Now Elon haters should say thank you for helping creators earn more money.
What kind of mental gymnastics are they going to pull now to justify their hate?
Do they hate on Apple for not allowing sideloading or hate the billionaire space man? Decisions decisions...🤣
Apple’s fees are well known. They created a platform and expect to make money on that creation using the agency model of distribution. In other words, if you want to have a bookstore that has access to Apple’s platform, then you pay that fee to be there. You are paying for the reach to customers that Apple has created. If you do not think that is of value, you are free to create your own platform and setup your own model on that platform. Musk could always start up his own smart phone company, create an App Store, and offer a better incentive to those who would market that product on that App Store.
Now, mental gymnastics?? Not needed at all. I mean, I am sick of Musk asking for a gross margin on his cars. If he would just get rid of that profit margin, the Tesla tax, more people could afford to buy a Tesla. You see, that’s what you are saying. Every company is in business to make money.
And Musk, the same guy who presents full self driving is around the corner, who has told customers that he’d be surprised if it didn’t release this year, or next year, and has been saying that for eight years now, and charges $15,000 for a product that is still at best at level two. What is the difference between what Musk is currently doing and what Elizabeth Holmes was doing? Zero difference, except she is going to prison for fraud and Musk is still committing that fraud.
If Musk (“I don’t care about the economics at all”) wants to be on the App Store, he can pay the same portion as made clear since the beginning. If he doesn’t like that rule, he’s free to move to Texas…Er a, make his own platform.
And you happen to be talking to someone who believes Apple is one of the most pig-headed companies on the planet, so don’t get me started on the many reasons to hate on Apple. But this is THEIR platform. They created it and you are free to create your own, just like Steam did when they didn’t want to pay Xbox fees. Just like Amazon did when it made the Amazon store instead of using the Google Store on the Fire devices. You are free to make your own platform.
If you want to buy an Adobe app, you can’t. You can only subscribe. If you don’t wish to subscribe, you can leave. It’s their platform. They can do as they wish. You are free to look elsewhere. Oh my God, there is an Adobe tax to use Photoshop. Yes, it’s called business. Should I sell you a slice of pizza I make at cost??? Oh my God, Sasha’s pizza tax… How dare I charge a fee?
