It is lashing rain outside, and a bleak overcast day, the sort of light deprived day that positively screams "November, remember me? Well, it's me, and I'm back."

The substitute carer - who loves her coffee - arrived and I decided to make a French Press (pre-heated Le Creuset) full of freshly ground Ethiopian coffee, poured into pre-heated Le Creuset mugs.

This is a gorgeous mug of coffee - bright, clean and clear notes, smooth and sweet, - sublime on the palate.

And - a blessing and bonus - there will be enough in the pot for a second cup.....

There is a mug of coffee by my hand: The mug - volcanic burnt orange, is by Le Creuset.

The mug contains some piping hot coffee. That is: Coffee. Ethiopian. Hot.

The Ethiopian coffee is from the Yirgacheffe region in the highlands of Ethiopia.

It is divine (and yes, very much needed; this is because, for some strange inexplicable reason, I didn't get very much sleep last night, and am feeling very oddly out of sorts).

But yes, it would have been nice if the mug had magically materialised on my coaster. (Leather, US made, from the Saddleback company).

First coffee of the day at 10 PM... Very long day here. Also very tired. I took a Zyrtec this morning and I've been feeling sleepy all day. Must be a new reaction. :(

Would you want to switch weather? It was 32*C here today. I love a good rain.

32! Where is "here" may I ask? Here in Geneva (Switzerland) it's 6 and light rain. Time for my coffee.

West Coast US. Our state has yet to realize it's fall. Usually weather drops down 12*C this time of year and will drop somewhat lower during the middle of winter. It's not uncommon for some parts such as mine to reach 0-1*C at night during the winter. We've had several warm winters these last few years.

It's 1 AM/01:00 now and currently it's 19-20*c outside. It's only that warm in the middle of a summer heatwave. :(

Well, I'll trade you.

I cannot abide winter; it is not just the wind, the rain, the sleet, occasional snow, endless drizzle, damp, misery, cold, no, it is the damned darkness. I really feel the light deprivation in our corner of north west Europe.

Yes, we do get long days (and evenings) in summer, and I love those, but the short dark days of winter are something that I realise I find quite depressing.

That is one of the (many) reasons I love travelling abroad, working abroad and living abroad. Of the past decade, I would estimate that I have spent around half of it elsewhere, some of that in places far further south, places, where, granted, high summer was sometimes punishing, (which is why you took leave then) but spring, autumn and winter were wonderful.

Overcast but drying here.

But, yes, time for a coffee.

Hm.

And Some Individuals Doubt The Existence Of Global Warming, do they?

Still, it is only early November. Wait until winter gets its claws out properly, and you can expect to feel a few peripheral effects......such as slightly reduced temperatures.

Had to unwatch certain threads ... I'm "Trumped" out already and my Facebook is worse. Between gloating and handwringing ... plus the Apple is dooooomed threads on the Mac sections...

I'll stay here for a while, although my coffee intake is done for the day, I find reading about coffee a pleasant pastime. I also got some great ideas on the cheese thread. Also thinking of things like soup and hot chocolate on this cold November afternoon.

Well, if you want to share cheese recipes, I am, as they say, all ears.

Always looking for more cheese recipes.

As am I.

Always.

I recall the first time I ever saw (and as offered) a proper cheeseboard, as a teenager staying for more than a month with a wonderful French family and travelling between their two homes in Paris and Chartres. I was transported.

Mind you, (yanking myself back on topic), that was also the first time I encountered dripper method - very strong - black coffee, served with squares of dark chocolate. And that also transported me.

This morning has been a damp and cold one. Got up this morning and walked to my local newsagent for the papers (Times and Telegraph). Had my breakfast in the kitchen (porridge with some nuts and flaxseed) reading the Times and listening to Classic FM on the radio. My father is in the garage doing whatever it is he does with his cars and truck. After breakfast I then moved some furniture from one half of my lounge to the half that I've just had the carpet cleaned and then had a nice hot bath. Now sat down with my first coffee of the day. For the rest of the day I shall be mainly reading, papers and books and, of course, the TV. I love my Saturdays. It is by far my favourite day of the week. Hope you are all well and having a good day yourselves. Cheers.
