i don't mind it but it's hard to believe anyone denying the phone would look better without it

if you have an X, turn it upside-down in portrait.. it will give a real good idea of how the phone would look irl without the notch.

(quoting you macsrcool as a launching point.. comment aimed at everyone)

The 'notch' is so overblown it's ridiculous. Imagine if the notch went all the way across the top, it would be a bezel. Think of the notch like a full bezel with more room. Jeez, this is the dumbest discussion so far about any iphone.
What? Imagine it like a full one with more room. Eh??? Imagine your new 15" wheels as 19" ones but with more tyre, cos that looks the same.

You either like it or you don't. (I do weirdly enough).

It also quickly tells me where the top of the screen is. No issue
i mean if there was no notch, im sure apple would have made it so holding the phone either way (vertically of course) would have been the "right" way. im sure this is coming in the near future if they ever do get rid of that notch.

It's been blown out of proportion by the press and haters. I think it's a great design because for me the notch doesn't exist but it's the "ears" that move the status bar out of the main display.

I played with the phone in the store and found the notch to be a non-issue.

What threw me off though was the placement of the clock. It seemed unaligned vertically, or perhaps like it was crammed into the corner. Not a deal-breaker necessarily.

What stops me from considering the phone though is that unlike many posters, I find it too big. To clarify, in-hand, it is great for handling, great for reading, even if it really is a two-handed device. The issue for me is I already leave my iphone 7 at home because it is too big and bulky to bother carrying with me so I know this thing would be a couch browser for the most part, at which point the price makes it an expensive optional accessory.

Note: my most critical gear to carry with me is training gear - Garmin Fenix 3, Lumo Run, etc (and even at that, I don't use all the sensors at the same time).

I’ve had my X for 3 days and what notch at the top. This fake news about the notch sucks and it’s driven by the media.
Apple said the X is the best iPhone they have ever built and I have to agree. I love the way I swipe apps open and closed. The size of the X is perfect after my 6s plus.

The notch doesn't bother me at all. I absolutely CAN'T STAND the home screen/navigation bar at the bottom of the screen though! It is so much more intrusive/eye sore than the notch at the top.

I don’t have a X and I don’t have a problem with the notch. I have a problem with the smaller usable screen compared to the Plus models, not withstanding the “5.8’ inch” measurement.

Screens have had 90 degree angles forever for a reason - because they look and work best that way.

Not to mention.... the content that is created to be presented on that screen was created to be seen without a notch covering part it it up.

I noticed dirt on my screen even if it’s on the side and I wipe it away. Can’t do that with the notch.

This is what a true 5.8” screen looks like with an extension. The “ears” around the X notch are not extensions meaning they do not extend past the 5.8” screen.

Not sure if this has been said, but the only problem I have with the notch is 1) I want to see battery percentage and 2) I want to see when my Air Pods are connected and not just as soon as they connect and go away. I would like to see this without opening command center. That is my only gripe with the notch.

We see how Face ID is problematic in many cases. Touch ID has none of those issues. I want an iPhone X with both Face ID and Touch ID.

Face ID have been spot on for me, dare I say better then Touch ID. And no, I don't give a rats ass for attention seeking experiment groups who claim to have fooled Face ID. It was obvious someone would come up with such claim, just a matter of time. They did the same with Touch ID.
Don't get me wrong, I love Touch ID but it too have lots of issues on different scenarios. Neither is perfect. I personally have found Face ID much more convenient. I just forget it is there, while with the Touch ID every time I was using the phone I had to make sure my fingers were not wet, remove gloves it I had any, wash my hands on many cases etc. I honestly have yet to find any issue with Face ID. It just works spot to the point I even forget it is there.

I actually created a notch on my iPhone 6s with tape so people think I’ve got loads of £ .

You are trying to portray people who buy expensive iPhones as somehow they want to show off. Nice try. I buy Apple products because they work straight out of the box most of the times with almost zero issues on my experience. And I have tried lots of other Android phones, tablets and computers, wish I could say the same. For me iPhone X is worth every penny and would give a rats ass what you or other people think of my wallet.

All this teeth-gnashing and hand-wringing over the notch is absurd. After less than a week with the iPhone X I barely even notice it.

Give me the notch over a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone any day of the week.

Man that is horrendous. Whoever did that render, I am glad it doesn't work for Apple.

For me Apple had no choice to have the ‘notch’ due to current hardware limitations.

I’m sure Jonny and his team would have preferred it to be integrated in the bezel and just have one uninterrupted screen on a design point of view.

Still amazing engineering and I’m confident the notch will be integrated over time.

For those that actually have one and can’t stand it just return the phone I’m sure some one else would be happy to have it.

The notch sucks. At the very least the could have made the wings (let and right of notch) black with white lettering for Time, battery life, etc. would give the appearance of clean symmetry.

And the screen size is way too small. Less actual usable space than a 6 or 7 or 8. Unacceptable.

its an established fact 26% if the population are ironic complainers, No headphone jack, it's too thin I'l going to bend it when I sit on it, if i drop it it;s going to crack the screen, the battery to too weak .....
I don't even notice the notch...

I can't f***** stand it. It's hideous and it's the reason I'm switching to Samsung after 8 years of being a loyal iPhone customer. I don't want a notch eating into whatever I'm watching or doing, and I don't want to try and hide it. Honestly I'm fed up, calling the iPhone 8 "a brand new design" and even calling it the iPhone 8 is laughable, and the iPhone X which I had high hopes for has that stupid notch but MOST IMPORTANTLY it's the same width as an iPhone 7/8 so when you're watching videos they'd look the same as on 4.7 inch iPhones unless you zoom in, in which case you don't only lose the top and bottom off of what you're watching, but you also have that NOTCH eating into it from the side... I know this is not an issue to a lot of people but it's completely unacceptable to me. It's such a missed opportunity in my opinion. If it was a properly bigger display like say the 5.5" 7/8 plus display but without the bezels (or with minimal bezels), that would've been the most perfect portable device design. Instead we get this tall notchy thing... And why the hell didn't they at least have black bezels on either side of safari when browsing the web instead bright white empty space?
It was nice knowing you. Leave all your App Store and iTunes purchases at the door.
[doublepost=1510731703][/doublepost]This is the same argument people made for the headphone jack. People are open minded until they see something they don’t like (don’t politicize this).
