest that making the iPhone is as simple as Cook calling Foxconn and asking them to build it. What was that if not dissing Apple's engineers and implying that Foxconn does all the hard work.

And, it's especially amusing if you know the history of Tesla... Google something like 'real history of Tesla' and enjoy. Yea, building a car is complex... really complex. And it isn't as if Musk cracked it either.

Or maybe they leave because they're fed up of working for a ****.

+ Haven't Tesla's cars all be crap so far? Every time they were on Top Gear they just got ripped into for how unpractical they're.
I have a feeling that was because top gear is so in bed with the auto industry and makers. Tesla examined the car after the tests TG did, and found that there was nothing wrong with the car and the review was flawed. Plus it made for good tv for the hosts to have a laugh about an electric car, so honestly I'm not surprised.

Wow, "tesla graveyard". Bold statement.

As a former or current employee I would be furious at his comments.

You don't insult your ex-employees like that. Makes your current ones wonder what you think of them now. Talk about a morale drop.

I just had a scary thought.

What if Microsoft announces plans to make their own rockets?

Actually he has done a lot of innovative or "new thinking" things.

The key fob being one. Retail stores in shopping malls the other. And I can go on and on.

Won't work. BSOD is too common.

He doesn't need to have class. Steve Jobs didn't have class. He straight out called people bozos if he didn't like them.

Anyway, Musk is Tesla's boss. What do you expect him to say?

Not to publicly bash your employees both current and former.

Musk wouldn't be talking **** if he wasn't concerned about Apple's potential car. Makes me think he might know something that the rest of us don't about Apple's plans.

This is the first time I heard Elon Musk sound like a little bitch. I thought he was better than that. I guess there is a first time for everything.

Tesla's work is awesome. Their market and mindshare outside the "car enthusiast" markets are arguably pretty tiny. Apple has more cash available than any other company in the world that I know of. They may make a car. I could see them buying Tesla into non-existence or marginalising them into being a boutique manufacturer very easily indeed.
Tesla will probably release 2-3 more new models and even more model 'updates' before Apple releases their first model. It won't be so easy for Apple at the start, but probably the 3rd or 4th gen Apple Car will be the one that starts to really pull ahead of tesla cars. Cars in 2025 are going to be nuts. Just what I think will happen
