Ya know, I read that idea on the first or second page of comments, and thought it had some merit.

Ye is a creative individual. Maybe he did make those terrible comments (whatever they were) on purpose to show people A. What the limits of “free speech” are and B. That Musk really is an okay guy and willing to moderate clear hate speech.

(I have been told the comments were very anti-Semitic)
I saw the picture he posted and I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to describe it here, but it was clearly anti-Semitic. I didn’t see any comments he posted that would be considered that but perhaps I missed them.

I’m glad Ye put Musk in that position because it made him stand up and take action showing he’s capable of doing the right thing. This not only shows to people who are worried about this, but also to warn others that may be considering doing something similarly offensive.

The same people that criticize Apple for human rights are likely buying clothes made by children in some terrible sweatshop. Of course you can buy properly made clothes by union workers but then you’re going to be spending significantly more money. Then it would come down to well do I buy some great clothes made by union workers and not have money for groceries or buy the clothes made in a sweatshop. In the end, just like Tim most people are going to do what’s best for their family.

No, it’s not a good situation but it’s reality
I'm only guessing but I don't quite think that's the main reason. I think the reason many criticise Apple along with certain other individuals or corporations is the hypocrisy. Virtue signalling with skeletons in the closet seems to have became standard for some.

Of course people would like Apple to not do that, but, as you say, it's a harsh reality that will take time to undo. It's the virtue signalling while at the same time doing sh#tty things that riles most folks I reckon.

Hehe. Maybe Elon should run for President. Then democrats can stop calling everyone MAGA or Trumpies just for wanting to vote for common sense policies
You do know he can’t run for President, right? He was born outside the US to non-US parents. He’s South African by birth. He’s ineligible to run for President of the US.

When it comes down to it, companies are designed to sell products. They are going to do everything and anything to sell that product. This is their mission. If that means a little bit of virtue, signaling to attract a specific customer base then, why not?

I would like to think Apple is going to be around for a long time so in order to achieve that if they have to do a little bit a virtual signaling, I’m OK with that. It’s all about salesmanship.

They were.

So antisemitic they forced Musk to quickly set aside all that yakkity yak about free speech absolutism.

Musk knows that having a platform for praise of Hitler and Holocaust denial is an advertising repellent, not an advertising magnet.

As a 24 year veteran, it's very disheartening to see the level our discourse has sunk to. Wasn't always like this. Seems name calling is want passes for disagreement these days. Not going to follow this thread. Too depressing.

Elon is not going to support free speech for everyone, and the elite (i.e the same people that helped finance his Twitter purchase in the first place) have zero issue with practically anything Elon has said/done since talking about purchasing twitter in the first place. Anyone who thinks Elon is some anti-establishment icon needs to re-evaluate.

In fact the elite probably love Elon's twitter more than Jack's twitter! Think about it: Elon's twitter can double down on anti-democratic practices whilst avoiding accusations of being "Big Tech" because Elon has distinguished himself from it as a whole. Once people start complaining about something he does he can simply roll out the "XYZ people are trying to bring me down because I'm going against the establishment!!!" excuse and his supporters will line up to defend him.

A mega pentagon contractor and professional banker is not going to "make the elite uncomfortable" lol
" anti-democratic practices" lol. Okay, sure. Just more hysteria. Another moral panic from the left.

If Apple has indeed returned to being a leading advertiser on Musk's Twitter, I find that disturbing and profoundly disappointing.

People here are losing their minds over a one source story. And that one source is... Elon Musk.

The whole thing, all of it, is spin from one person, who is very invested in crafting a narrative about his business. Unless and until we hear someone confirming this, it frankly isn't worth publishing, except as tech gossip.

Have a little skepticism, people. Don't believe everything that you're being spoon fed.
You realize that this has always meen a gossip site, right?

I'd wager the CEO of Twitter can see ad spending on Twitter. Just a guess.
Can we believe Elon on this or anything else? The dust up with Apple was of his wn making, he said they were going to ban his toy (I mean Twitter); but where is the evidence of that? He said the Apple's advertising is resumed so other companies will restart their advertising hoping that Apple won't deny his statement.
