Well, I hope Elon can make Twitter censorship-free. If he does that, he will be my hero.

I don't care for the platform and barely use it, but for sure it has a huge influence on our politics and society. So Hopefully, the crazy censorship will end and free speech will be restored.

This is what America is supposed to be about. We need to hear all voices, even the ones we despise and disagreed with. Censoring who we don't like means eventually will come to the ones we like.
Another echo chamber for racists and bigots, great.

This cracked me up... Feels about right...

There's the problem..

How do you know if a news story is fraudulent content or not?
If a story is totally BS, it shouldn't be shared to zillions of people, right?

Who decides?

See how fast this gets messy?

(not poking at you by the way --- just highlight how hard this really actually is)

I think the validity of content should be left to the reader with an emphasis (if any) placed on citing proper sources.

Using Covid as an example, social media removed some content as misinformation. Some of that content we later learned was not misinformation at all. Mind you, I am not picking a side on this. Covid is an evolving and fluid situation we are still dealing with. The facts we know today are vastly different than the facts we knew near the start of the pandemic. In the same way the facts we know 20 years down the road will signficantly outweigh the facts we know today.

By ‘free speech’ he actually means ‘hate speech’, of which there’s already more than enough of that on Twitter! Time for me to give up the platform I think.

Ah good old greed is alive and well in America, where if you are rich enough you can control all social media. Can’t wait to see how the platform meltdowns after this disaster.
Please. Communist China, Iran, Hamas, all have Twitter accounts. This "I'm concerned" stuff is all fake.

That sounds good in isolation and at "normal human speed"
It's really complicated, really quickly, with something like Twitter.

Within seconds, large accounts can blast out total BS out to millions of users and algorithms begin reacting immediately.

Your points are great, but it's so messy when it's a tech situation at scale.

I really believe that a vast majority of folks, understandably, don't quite grok how hard this stuff is at the speed and scale of worldwide interconnected tech.

Worth a read.

You mean we should just leave it up to The New York Times or CNN?
Steele dossier, Covington Catholic, Jussie, Hunter's laptop, and on and on... 'shared' with zillions of people, right?
We should allow people to challenge these narratives, present facts, make the case, and let the true facts fall into place. Instead, we have people silenced because 'the really smart people' already have it figured out. We are 2.5 years into a pandemic and we have no real understanding of how it was started because nobody is allowed to discuss it. That's pathetic.

Huge fan of Elon and what he’s been able to accomplish over the last three years.

Although I don’t have any social media/Twitter accounts, I’m curious to see where this leads.

I’m still trying to figure out how important Twitter actually is. According to its users, it’s the single most important communications medium the world has ever known, but if you poll any group of people on the street, most will tell you they don’t use it. So, is it actually important, or is it just a bunch of self-important wannabes pretending their part of engaged in some great, modern world wonder? It seems more and more to just be a handful of people in an echo chamber hyping each other up and screaming at the rest of us to take them seriously.

I have a few friends who don't use it at all
They are often so out of the loop on stuff also

That can be good, but it can also be bad (depends upon the subject and situation)

Just "checking out" on what's going on is sort of a bummer for voting members of society.

Literally what makes you think a car company CEO can save a social media company other than the fact that he’s rich?

I’ll never understand the blind loyalty to Elon Musk.
A car company. A drilling company. A rocket ship company. And now, a social media company. You check the stock of Tesla lately?

Ask yourself this why is the liberal media so outraged. Is it because they really want to help the oppressed or is it because they are losing their grip on power. To me identity Politics has always been about dividing us. George Orwell called it. The left would use propaganda and tech to gain power. We either have freedom of speech or we don't. There is no in-between.

as long as it doesn't evolve into platform where hate speech is magnified and users hopefully have to be verified, I am all for it. already there are too many anonymous users who are allowed to pick on minorities and vulnerable people.
