Elon Musk: If You Don't Make It at Tesla, You Go Work at Apple

Because if the roles were reversed then it would be acceptable. But because its elon musk its not. If Tim cook or phil schiller made such a statement this whole board would be singing hosannas in the street. Lower your reality distortion field. Phasers not on stun.

You're the one making quotes up (and resorting to "if this would be bla bla bla then you'd be like I'd want to be you to be"), so if you're that unhappy with the general attitude on this board to the point where you need to resort to your own fiction to be happy, I'd say that you're somewhat... err.. amusing.

Can you give me one single quote by an Apple exec who comes across as "arrogant" in an interview about making cars?

What is your source for the "we will build the worlds best car" quote?

People on this forum and other places in general have been on the "Apple will come in and do it like no one else kick" since the rumored car was announced. I honestly believe if apple. had made the comment that elon made then it would be totally acceptable.

I don't see what was wrong with his response. But i guess in 5 years when the apple car is a flop we can catch up. The general attitude on this forum are very elitist pompous apple users. I love apple products but i don't act as if they were created by jesus himself and are creations of perfection.

Also dangerous to fire shots at the richest and one of the most influential companies in the world

You can believe whatever you want. You have that right.

It doesn't have to be a bad thing that Apple hires the people who Musk says "couldn't make it at Tesla." As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Yeah, potentially these people probably have more fire burning in them to compete against tesla than anyone else. Passion can drive people to do wonderful things.

Musk should be expected to make comments in support of his company, but his glib comments don't even sound intelligent. What is he even talking about in reference to the apple watch? That they entered a market hundreds of years old and outsold all of their competitors in a single week?

How does that bode well for Telsa as they enter the auto market? If anything, the Apple Watch should tell Musk that he should be very, very worried.

If Tesla is hiring apple employees as well than his argument is irrelevant. There must be something about those people that you like and apple did not.

People who make fun of the Apple watch don't know technology. It is not far different from all the 250$ fitness bands around, but it integrates better with your phone and has a lot more functionality. All while still resembling a classic timepiece that people have spent thousands of dollars on for years. Yes it is a niche item, but that doesn't stop apple from selling millions.

Meanwhile, you have tesla who does make great cars with great technology. However their future is questionable with the price of their vehicles. If you don't think current automakers such as bmw, mercedes etc. will eventually have similarly priced vehicles with the same capabilities your mistaken. Tesla will never be a volume car dealer, and you will still see honda, toyota etc. creating cars with improving technology with a competitive price but doing so with the needs of the consumer.

If apple is creating a car is questionable. It may be vehicle integration, but whatever it is tesla is certainly worried about it. but i never see either of them being more than the land rover, porsche type vehicle which are a niche market and not many people driving them compared to the major brands.

That threw me off as well. I mean, I assume he's referencing the Apple watch as a flop. Although it didn't sell the 850 trillion units that investors wanted or analysts predicted, it's sold several million and is, in my opinion, a great success for a product that is, in its current state, a $350+ iPhone accessory.

Apple will undoubtedly build a car that will soar pass Tesla. No doubt in my mind. It will be one of the best cars on the planet. I am super excited for what Apple brings in the next 10-20 years.

Of course you believe that, and yes, there would be certain people who could find them completely acceptable but there's a large amount of people on here lately that would have bashed them right away. But either way it's irrelevant as Elon Musk was the person making those comments, hypothetical stuff is fun to talk about, especially when you shape it to your own agenda, but ultimately I prefer to stick what has actually been said. (one of the reasons why I despise the "Steve would have" (or as "piggie" would say "Steve would of") crap).

Exactly. People were making parallel to Balmer trashing the original iPhone. However, remember that, at that time, Microsoft was so much bigger than Apple so Balmer could afford to make fun of Apple. So, at least Balmer wasn't being stupid. In this case, Musk is just being stupid.

You're nuts! You stole those engineers and you're a lying nincompoop, saying those were rejected engineers. Tesla doesn't need geniuses. Cars are simple technology. What Apple makes are a lot more than what you make. Just look, you're trying to eke out of your bills!

Damn it's about to be thermonuclear war between these two companies in a few years when the Apple car is out.

What people don't realize about Apple is that they can take an existing product that works perfectly fine and just make it much better than what was out there before.

They did it with the music player, phone, computer, tablet, watch, tv. How many of these products by competitors have they seriously hurt or put out of business. While I don't believe they can shut down Tesla, they can seriously hurt the car business when they enter the market.

So, if I was one of the former tesla employees that defected to Apple, Elon basically called me a bad/fail engineer. I'm going to be extra motivated now to build better cars than Tesla.

I really like Musk. He is definitely pushing his companies into the future. I wish someone at Apple was doing that. Instead, Apple is pushing into fashion and accessories and pink hardware. We know how long that stuff sticks around. Very fleeting and inconsequential. The software has been suffering the most. I used to look forward to software updates. Now I dread them since it seems to make things worse.

Who would you believe more if they said Steve's famous line "....or do you want to come with me and change the world?” Tim Cook or Elon Musk? Tesla is the better bet.

Or maybe they leave because they're fed up of working for a ****.

+ Haven't Tesla's cars all be crap so far? Every time they were on Top Gear they just got ripped into for how unpractical they're.

Actually, I think they're the only cars to have perfect scores in recent car reviews.
(Musk still sounds like a douche.)

Um...
New Tesla earns perfect score from Consumer Reports August 27, 2015
Consumer Reports rates vehicles on a zero-to-100 scale, but Tesla's high-performance, all-wheel-drive car scored 103.
"Consumer Reports had to make changes to its scoring methodology to account for the car's exceptionally strong performance," the magazine said in a statement.

Any other CEO I would agree with you. But Musk's experience with SpaceX probably inspired his comment. Making and designing rockets from raw materials and manufacturing them in the US with his own dime is much different than designing and assembling lcd panels and chips.

He successfully developed rockets at the tenth of the cost — again manufactured in the US, (did you know the Atlas V rocket used by NASA is Russian? And we have trade sanctions on them, how will we resupply ISS?) again, against all odds. SpaceX is the first private company to resupply the ISS. This is NOT something Samsung can just copy.

Why do people want to work for these companies over Apple?

Musk is selling what the 2015 SHOULD have been before people got pessimistic. Apple is selling a fashionable wristwatch, even with hordes of cash. This is why people want to work for Musk, they believe in this future, not Tim Cook's. Similar to what Job's sold.

Certainly investors will probably favor Apple's model of making insane profits, but at the end of the day I want to work for a company that is bringing meaningful change to the world.

I no not of one person I know who owns a Tesla or has traveled on a rocket, I know personally of hundreds if not thousands of people who's life has been enriched by the iPhone!!!
