“I can’t defend my favouritest corporation’s terrible business practices so I’m just gonna go around parroting at people that they should buy something else instead of just accepting that no company is perfect like a healthy normally functioning adult”
No seriously, if you hate Apple then don’t do business with them. They’re not perfect, nobody ever said they were. I swear some people buy Apple just to complain like whiny brats about every little damn flaw.

Nobody is saying Apple is perfect, just that they have the right to make their devices the way they want. You're complaining that they don't instead make them the way *you* want.
No I’m stating that Epic and Apple are just as bad at business practices and if somehow both could lose this lawsuit I’d take that option lol

Pointing out flaws in your favourite company isn’t being a whiny brat. Sorry that you’re having difficulty coping with the fact that someone in the world out there disagrees with you on something

I mean Apple Music and Apple TV have apps on third party devices…. What point are you even trying to make 😂😅😂
Two points:

1. Apple TV is a subscription service available on multiple platforms, e.g. my Samsung TV store has Apple TV.
2. Other apps, such as Fortnight are (were) available on multiple platforms also.

To get to those apps on other platforms, the app publisher has to upload them.

What point are you even trying to make? (Putting three lol faces after the sentence doesn't diminish any points being made, it just looks silly)

Because it's a bad business practice to charge what you want for your own platform and lock down your devices a ton, even though every party involved is willing?

As a developer, I say Apple's ecosystem is a pain in the rear to develop for and isn't worth my time. I got a different job that's less of a pain and makes more money anyway. Apple's within their rights, so am I, so is Epic. If Apple wants a 99% cut, they lose more devs.

Difficulty coping huh? You’re right, how can I live with it?? 😫😭

Have you seen half, even a tenth of the comments on these forums? The amount of complaining probably outweighs the number of positive comments.

Finally a reply that isn’t just replying for the sake of it. I don’t care much for the 30% cut, it’s more that they can come up with arbitrary rules around what’s allowed and what isn’t, like they did with xCloud. This is why I said I hope they both lose somehow because they’re both guilty of super anti-consumer practices. I’ve hated Epic since far before Fortnite even came out

Cool, so can I play Halo on my Nintendo switch? Why not?

You are complaining of stuff that is already well known and has been for over a decade.

Is Apple Arcade on Xbox? No, WHY NOT?!?!?

Root access? Repair? 30%? Stop. This has never been a thing for iPhone so either deal with it or go buy an Android and stop posting.
I'm guessing Apple Arcade isn't on Xbox because the terms wouldn't be acceptable to Apple.

But on the other hand, Microsoft was willing to play by Apple's terms, and then Apple decided to change them once they realized their mistake.

Root access aside, there's no reason they shouldn't allow you the ability for users and developers to distribute apps outside of the App Store other than greed.

Apple has a monopoly on app distribution in the US, I hope they're forced to allow "side loading"... it's what we computer users call installing an application.

Blatantly trying to use Brexit to their advantage to circumvent anywhere else that had common sense. I'm glad we've done something sensible for once.

Are you a dev? I'm an ex-dev and frankly that 30% is worth it based on what Apple does for you. If one doesn't like the system, don't enroll in it. Let your wallet speak for itself. So I hope apple prevails.

What Epic did is basic theft of services and they deserve to be legally slapped around.

Yes I’m a dev and I don’t see how bragging about that makes any sense in this particular context. Apple doesn’t deserve a 30% cut of content that not only did they not make any part of, but the content itself isn’t even hosted on their servers. They’re getting a cut for absolutely no work and no effort. The contract needs to change to a more realistic model where Apple gets paid for actual work they did and not some “technicality” that they use to get even more money in its pockets.

just to be clear - i don’t want epic to win, I want apple to lose. This would set a great precedent for all other devs. Wrap your head around that or don’t, it’s not why I’m here anyway

but of course you can’t say these things about uncle apple around here. So I’m mostly here for the laughs

They absolutely deserve that cut. For the $99 enrollment fee, they are giving the dev access to 1 billion active devices. The only remuneration they are asking is an industry standard cut and for that they are providing a complete management platform.

And as discussed, nobody is forced to sign-up to be an Apple dev, it's completely optional. It's like suggesting Ferrari doesn't deserve $250K for it's cars.

You can criticize Apple all you want around here. Just be prepared for a rebuttal.

Worst car analogy of all time. You pay for high quality hardware you’re getting on the car. They spent money to fit this higher quality hardware.

apple spent nothing on the development of Fortnite and spent nothing hosting the content and spent nothing advertising it and spent nothing making the DLCs.

thank christ for the ex- part

I disagree. It's overpriced for what you get. See how easy it is to shoot down an opinion?

Apple spend money on the app store infrastructure, servers, electricity, people and for $99 gave Epic the ability to make $700M. What is the ROI on that $99? They gave Epic unfettered access to their 1B customer base. So yeah, they deserve the 30% fee. (I mean let Epic build their own platform with 1B customers)

Most people just think 30% is "bad" because they are not devs. Why they care about what other people get paid is beyond me. Just imagine the shocked pikachu face whwen they realize how much Target, Walmart etc. make off them.

So go sell your games elsewhere and retain 100% of the cut. Oh, wait, you don't have access to be in front of 100s of millions of users, do you?

Cost of doing business.

Apple is your favourite company? May I ask why? Is it just because out of all the bad options it’s the least bad? If so “least bad” is not the same as “favorite” as “favor” infers a certain level of approval. Do you approve of Apple?

You read that slightly wrong - they sure used to be but obviously not anymore.

as much as it doesn’t look it, I approve of like 80% of the stuff they do but naturally as someone who is super invested I am highly critical of less desirable things that I see. I do appreciate your respectful reply.
