Elon Musk has threatened legal action against Apple, claiming that the company is violating antitrust rules by favoring OpenAI's ChatGPT in App Store rankings over his Grok AI assistant.

"Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation. xAI will take immediate legal action," Musk said in a post on X (Twitter), which he also owns.

Musk failed to provide evidence to support his claim. Meanwhile, fellow X users noted that DeepSeek reached #1 overall on the App Store in January, long after Apple's partnership with OpenAI was announced that allows Siri to offload complex queries to ChatGPT.

The tech billionaire also criticized Apple for not featuring X or Grok in the App Store's "Must Have" section. ChatGPT currently holds the top spot for free apps, while Grok ranks sixth. Google's Gemini chatbot sits at 57th.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hit back with his own post on X, calling Musk's claims "remarkable" given allegations about Musk manipulating his own social media platform to benefit his companies.

Musk's remarks come amid growing pressure on Apple from regulators and competitors over its App Store practices. In April, a U.S. judge ruled that Apple violated a court order to open the App Store to more competition and referred the company for a criminal contempt probe, following a case brought by Fortnite maker Epic Games.

The same month, the EU fined Apple €500 million ($587 million) for violating the Digital Markets Act, citing restrictions that blocked developers from directing users to cheaper offers outside the App Store. Apple is currently appealing the fine.

Elon is a pathetic Not-See crybaby.

"Hey what's the diameter of a Billard ball and a snooker ball?"

ChatGPT/Gemini: 2 1/4 inches and 2 1/16 inches respectively.

Grok: I hear you bro, I loooove playing Billards but the answer is...

Honestly I need short concise answers, I don't need Grok to make small talk with me or worst yet started flirting with me before giving me the answer to what I asked. I prefer the more ad focused Gemini to both TBQH.

Use a different adjective. Dumb people don’t have Elon’s resume. Only a dumb person would say that.

Musk is certainly not dumb, but something seems to have happened to him around the time of the "Pedo Diver" comments and beyond.

And now he seems fully captured by and addicted to the "mob" he's cultivated on Twitter.

It's an echo chamber of some truly awful stuff at times.

Elon’s ai will gladly lie to you, favouring nazi opinions and conspiracy theories over truth.
It’ll even tell you England is awash with riots and revolution.

Is it possible that it’s propensity for hate just affects the apps store rankings?
Say what you want Grok is consistently the best coding AI, at least for Swift and SwiftUI. Every complex task I throw at both ChatGPT and Grok, Grok actually gets it done and done right.

Its so good I pay per question via the API in Xcode 26 vs use the unlimited ChatGPT that costs me nothing:

No need to be dishonest.

For anyone that doesn’t like a set of information and thinks the system is rigged, there’s no amount of information that can come out of that system that would disabuse them of this notion.
You are absolutely correct. If someone is just angry and thinks the system is rigged, then they’re not going to believe anything. This doesn’t stop Apple from being transparent though.

If the truth is that they suck, and the metrics of the system shows that they suck, they’ll just see that as indicative of the problem.
I wouldn’t call being number 5 on the top 10 app as sucking. I would love to have the number 5 app on the Apple App Store 😂

How about kicking grok out of the AppStore?
for what reason? Apple is already getting a lot of legal attention for being controlling over the App Store and locking down their devices. I don’t think that would be justified or beneficial to Apple.

I’d love Apple to countersue and demand all Tesla users be allowed to opt-in to CarPlay.
While you’re likely joking, this is not beyond the realm of possibility. Just like Apple keeps getting legal issues with locking out other app stores Tesla could face some legal problems there.

Someone’s been smoking too many joints today 💨

Too many people are too quick to scream “unfair!!!” these days when they really mean “not to my advantage”.

I’m so tired of hearing about this drug-addled idiot.

Here Elmo, take a good look at the actual problem:

How do you know if he's not right?
Apple should include the weekly/daily download figures in the charts! Problem solved🎊

Just take a look at the reviews in the App Store for apps that have switched to subscriptions! The preview, before you go to the reviews, always shows 5-star reviews from 2, 3, or 4 years ago!

And I haven't trusted Apple's average star rating for a long time either: For these apps that have switched to subscriptions, the average star rating remains extremely stable, even though there are endless 1-star ratings. Something's definitely wrong there. Apple is manipulating the ratings.🤷🏻‍♂️

If you walk down the street and ask any random person, they will almost certainly have heard of ChatGPT. If you ask them about Grok AI Assistant, almost no one will have heard of it. ChatGPT was the first big name in the space that normal people heard about.

The App Store rankings directly reflect this. It has nothing to do with Apple showing favoritism.

MAGA are the champions of hypocrisy and double standards. We've seen it every day since the beginning of the current US administration.
Let Elon sue Apple if he has nothing better to do. I trust Apple will prevail against such frivolous lawfare.

Perhaps Elon needs some tutoring on how to behave in a society where there are others folks liked lots more then he.

His mantra is "I may not be much, but I am all I think about" This comment omits the stash of cash. As a person, I think he is about age 6 mentally as he wants all of the attention like most 6 year olds.....

Weird to see so many here with the juvenile Musk attacks (so original) without actually addressing what his beef is....

One doesn't get to simply disregard all the "awful" of Musk and his track record and only talk about his particular complaint here.

That's not how life works (nor should it).

You’re probably right. Tim Cook is a good negotiator. This is one of his major talents that helps him with supply chain. Look at how he got DJT to reduce tariffs on the iPhone. People complain about Cook, but he’s a good CEO.

Maybe Tim Cook could get a deal to license it and replace Siri with one of Grok’s voice assistants. That would be pretty awesome since Siri is about useless.
If Apple starts using anything linked to Grok, I'll sell my Apple products and switch to the competition. Seriously. And I'm not alone.

Right there with you, but I'd only switch once I was forced into it being part of my OS (forced to upgrade for compatibility, etc).

I want no part of Musk and his toxic views in my OS or day to day computing and internet experience.
