Except for Zip2, X.com (which ended up merging with PayPal). And while he's not a rocket scientist, or an automotive engineer, he did play a large part in developing Space X and Tesla. How many Apple products did Steve Jobs actually design and build? None. He was an ideas man and knew how to put together a team and get the most out of them. That's what Elon Musk does.
Correct. He didn't become a billionaire by accident.

Congrats, he can call himself an engineer, despite having never went to an engineering school, nor having any degree in engineering.

I have a title behind my name. Did I waste money going to school when I could just have made it up?

Well if you were a self-made billionaire like Elon is while running some of the biggest companies in the world, you too would be able to give yourself any title you wanted at one of those companies!

No, I couldn't, because I can get arrested for claming my title without having a degree behind it.

You seem to think that billionaires should be above the law or above the rules. I disagree. How he made his money is a little relevance.

Well... yeah. Pretty much most of his behavior screams comorbid autism and bipolar disorder - along with a hefty dose of narcissism :) It is a spectrum, and I'm pretty sure he hits most of the colors 😆
Are you licensed to diagnose those?

Twitter replaced RSS for me for following/consuming news. When this deal closes, I'll need to find something else. I will however enjoy watching Musk try to remove moderation and subsequently face app store rejections and regulator fines.

Love it, he didn’t actually have a choice. There was no “legal” way for him to back out, setting aside that billionaires don’t need to follow laws anyway…

Look at Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla never had a degree in engineering. Yet, it's universally agreed by well respected engineers around the world that Nikola Tesla is an engineer.

Just attending an engineering school for a bit doesn't automatically make you an engineer. I don't know what your point is.

I personally know someone who never went to college, yet is making six figures as a software engineer at Google. Is he not a software engineer?

Why would he face regulator fines? It'll be a private business when he takes over, it won't be publicly traded anymore. He can set the rules as he sees fit.
Fines around moderation and outlawed speech (e.g. in Germany incitement to hatred is deemed a criminal offense and nazi imagery, expressions of antisemitism, Holocaust denial are effectively banned)

In 2017, Germany passed the Network Enforcement Act (Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetz, NetzDG) (also called the “Facebook Act”). The law did not create any new duties for social media platforms but did impose high fines for noncompliance with existing legal obligations.
Many other countries have their own unique rules on speech. You can't not-moderate.

I’d prefer him to stay away from twitter. We don’t need yet another MAGA Elephant platform in the world… 😱

Just going to an engineering school doesn't make you an engineer. I don't know what your point is.
So, my girlfriend is a civil engineer for the federal government. Do you think they would look kindly if she just said she was an engineer, despite having never went to school for it? He's not an engineer.

This is all off-topic anyway. He can do what he wants with Twitter; I don't use it, I know no one that does, and I don't care if he burns it to the ground. The Internet would be better off without Twitter.

He's the biggest fraud in the history of business. Guy has literally done nothing. Didn't even found Tesla.

Hes basically a business celebrity who makes money because he's a business celebrity.

To be fair that seems to be an actual job these days.

But yeah Twitter and Elon deserve each other. I'm not an Elon hater necessarily, but he definitely loves his online drama and Twitter is the place to stir it, so go nuts. Maybe people will stop taking Twitter so seriously.

Twitter is the last organization on Earth that should be in control of a critical communications network.

Unless "literally" has a new definition, this is incorrect.

He's accomplished far more than any of us here, I guarantee that.
Like what ?
Achieving stuff that has been done before ?
Having stock prices so out of kilter with reality it make Theranos look legit ?

Engineer is possibly one of the most abused words in the English language.

Well yeah I don't think anyone on the forum has personally manipulated millions of dollars in stock value with gifs and smart ass remarks. Please comment if you have, seriously.

Civil engineering requires licensure, but other engineering fields do not.

BUT...I agree he is not an engineer, neither by education, licensure, or practice.

I got turfed off Twitter, its algorithm is designed to keep you in conflict.
Getting turfed was the BEST thing that has ever happened to me, I realised how much time I completely wasted, I am now off doing this that actually make me happy.
ALL my social media engagement has plummeted because it is all a waste of time , I socials now more with REAL people.

I wish more people understood this. Social media algorithms are transparently designed to keep you angry, because an angry user is a highly engaged user that can be ruthlessly monetized. It's a looking glass that shows you exactly what you need to keep coming back, which for some is the need to constantly feel like a victim or censorship. It's genius in a ... very evil, society-destroying sort of way.

Elon is not going to change this, because at the end of the day what he ultimately cares about is making money.

Hope he reins in all the strange bannings and over the top censorship 👍
Oh, you mean the Elon that banned people from buying a Tesla if they publicly badmouthed him?

There is going to be all kinds of censorship. Just censorship he agrees with.
