The fact that they can offer such a good staff discount highlights how much the average consumer is being shafted. If they can afford a 25% discount, then you have to query the cost price. This isn't a jab at their employees as I am sure they are all nice enough rather the bullying tactics of Apple and they way that one is forced to buy their hardware at a premium just to be able to use the OS. Before any one says that its a perk of working for Apple, it isn't meant to cause offense rather highlight that they could reduce their products by 10% and still make a sufficient gain.
This whole paragraph proves you know nothing about economics. More goes into a computer than just the parts...there's labor for making it, shipping the parts, heating the buildings, building the buildings, health benefits for the employees, salaries, R & D, etc. All of these things are significant costs with no immediate profit.
Do you know how much a $15 CD costs to produce? Do the math...how much is one jewel case plus one blank CD plus one piece of glossy paper? $1? We're getting robbed!
An acquaintance of mine works in the book business. A $22 book "costs" them $3 from the publisher. The rest goes into what happened before the book was published, editors, layout, graphics, publicity. And this is a non-profit book company!
If you think you're getting robbed, get the parts yourself and build a computer yourself. Or go buy a Dell.
