It would be more like McDonalds renting space to Burger King... Apple is not forcing developers to use the Apple ecosystem, they know the rules and potential price hikes going into it. Game consoles have been this way for decades, Nintendo fighting the hardest since the NES. He really needs to get over it.

Dear devs, if you feel you have it so bad with Apple then:
  • Stop writing apps for iOS, it will hurt for a little while but...
  • If enough of devs stop then iOS customers will start to complain or leave Apple.
  • If enough people complain or leave Apple they will, very quickly, change their ways.
Really simple concept for those with the courage to do so. This is the best way to bring about change, having legislators make decisions for this industry won't end well.

only 30% lmao, if an app makes 1m apple takes 300k.
Movie theatres take more than 30% for the movies they play, even though they played absolutely no role in the making of the movies. Well week one the theatre might only take 10%, but after that they can take more than 30%. It's not like movie theatres are funding the development of movie camera standards or anything, they just play the movies.

I think Apple's 30% is totally fair, especially considering Apple will take 0% of purchases in apps that sell physical goods like food and clothing.

It's called inflation mr Sweeney Todd. Since 2007 99 cents is now worth more than $1.40. So with these new prices apps are actually cheaper now than they were in 2007 when the iPhone launched. The App Store actually launched 2008, so inflation since then means 99 cents is now worth $1.36. Raising the prices helps developers more than Apple, because developers get 70% cut of their app sales, Apple only gets 30. Of course if you can't or refuse to sell your app on the App Store then you get 0% and Apple gets 0%, so no one wins there.
Because of inflation $1.36 is now worth 99¢ but otherwise yes. Or 99¢ is now worth roughly 72¢.

It's the Putin price hike everyone knows that.
Also the “our governments made stupid policies making us dependent on Putin” hike. “our nation tried to replace an economy with a printing press during the pandemic” tax hike. So much blame to go around for such complicated outcomes.

and thats changing too, studios are working with streaming platforms directly now, bypassing threatres, amc was absolutely in the tank even before covid and wallstreetbets happened.

It just amazes me that Sweeney wants control on something so he can just make more money. Just stay out of it man

yeah sure, as if all the apps developers prior to the app store launch were making scraps
Most of them had no business.

Programs for mobile prior to the App Store were either through terrible carrier stores, or were licensed at high fees (and inevitably pirated) in kludgy ways.

As an American can I just say … holy crap how bad are things in Europe when the Euro is down relative to the dollar when our economy is looking pretty bad. Is it time for me to invest in the yuan?

First off, I never said that. So you totally misread it or didn't read it. You said $1 million made in the App Store would give Apple 300k, fact. I said that's better than the $0 they'd make without being in the App Store, also a fact. Neither statement had anything to do with money made in other outlets.

They are welcome to not use the App Store now, nobody is forcing them to. If they want to be in it though, 70% of money made in the App Store is a hell of a lot better than 0% IMO.

again, they weren't making 0 before, where do u even get that number. but ofcourse, nothing you or i say matters, apple is facing regulation challenge on this very issue so we'll see what happens.

Thinking that way about any monopoly is how dictatorships come to be. Yikes

They never lowered the prices when the euro was 1.6 dollars…….

Perhaps because the rate's never been that high? It hit 1.59 on July 11th, 2008...the day after the App Store opened.

Clearly Apple killed the Euro!

i read, you weren't concise, 0 percent what, total revenue annual? or just 0 percent from app store. app store or not, the end user wouldn't buy twice, so if they get from app store they wouldn't get it elsewhere. at the end, it doesn't matter, apple's 30% policy is getting challenged by govt's around the world. they already made concessions with apps with less than 1m in annual. at this point you're just pushing moral arguments that ends up no where 😂

All Sweeney has to do is to invent a games hardware platform, and then create an app store for it, and he can then decide how to price things.

As it is, he didn't invent the iPhone, didn't create the Apple App Store and I am quite content the way things are, thank you very much. Apple has made a lot of people very rich through the App Store, but some are just greedy.

Just took some number but the euro been much stronger than the dollar maybe 1.4 than but they never lowered
