what a dumpster fire - Elon really has no clue what he's doing.

He knows what he's doing but what he's trying to do is a spectacularly dumb idea.

Reportedly, he's trying to turn TwiX into an "all-in-one" type app (shopping, social, gaming, advertising, communication, etc.) that are very popular in other parts of the world. The problem is that those other parts of the world have specific reasons for needing or wanting a single monolithic app like that that don't exist in the US--namely, the difficulty of apps existing where the government exerts more control over its citizens' use of the Internet.

You're simply ignoring the things that blocking does solve because there are things that it doesn't.

You're ignoring the things you think blocking solves but are easily bypassed.

What’s your app?
Why so you can leave 1-star review?

I'm not doxxing myself. :)

Have you considered that harassment can extend beyond the platform and information from your account can be used maliciously outside of twitter? It's not just about them disappearing to YOU. Sometimes, for your own safety, you need to disappear from THEM.
Have you considered blocking doesn't solve your problem like you think it does?

No because muted accounts can still see your feed, harass you, share with their friends, etc.

Line is an all in one app popular in Japan and gov doesn't really control the citizens' use of the Internet.

i can block accounts faster than you can make new ones.

i can buy 1000 twitter accounts for cheap actually. takes less than 5 minutes. meanwhile, blocking too many accounts in a short period of time will flag your account on twitter as a bot. no joke, has happened to me.

Twitter launched in 2006.

So?

Twitter ain't an all-in app so they start of that would be 2023 (well 2024). In order for this to take it would need other big players to offer "sub apps" for inclusion which they won't unless there is a demographic on X they couldn't reach with their 1st party apps.

All while X is as popular to a certain demographic as Bud Light is to another.......

Never mind that Twitter’s privacy/security legacy is…not the greatest and now they’re asking people to hand over their banking information. It’ll go great, I’m sure!

This is ridiculous. To be honest, he’s the one who doesn’t make sense at this point. He’s probably just mad at all the people who blocked him.

All of his decisions since he ever took over Twitter never made any sense to me. I thought his rebranding to “X” was the worst one by far, but this one is even worse.

This is giving me even more reasons to quit Twitter and delete my account. I barely even use it anymore so I might as well just do it..

No, I'm not. As I've explained multiple times. I acknowledge that many impacts of blocking can be bypassed with effort from the abuser. But many of them don't want to got through the effort. Blocking is effective for them. In my experience, that's the vast majority of them. Not every ******* on social media is obsessively evil. Most of them just move on.

Your argument is that blocking doesn't always work, so we should remove it. That's silly, because that does even less to solve the problem.

Far be it for me to solve the worlds digital problems, but every profile on every social media platform should be private by default and the user should be required to actively select if they share the posted content with themselves only(diary), friends(mutually followed), or general user-base.

*fixed forever* ;)

Companies are already on board with X support via DMs and X marketing. Considering the large user base, it's not long until companies start allowing purchasing of goods and services inside X especially when you include it within the advertised post.

Users are spending money on X premium/subscriptions. Users are getting paid by X. All the cards are in place. Not difficult to see.

Regardless, the argument was all in one apps are a thing because of gov controlling internet in that region. Japan is an example of showing that's not entirely true. You're changing the argument to "all in one apps are popular because they had a head start". Different argument.

No need for analogies. I'm well aware of how blocking and muting works.

Blocking an account means the person can switch to a different account and still dox you. If I was a troll and I found I was blocked, I'd just switch accounts and say "hey, it's me again" and proceed to harrass.

Also, did you know that if that person doxxed you in the replies and then blocks you, you cannot hide their reply in the comments or report the particular post to get it removed?

Blocking doesn't solve anything and only makes things worse.

Absolutely has to be out of sight, out of mind. There's no way around it.
Wow, what a wrong take. Making it hard for them by blocking them is better than just ignoring the problem. Most of these bullies will just go away, making it harder for them to harass. If they get another account, block that one... and the next ... and the next... until they get tired and go away. Muting them just lets them continue. As a matter of fact it makes it easier for them since you can't see what they are doing. Also, why is anyone defending this move? It's obviously a stupid change and would most likely get the app banned from both the app store and the google play store. When are people going to realize Elon Must is an idiot who doesn't understand anything about human interaction? Strange than anyone thought he would be able to run a company built on human interaction.

Many do. Therefore, problem is not solved by blocking.
*sometimes. Most of the time it is solved. Sometimes, it isn't. But solving a problem most of the time with one tool is a win. For the other times a different tool may be needed. Getting rid of a tool that works most of the time in favor of one that doesn't is dumb.

The people saying mute is the same seem completely ignorant to how social networks actually work..

It’s not even close. If someone is ****** to me I don’t want them interacting with my followers on my posts. People can harass without just targeting the person blocking them. If someone’s trolling all your posts, you need to be able to *stop* them, not just ignore them. The whole point of Twitter and Facebook is you have *your* space there, which most users consider themselves partially responsible for the curation of. If you can’t make your posts safe for your followers, you have a dysfunctional social network, and people will continue to leave.

Brand accounts must hate this idea too.. nobody other than trolls’ experience would actually be improved by removing block.

This will make X close to unusable for anyone who talks about things likely to get them targeted by hate mobs, or even just rogue creepy weirdos.

It is funny to see the downward spiral though… I left a while back.

OK, Elon....put down your software toys. It's time to get back to your hardware.

Maybe renaming it X was a good move. This is looking less and less like Twitter every week. Maybe down the road, someone could maybe buy the name and resurrect it?
