That said, I certainly think the 16gb model would be just fine for a segment of users.

For work issued phones and certain consumers that just don't care. My mother for example, or even some peers I've talked to that don't even know how much space they had. They use their phone to call, text, quick web searches and smaller apps like Instagram/Facebook. 16GB is plenty. My mother has 9 GB left.

I'm not justifying the 16GB. It's obviously a move to push users into a more expensive model, however, it isn't as detrimental as some here think.

no one has a 4k TV. Who cares.

I agree. Very few people have 4K tv and those that do, have very little content if any to support it. Not to mention that every provider in the US is capping it's customers bandwidth even though they pay out the ass for internet. It's a no win situation.

1 - Get the bandwidth crap fixed first.
2 - Get 4K content widely available on many different avenues
3 - Make 4K tv's as cheap as 1080p sets
4 - Then tell me that your device supports 4K

As of right now - the content is NOT there. There is no justification for 4K tv's right now. None. 1080p just now has saturated the market and that took 8 years.

And oh the joy, whilst the new Apple TV apparently doesn't support HEVC (because apparently the thought that it's only useful for 4K, which the Apple TV doesn't have of course) Amazon is one upping Apple with the new Fire TV.
Don't have a 4k TV so it's all meaningless to me; good for Amazon I guess though. Apple TVs all around in my house.

The first 4K device I got was a receiver. Something I had to get do to a remodel. (old one was too big for the new space)

That's it. all the 4K kit I have. Now I have video in 4K form my phone. Wait, I am still stuck, nothing to display it on.

I need a TV, and then I need a PC or some other 4K play back device.

When we went to HDTV, I had a computer with HD first. Then TV, then DirecTV set top bot, then receiver. It took a while to get all the components. 4K is just not ready.

Not one of your points is valid. 4K sets are the high end standard now and priced nearly the same as 1080p sets a few years ago. There is quite a lot of content in 4K now. Movies, Home videos, YouTube, Netflix, nhl streaming, Amazon, etc.

And you do get that the whole point of this thread is to support a 4K (and 1080p) compression that will use far less bandwidth?

Apple is dragging here. Don't make excuses.

I can't imagine having only 16gb. The last time was with the iPhone 3G, as the 3GS offered 32GB.

I've always gone with the maximum amount of storage available. The wait for 128gb was dreadful, as my music library alone was over 64gb when those models were released.

I'm comfortable at 128 but but hope for 256 within the next couple of years.

But but but your music should be on cloud storage or use Apple Music. 16gb is enough because everything should be in the cloud. No one has their music and movies locally stored anymore. 256gb is way too much man. Everything should be in the cloud. (Sarcasm)

Joking aside Apple really is ripping people off. Making 32gb the base storage will cost them nothing. But it's all about forcing folks to buy the mid range iPhones so they can make more money. Even the 64gb is a laughable mid range storage.

Greedy mofos.

64GB is laughable? how?

no other phones have more than this..how many android phones offer more? not many

hell samsung got rid of SD cards yet still didn't give people 128GB

Err...okay. I buy 16GB every single time I get a new phone. Why? Not because I don't understand the features, that's for sure. 16GB has always been plenty of storage for me. I download maybe five apps, not interested in 4k video, my music and photos are all in the cloud. I don't see what the big deal is.

Aye. When I upgraded to the iPhone 5 I actually went for the 32GB model and it really was a waste of money (ended up having loads still left over). With the iPhone 6 I went for 16GB and I struggled to fill that too, probably because I have a tendency to keep my iPhone tidy and clutter free. I think I have around 7-8GB left with all my daily apps on there.

All my music and photos (which I rarely take on the phone now as I have a DSLR) are stored in the cloud (£0.79/month for 50GB is plenty for me) and I have an unlimited data plan, so there is never a problem in accessing it. So as long as the 4K video can be stored in iCloud whats the big problem? :D

Uh, I do! No media to use on it so this interests me. All tv will be 4K one day, it is just the next thing coming before 8K!:p

Sharp released their first 8K-TV for consumers the other day :) Finally I can watch 4 of those 4K promo videos at once in PIP.. Or something.. :)

I really can't get that people are missing the point of recording in 4K. How many people look at videos that they recorded years ago and wish the recording was in a higher resolution? This is what 4K recording is for just the same as 8k recording when it arrives next year or the year after.
