I don’t like the headline. More than implies that people are losing their jobs at Epic, and it’s Apple’s fault.

It's not just iOS but Android as well. Fortnite is not available on either since Epic Games was banned from both stores.
Android revenue wasn’t much, may be Epic should have gone after google, not apple. Epic CEO sounds like an activist, not a leader of the company.

Being banned from two app stores concurrently certainly made him not risk taking on anyone else. The fact that they used money to pursue litigation against Apple didn't make sense. "Pride goes before the fall."

This guy is terrible.
You could have been making money. MORE than enough to keep the 800 developers had you not spent a fortune fighting Apple for no good reason other than your ego. AND not making money on the AppStore.
Unreal. Pun intended.

I wonder how much money they have lost from not being on the iOS platform. For as much as Sweeney likes to say that Apple is charging 30% to swipe your credit card the truth of the matter is Apple was helping his company and he decided to bite the hand that feeds him.

Sweeney’s ego is now costing people their jobs all because of a publicity stunt and a play to run his own App Store on iOS.

Epic’s only valid argument was that apps should be able to provide links to signup and pay on the web

That's the point. There could be a myriad of reasons EPIC is laying off people (mismanagement, poor game design, game fatigue, etc), but the headline implies that somehow Apple is responsible for their woes.

It's Apple's fault that Epic Games broke their contract?

Nope. Epic was making 350 M a year from iOS devices. Now add the lost revenue because of law suit, they probably lost around $1B after they got cut off from App Store.
Yeah but that is still only 5% of their annual revenue. It is a large amount of money to you and me but not a large amount of money in terms of operating revenue for a company of that size. A 5% decrease in operating revenue does not cause a company to lay off 15% of their workforce, and if it does, then they have a really flawed business model because their profit margins have to be utter @#$$

Do the math, $1 B in lost revenue and 800 number of employees being laid off. It’s not 5% it was between 6-7% Per year. Any CEO cutting off a lucrative market is dumb. He is not a CEO, sounds like activists living in a bubble.

As for the fight against Apple, Sweeney claims that Epic Games is taking steps to cut down on legal expenses, but will continue on with its legal battles so the "metaverse can thrive and bring opportunity to Epic and all other developers."
In other words, we’re out of ideas to convince the judges why we’re right and Apple’s wrong.

Epic is going to lose this lawsuit in big way. And only way for their survival at that point would be to sell themselves to Apple.
