They won't.

They have 80 years of experience to see what works and what does not work. If that means that it takes 3 times as long to build a car while still being cheaper they will do just that. If it means doing more stuff at the same time to have the same build time than they will do it that way.

In order to be as successful against well established brands Tesla would need to be at least 50% better (which they were when noone else cared about EVs) but once the dust settles it will be almost impossible to >10% ahead (just like in every other industry with healthy competion). At that point costumers will stay loyal to their brands (even more if the alternative is "chaotic evil") and Tesla will be niche product like Jaguar, Alfa_Romeo or if they are really lucky Porsche.
lol yeah ok, tesla production technique and their tech is so ahead of the competition, legacy auto has to reshuffle their deck hard to even stay relevant in the Ev world. folks like you been banging this dooms and gloom prophecies for tesla since tesla's inception, but competition has come and go and yet tesla is still number 1.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has encouraged customers to buy the "Cyberwhistle" for $50 instead of Apple's much-discussed Polishing Cloth.

telsa-cyberwhistle.jpg

The product page, which Musk shared on Twitter on Tuesday evening, offers a limited edition stainless steel whistle with the same distinctive design of the Tesla Cybertruck:In October, Apple released a Polishing Cloth for $19 which quickly became the subject of ridicule due to its presentation and pricing. Musk had already expressed amusement at the Apple Cloth after its release, and in a follow up tweet, he drew a comparison between Tesla's spoof product and Apple's Polishing Cloth.

The Tesla Cyberwhistle was available for $50 and is already sold out. Meanwhile, Apple's Polishing Cloth is heavily backordered, with new orders due to arrive as late as February 2022.

And then,Apple responds with... "Keep that stupid whistle clean and shining with our cleaning cloth".

Don't see anyone else missing USB ports. Thousands of car and computer companies out there who aren't doing this.

Like Ayn Rand, Elon is an ungrateful welfare recipient and both of their fanboys have screws loose and missing parts.
They're missing other important components like BMW not having touchscreen functionality.

A whistle? Really? . . . Hey, remember that time that Elon couldn't save those kids, so he blasphemed the real hero that did?!?! Yeah..me neither.. dAddY eLoN ruLeZzz!!!

This.
It's also ridiculously difficult to catch up to the current manufacturing leader if you're already behind, because they have incredible scale. The only way to catch up is if a new technology appears or the leader makes a serious misstep. He's also not considering that the manufacturing process is an evolutionary process. Machines and processes get swapped out and improved on a rolling basis, making it difficult for the competition to catch up.

Additionally, with scale, a leading manufacturer can experiment with new techniques while the competition with a more limited CAPEX budget has to wait until costs come down to justify the investment. This is why Legacy autos waited so long to get into EVs, because the lithium ion battery prices were just too high for them. Tesla had (And continues to have) a cost advantage through more scale. This gave Tesla time to experiment and refine their processes while the competition did nothing but wait. Now the competition is where Tesla was back in 2010 - shooting in the dark and trying desperately to attain cash-flow positive status.

because they have incredible scale.

Tesla has "incredible scale" compared to VW, Ford, GM, Toyota? Mmmmmmkay....

Machines and processes get swapped out every time, making it difficult for the competition to catch up.

Nope, that stuff is build and calculated for 20 to 40 years and do it shorter you either bought cheap scrap that will cause trouble or your products won't be competitive on price.

That was in reference to the stock price, not the valuation. Note the date. This was posted 8:11 AM PST, May 1. The Tesla 5-to-1 stock split was announced August 11, 2020.
If you really do have that much invested then I know that you know this bubble will pop…. It would be hard for me to believe anyone with that amount of money invested does not wake up with their finger on the sell trigger every morning…. However I do understand that people who are making the most money have gonads of steel to stay in for the ride, most smart investors would have taken profit when the stock doubled, much less wait til it had gone up 10x…. So anyway congratulations… but if you have convinced yourself this is not a bubble then just be ready to lose much of what you have gained…. That’s all I was saying

That's not USB ports.

If your Lord Elon is such a genius how come he didn't bulk order enough USB ports months in advance like just about every tech company in the world?

Shipping cars without ports is just low quality.

Just like his character. No class.

He's just taking advantage of his status. He can tweet about a simple product like this that people will scoop up instantly hoping it becomes collectible. If this went up quietly on the Tesla site it probably sells a couple hundred over days or weeks. Tweeting about it made it likely sell thousands in a few hours.

Probably has a better chance of actually shipping than the Cybertruck ever does. Probably.....
I believe this is about something entirely different. The fact that it is in the shape of their weird truck may be related to Apple entering their EV Automotive space. He knows what that would mean if they are successful, far less attention for him.

I'm not a truck person but damn Rivian got me thinking about one....IDK how people still want a Cybertruck after that presentation.

In terms of EVs, where battery costs and drive trains make up the majority of your cost, yes, they have far better scale than the competition. 4680 batteries will put them even further in the lead.

Machines can be retrofitted and upgraded to come extremely close to the capabilities and efficiency of a new machine. The cost savings by waiting to buy a new machine doesn't come close to the cost-savings born out of the scale that the leader has. Otherwise, you would see new manufacturers replacing market leaders every single year. Clearly, that isn't happening.
