you are mixing OS and Search engines now...
No the US government has tried your approach and google get around it by saying they give android away for free to everyone
And because the government can’t get them on that they are now getting them on search that’s why
Your argument about choice is nonsense because even the us government or any government can get them on that.

I see epic is back on the USA iOS App Store
Now

QR code is just an easy shortcut to saving you searching and typing.

you must be a dream employee... maybe check your Conditions of Employment document you signed.
or do you treat that like Epic treat the Apple Dev signup? :)
Or it’s called following orders so then my place of employment doesn’t make a difficult for me in other ways

Hence why it’s a requirement to have it
And they wouldn’t be able to do this if the majority of people didn’t have a smartphone

and that slab of glass in your pocket contains a browser so you can sign in and do whatever you need just like a computer does... :)
how do you sign into something that you need to scan a QR code to then allow you access to & then you scan the 2nd QR code
How can I possibly do that from a computer at home?

actually it's how you get phished or data harvested but not a virus or malware.

sorry but if you needed that explained... puts the rest of the arguments in context...

if you dont want to tell us the business, just tell us the app name.

I can't find anything about "hidden apps on appstore".
there's plenty about hiding purchased apps.
but an app for business purposes is downloadable by anyone and needs a sign in to use it.
that's my experience from CRM apps and rosters for staff. it tailors content based on ID and security settings to deliver screen content for you. don't have a log in? you see nothing but a log in screen.

it would be like downloading the Sony MusicCentre app.
anyone can download it but unless you have hardware the app recognises and interacts with then it is a useless app to you.
You do understand that just because you have not experienced it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist

For example if I type in the name of this app
It won’t show up however after the company has given me the way to access it
Now takes to it’s location in the app store to download it and put it in on my device

However if I randomly just search for it on the App Store it’s not there
Multiple companies do this

name the app please so we can try that...

bottom line is this discussion is now so far off the original topic. deliberately it seems... :)

It’s only far off the topic because
It’s not as easy just to not allow epic not back on the iOS App Store
There are different reasons why apple will continue to get regulated & challenged on things.
And it’s not as easy as saying it’s apple’s rules so what is the issue or android exists why is this happening

Inferno
That is one app that a company uses
well there's quite a few hits when you search the AppStore for inferno... more info?

web site?

EDIT:
further searching on this topic yielded:

App Store apps can be published as "unlisted," meaning they are not publicly visible in the App Store's search results, categories, or charts. These apps are only accessible via a direct link. This allows for distribution without widespread public discoverability.

Explanation:
  • Unlisted Apps:
These apps are still published through the App Store, but they are not listed in any of the App Store's public listings.
  • Direct Link Access:
Users can only download these apps by accessing a direct link, which is not publicly shared.
  • Not Private:
While not publicly listed, unlisted apps are not considered private in the sense that they are not restricted to a specific group of users, says Apple Support.
  • Apple Business Manager:
Apple Business Manager allows organizations to purchase and distribute public and private apps, including custom apps.
  • Enterprise Program:
The Apple Developer Enterprise Program enables large organizations to develop and deploy proprietary internal apps for their employees.

  • TestFlight:
Unlisted apps are not a replacement for TestFlight, which is designed for beta testing.

so it's possible to only allow access via (QR) link but why would you if others can just need a login account/password to use? if it's available for Android and iOS whats the issue? you've pointed out there's 5 billion phones... and if you didnt have one there must be a corporate one or a workmates one. hardly the biggest tech issue around. or a desktop...

none of which has a single thing to do with Epic... :)

well a lot of discussion has been off topic and not even slightly tangential to the topic...

If you don’t think any of it is relevant
Then why did apple put epic back on the
USA iOS app store
When nobody told them to?

It’s a tech app based on helping a company diagnose your settings
It runs through a series of checks for the phone's hardware and software, and it handily knows to shut down if the device reaches critical temperature

do i care? will it last there?

what i do care about is a developer signed up knowing the rules and actively broke them to make a point.
bad faith dev... fullstop.

Apple has every right to not deal with them.
just like most businesses can not allow problem customers into the premises.

Apple doesnt need Epic's business.

so it's hardly the sort of thing most people would ever need to use...

and oddly seems nothing like the sort of use case you described.
why would a regular business have a need for their employees to use this app?

No I gave you that as an example
Of a company that has an app hidden on the iOS App Store
And there is more like it
Not just phone apps.

Because it is not just a device
so that why when companies like epic or Spotify challenge apple on certain things
Then in some instances they are winning because these things are getting taken into account that’s why.

The judge absolutely told them to.
Apple must work out its latest issues with Epic Games, or head back to court to prove it has a legal basis for delaying the restoration of the popular Fortnite game to its iOS App Store, a judge ordered on Monday.

What did I say no good would come of it
If apple didn’t put epic back on the USA iOS App Store sooner or later.

Because of what was going to come next if they didn’t

Yep.

I thought the judge’s order that Apple was free to kick Epic off would be enough, but didn’t think through the fact that Apple can’t kick off Epic Sweden because the EU won’t let them.

Pretty good tag team between the judge and the EU. We’ll see if anything comes of the appeal.

well Epic is just a bit of software that runs on many devices.

not having it in the Apple AppStore hasnt hurt Apple sales or profits: they never were paid anything by Epic.

Epic are just a bad company run by a whinger. :)

Why do you think the judge used the term
Unless you have a legal reason to not allow them on
Because if they didn’t let them on then what was coming next was along the lines of this apple are deliberately not allowing epic on the USA iOS App Store to send a message that anyone dare challenge US knows the consequences of that.
And that is why epic are back on

He might be a whinger however at the end of the day the guy is just trying to get better terms for his business and there is nothing wrong with that unless you think that individuals shouldn’t try get better terms

they get the terms they sign up for, otherwise they broke the agreement.

not sure you would like it if everyone just did whatever they wanted even if you signed an agreement...
how about a Bank just takes back your house?
or you bank takes all your savings?

or is it just OK because it's Apple and you dont like them? :)

They where. But as you have ignored multiple times, it’s Apple who put themselves in a legal bind because of statements they did in court effectively nullifying their right to kick them out.

Tim Cook said in court they would allow Fortnite back on the AppStore if it followed the rules.
