Indeed, and this is one of the reasons I sold my Apple Watch. It replicates so much of the iPhone that I may as well just pull out the iPhone.
Funny, that is one reason I love it. I often will walk/hike, jog, run, bike or swim without my iPhone, wearing only my watch.
I don’t need Pinterest or messages on my wrist.…I do need to be able to read notifications though.
Sending and receiving messages and setting timers with Siri are among my most common uses.
I need on-board and offline topographic maps, multi-day battery life whilst using GPS, buttons - not touchscreen that allow usage with gloves or wet/ sweaty hands etc etc.
One case where I like using my watch instead of my iPhone when I have both is navigating while walking or riding, particularly in an unfamiliar city. Instead of pulling out my phone and looking lost, I get haptic feedback on my wrist telling me where to turn. As for needing buttons while wearing gloves, all I can say is that I grew up in a place with cold winters and I now live in Southern California to avoid gloves. :-D
Right tool for the job and all that ☺️
Very much. The Garmin products are great and serve a very different purpose. Ray Maker (from DCRainmaker.com) describes the Apple Watch as the watch for the other 23 hours a day (i.e. when not working out or doing specific sporting activities). I could eventually see an Apple Watch with much longer battery life (Apple Watch Sport Extreme), but I would be surprised to see one with many physical buttons. I would also be somewhat surprised if they ever adopted Ant+ despite the obvious benefits over the steaming pile of dreck that is Bluetooth Low Energy. I do wonder if we will see a set of thread connected sensors and an Apple Watch that included a Thread radio. :)
