Notch is awful and for the very first time In 10 years I haven’t bought a new iPhone.

Steve Jobs would never have approved those aesthetics or most of the buggy software that Apple now litter us with.

Shameful ...

The most beautiful thing about iPhone X is Apple Notch™

The reason the notch works so well is that it’s part of the design, just like the rounded corners on the screen. Plus, the software does a great job making it a part of the status bar area.

If those things were missing, than I’d agree it’d be an eyesore. I find the notch quite charming instead.

Wasn't an issue for me. Then I didn't buy one.

The notch is naff, FaceID seems at best a bit of an inconvenience in some situations. Its really the notch that kills this phone, though an absolutely baffling design choice.

I've forgotten what else it does.. oh sorry portrait selfies and animated Unicorns. Don't feel like I'm missing much tbh.

yes, not a big deal and not a deal breaker.

but if given the choice of notch or no notch, id choose no notch.

The notch is a non-issue if you actually own the phone and apparently a huge issue for those who don’t or the media that needs to generate clicks.

Completely agree. With the right wallpaper you never see it. The dynamic ones in iOS 11 work perfectly. Many apps are also already designed for it. In daily use over the last week, i have not been bothered by it at all and rarely notice it.

I don't like the notch, I wish it wasn't there. However, Face ID is SO AMAZING that I don't really care about the notch. Plus, the notch is not really that noticeable after a day or two.

The "notch," or sensor housing on the iPhone X is the single most polarizing design decision Apple made when creating its new flagship smartphone. Some people hate the way the notch eats into the display, while others appreciate that extra bit of visible space.

Love it or hate it, the notch is here to stay until Apple finds a better way to integrate the TrueDepth camera system into its iPhone lineup. Luckily, while the notch can be disturbing at first, most people find it's easy to become accustomed to. In the video below, we explore the notch, how it affects day to day iPhone X usage, how apps are compensating, and some ways to hide it.

Prior to the iPhone X's launch, the notch sparked a lot of discussion, much of it negative, but hate for the notch has died down as people have become used to Apple's design choice.

Apple's official policy is that developers and users should embrace the notch, and as apps have implemented designs that work around it, it's blended into the background and become less noticeable in day to day use.

There are still apps that have yet to adapt to the notch, but as optimizations continue, it'll disappear even further. Here at MacRumors, we've found that the notch isn't really bothersome at all.

One exception might be landscape mode, as it's more noticeable in that orientation when doing things like browsing Safari, watching YouTube videos, and playing games. Safari browsing is getting better, though, with a new Webkit API in iOS 11.2 that allows developers to design around the notch for a better full screen experience, and in the YouTube app, if you double tap on a video, it expands to a full screen mode that's easier to watch.

For those who absolutely hate the notch, there are a couple of new apps like Notcho, designed to edit wallpapers to add a black bar to the top, effectively hiding it on the Home and Lock screen. Notcho doesn't work within apps, though, and in our opinion, hiding the notch looks worse than accepting it.

[doublepost=1510709282][/doublepost]I just don’t care, a NON-ISSUE

For me the notch is awesome in portrait. I get space back for content. Landscape something has to be done about landscape experience for video. Look I want to not have the notch cut me off and have my video slide to fill the bottom blank space. That is all they need to do to fix the notch issue for me. Let me expand video to exclude the notch and pull in the bottom screen.

Also the keyboard is to tall. It needs to drop a solid 20 points.

I actually think the notch is all-right. To me its more like a design feature of the X. It adds character to the future of the iPhone. Before the X, we had the home button as the character. People see the home button at the bottom center of the iPhone and they know thats the iPhone, now I think people will recognize the iPhone X by the notch.

Yes and it gives me the Face ID that I actually find I prefer over the old touch of the home button. And with this ID the swipe up of the line on bottom almost becomes for me like the clicking behavior I used to do with the home button.

Having zero issues with The Notch or using Face ID here on my X. I forget to think about either one. What am I doing wrong?

Same here, I do not understand the issues some are having with it. The more I use it the more I like it. -- issues for me are more just learning to use it and now that it is becoming natural to use I have no issues that impede my enjoyment of the X

1) Notch = Non Issue
2) I think if the tech media hadn’t talked about it so much nobody would care
3) I never want to hear the word “notch” again

Notch is fine, but that heaving camera bulge is another matter.

With a case on my previous phones and the X the camera bulge is a non issue also but then I always wanted cases on my iPhones so they always protrude beyond the bulge and thus its no problem

As I posted in another thread... unbothered by the notch, unbothered by the new gestures, and actually liking my new iPhone X experience. I think Face ID is so much more of a seamless experience, and looking forward to future developments. Now if they could just get the new Ear Pod case out and the Power Pad so I don't have to take 4 chargers everywhere.
