1) This is a website designed for Apple enthusiasts so it isn't weird to find people here who are fans of Apple. it is weird however to find the opposite.

2) Developers are not being forced to be in the App Store, they are choosing to be there. 30% cut is the deal upfront, it isn't a hidden thing. If they don't like it, they don't join the store. Simple as that.
Doesn't Google Play also take a 30% cut?

Why do so many people here support these blanket taxes Apple / Google impose on the creative development work from developers for mobile customers,

This price increase has nothing to do with that. The 30% cut remains the same; the developer gets 83 cents instead of 69, and Apple gets 36 instead of 30.

And if the tenent paid in Euro's, but the lease was in dollars, then is the landlord supposed to take a 20% cut in their rent? No. This is a currency issue, and it happens with every business that works across multiple currencies.

This is an opportunistic antagonist looking to bash Apple.

While I may somehow agree official sideloading should still be a thing for people that would take liability to what they install, Tim Epic is still a big hypocrite. The percentage cut isn't just for operating costs. It's also the visibility you may get when you publish an app in the App Store (though, the 99$ developer account you pay for upfront is debatable). Heck, he even argued 8% should be enough for operation, yet his own store takes 12-13%! If he's this... benevolent or developer savior person that he tries to portray himself as, why does he not make his store take 8% only as he so suggested?

30% has been the standard for many years, yet it's only Apple that's getting the short end of the stick. Why now? Because they're making too much money out of it?

This just all sound like a ploy from the start to make his own store be more attractive, when the things he say/do and his store just does the opposite. He even pays developers to make a game exclusive to his own store (and that developers' own store if it exists), which Steam (their competitor) never did.

Tim finally spoke the real truth....
The Billion iOS users that Apple has built an enormous amount of trust. Remember, any company can create their own platform and attract their own customers and have them signup directly and offer a free app that accesses their platform. Think Netflix or even Spotify. If they need Apple to acquire customers or Apple’s API and platform, they should and will pay a commission.

It's called inflation mr Sweeney Todd. Since 2007 99 cents is now worth more than $1.40. So with these new prices apps are actually cheaper now than they were in 2007 when the iPhone launched. The App Store actually launched 2008, so inflation since then means 99 cents is now worth $1.36. Raising the prices helps developers more than Apple, because developers get 70% cut of their app sales, Apple only gets 30. Of course if you can't or refuse to sell your app on the App Store then you get 0% and Apple gets 0%, so no one wins there.
Actually, it's called the "Exchange rate" and since the US dollar is the defacto base currency and Apple is a US company, they use the dollar as the gauge to keep other prices consistent. Well mostly.

Australia is copping it in the neck, too, by the way. We pay what we call the "far, far away tax." But think about what would happen if Apple didn't do this (because years ago, they didn't do it so much). People in Australia could (and did) buy products from Apple at effectively lower prices in one country versus another. They could even perhaps circumvent paying appropriate taxes in a country for the item. Governments don't tend to like that.

So while it sucks, I understand it. Blame the global economy, Russia, China, Covid and value-added taxes. But it's a bit rich to lay it at Apple's feet.

And the developer makes 700k. What’s your point?
And, more to the point, the developer sets a price and (shocker) Apple marks it up to get a 30% cut. Just like any store does.

The developer gets whatever price they want for the app.

iPhones users represent one of the most valuable consumer segment and this guy wants to monetize them directly without paying any commission. That is all, everything else is just rationalizations and and PR.

This is such a stupid comment. The Euro is in a bad state right now so of course Apple is going to adjust prices to account for the current exchange rate.

lol Tim Epic! But also, funny to read about a capitalist ranting about another capitalist doing better than they are. You do you Tim. Thanks for the unreal engine, now move on.
