I like the design. I originally thought I was going to hate it, but I feel it makes it an iPhone. Sounds crazy, I know. But, using it on a daily basis, I find I kind of enjoy having the notch there.

I can't f***** stand it. It's hideous and it's the reason I'm switching to Samsung after 8 years of being a loyal iPhone customer. I don't want a notch eating into whatever I'm watching or doing, and I don't want to try and hide it. Honestly I'm fed up, calling the iPhone 8 "a brand new design" and even calling it the iPhone 8 is laughable, and the iPhone X which I had high hopes for has that stupid notch but MOST IMPORTANTLY it's the same width as an iPhone 7/8 so when you're watching videos they'd look the same as on 4.7 inch iPhones unless you zoom in, in which case you don't only lose the top and bottom off of what you're watching, but you also have that NOTCH eating into it from the side... I know this is not an issue to a lot of people but it's completely unacceptable to me. It's such a missed opportunity in my opinion. If it was a properly bigger display like say the 5.5" 7/8 plus display but without the bezels (or with minimal bezels), that would've been the most perfect portable device design. Instead we get this tall notchy thing... And why the hell didn't they at least have black bezels on either side of safari when browsing the web instead bright white empty space?
iPhone 7 in signature

Did you actually buy the iPhone X?

I hated the notch up until I actually saw one in person and tried it out for a few minutes. I ended up not actually caring about the notch. Now that I own one, I couldn’t care less about the notch. It’s a great phone, my only complaints now are with iOS 11.

Overblown nonsense. If it REALLY bothers you that much, it’s a sure sign you have way too much time on your hands and need to up your meds.

I would still hazard a guess that all those saying they have no issue with the notch, would still choose an iPhone X without it, if it had the same features.
No, actually. It seriously is a non-issue. In fact, it’s nice having space for the clock, etc. so there’s more room for the apps.

Doesn't bother me at all..If you change your background to black you can't see it when looking for apps. Even then it's not an issue compared to my 7. So far the screen size alone is just fantastic. Still getting used to Face ID and the new gesturing, but overall never think about the notch.

I’m going to add my thoughts.

I was a huge notch denier. My reddit history proves that. However after having an opportunity to get the X for cheaper than I thought I would have to pay with a carrier BOGO deal (wife got 8 Plus) I ended up with a X.

My thoughts now are the physical aspect of the notch isn’t as horrible as I thought it would be but I still think the UI and layout needs tweaked.

On a technical level it is cool they created an edge to edge display on on a light colored screen it looks amazing and big.

My frustrating comes from the fact there is tons of wasted pixels at the top and bottom of the screen that end up cropping what you COULD get out of the display.

Like why not put the “predicted” text in that empty space in the bottom of the keyboard and give me the “predictive” line back.

I played with an X at the Apple store. The notch didn’t really bother me (didn’t play any games though). However the screen is really small. Smaller than I thought it would be. I love my Plus display size. Maybe if they come out with a notch Plus model I’d be more interested.

If you like The Notch™ then you'll love the Fergus Hall Tarot deck...

Is that card from the Tarot Deck used in the James Bond film ‘Live and let Die’ ?
You've got me thinking of the notch as a gun sight now. :)

I went from an iPhone 6 Plus to an iPhone X.
I don't really noticed the screen size difference but I do notice that the phone sits more comfortable in my hand.
It's a more "natural" size I find and much less bulky.
I'm surprised that so many want a Plus X.

I’m not bothered by the notch. I seem to do well adapting to notch. I just need a plus size.
The notch doesn't bother me at all, however the size is to some extent. I wish the phone was at least a small as the iPhone 6, or better yet a bit smaller. The weight is an issue too. It's substantially heaver than my 6 an the extra size is kind of an issue in your front pants pocket. Other than wishing it was smaller and thinner, I really like it so far.

Storm in a teacup - if you ask me.

D'you suppose, that when some clever chap invented the clipboard 100 years ago, everyone wailed, "Oh noes! My content is minimally obscured"? Followed by copious, angry, Letters to the Editor of their local newspaper?

Or did they just think how useful it was?

It's a non-issue, and it solves a huge problem I had with every iPhone I've owned previously that supported tethering--that hideous blue bar that goes across the top of the status bar. With the X, the time is outlined in blue. Visually, it's much less intrusive. It's a similar story when using the phone while CarPlay is active--it's outlined in green.

"hate for the notch has died down as people have become used to Apple's design choice" - no, I still hate it. More than ever, actually.

The notch is a non-issue if you actually own the phone and apparently a huge issue for those who don’t or the media that needs to generate clicks.

"a huge issue for those who don’t" - that is because those that hate it (like me) refuse to buy the phone.

For me, the most controversial design decision is the removal of Touch ID.

We see how Face ID is problematic in many cases. Touch ID has none of those issues. I want an iPhone X with both Face ID and Touch ID.
Touch ID doesn't work too well outside in the winter when you have gloves on, face ID will. I find that sometimes if my hands are a little wet, touch ID doesn't work.
So far with the X, the face ID has been pretty much instantaneous for me.

Not gonna lie, only people I hear complaining about it are the pees without it. I love the notch to be honest, and I don't want another phone without it.

The notch is awful. Jony and whole design team should be fired. I could never do better than them, but it is awful, I'm sorry. Zipping up flame suit...Yes I've used an X and returned it due to yellow-ish screen, even with TT off.

That said, I am re-buying the X. There is nothing else on the market that is better. Tried the LG V30 again (two of them) and I can't even use my business app, RingCentral, because the app ignores the proximity sensor and the screen times out after 30 seconds. Screen is merely adequate...and yet the phone costs more than an 8+, ffs. Samsung, awful curved screens. Note is too large. Pixel 2 phones- would be perfect but both sizes are plagued with issues. I'm on Verizon and would LOVE to get the Essential Phone, Mate 10, or One Plus 5T. None work with VZW except for Essential, but VZW gimps WiFi calling which I need. I won't pick a phone over network. So, everything else that is out on Android that is available to me is utter trash.

Not getting the iPhone 8 since I have a 7. The 8+ is incredible but just too large. So that leaves me with the X. This has been my tech dilemma for the past few weeks...1st world problems. I will tolerate the notch but will never embrace it.

I actually created a notch on my iPhone 6s with tape so people think I’ve got loads of £ .

And you still have the headphone jack. Win/win.

First, they remove the headphone jack, then they remove the Touch ID sensor, then they give us THE NOTCH - Apple has been making some questionable design decisions recently.

"Touch ID doesn't work too well outside in the winter when you have gloves on" - there are places in the world where people wear sunglasses nearly all year around, so they may have the opposite problem with Face ID. Apple should have included both.

My only issue with the notch is when I read I tend to read the top line or two and continue to scroll. Using the top edge as my point of reference.

On a webpage this is not an issue because the title bar cuts off text. However in Reader mode, Safari doesn’t behave like this and the first and last words go into the notch. Even that would be ok if they faded as they did so but otherwise it makes it difficult to use reader mode if you read near the top of the screen.

The 'notch' is so overblown it's ridiculous. Imagine if the notch went all the way across the top, it would be a bezel. Think of the notch like a full bezel with more room. Jeez, this is the dumbest discussion so far about any iphone.
