This thread is supposed to be more about lack of H.265, also, that codec makes a lot of sense for 1080p, too.
Some of the replies in here are hilarious indeed and fail to attempt to understand the issue at hand or blindly defend decisions that are anti-customer.
I'm sure many don't need the camera at all, let's make a VGA back camera the default and offer an upgrade to the actual camera for just 100 bucks.
Make everything optional, yes, that will help.
However, that's not even the point of this thread.
Spoiler: It's in the thread title.
Spoiler 2, because obviously except for 2 people nobody read that: H.265. Apple doesn't offer it. Except on the Mac.
H.265 reduces a video's filesize DRASTICALLY, enabling more people to stream 4K (*cough* Apple TV *cough*), the offerings is something Apple can fix themselves. They do offer a store to rent and buy movies and shows from. Also, there's other video sources, too.
It's a catch 22 game, someone has to make the first step and then a second step has to follow.
4K is a common option in stores now, content has to catch up, Apple can fix it, they even do to some extend by offering 4K recording, which is nice, but only goes so far.
They decided to continue offering a 16GB device, which would be less of a problem (still pretty ridiculous, but not the point of this thread) if they went with a better compressing video codec.
However, there is strong reason to believe that they did NOT include the codec, because, well, they want to up sell you.
So either they didn't think this through (unlikely), don't care about EVERY customer using their devices features as they please (unlikely) or simply try to give at least several people a reason to go with the 64GB phone, or in other cases the 128GB phone.
