I mean, these colors were out of stock online forever. The distribution centers weren’t getting any new stock, so I’m pretty sure the factories just weren’t sending any over. Once COVID hit, all retail stores were probably told to send back discontinued product on a set list, with the old bands being on there. Once the distribution centers run out, it’ll be like before stores closed, and they’ll be back out of stock online. IIRC Best Buy is also out of Fall 2019 colors, and so are most authorized dealers.
I don’t know. It would be one thing if it was just going back to winter or spring, but in a normal world the stores would have been out of the fall bands ages ago. I never went to the physical stores a lot but I always remembered very selective stock of just a few of the current colors.

More than anything though, Apple knows their inventory better than any company and is constantly shipping to the stores every day...I don’t see how covid could have left some massive lot of unsold bands from 2019...I think I just want to believe in a more magical story like someone inside the company was sick of the rates on the secondary market and was trying to eat the lunch of Greymatters**t and his ilk...

Apple knows exactly what they’re doing releasing and discontinuing bands. They know what kind of secondhand markets they create, and they most certainly know the prices. I have a hard time believing someone at Apple said “Hey, let’s keep these bands up for a year. I don’t like how those collectors price them.” Especially considering nobody at Apple has any real reason to care. Anyone powerful enough to call those shots can certainly afford both retail and aftermarket prices on any bands they want if they collect.

I don’t know where the stock comes from, but I can almost guarantee it’s limited. Those Fall bands are discontinued, and aren’t being replenished. Besides, Apple isn’t going to open additional assembly lines in the factory just so they can offer 45+ options at once. Those who even buy OEM are part of a very very small niche. We’re really all Apple sells to, just collectors and people with money who need a replacement. 90% of people will go to Amazon or eBay when they need a new band. I’m sure they’ve crunched the numbers and realized themselves manufacturing 45+ colors at once for such a niche is a terrible idea for financial gain.

Ok but remember when Apple bought Beats in part to get more of the pie on a very hot Store seller? Or all these Store exclusive Logitech et al accessories? What if this is just a larger strategy shift from “let’s make the bands capsule-style collector’s items” to “why are we letting eBay sellers capture the market demand for pink blast and pine green?”

Aside from the money angle, it’s just a bad experience for us to see a color all grayed out and then go hunting in the wilds of eBay or, gasp, Ali. Maybe Tim’s holy “customer sat” on band availability was at Kevin Lynch dance skill level. Maybe the limited bands things is an Angela vestige.

I just want logic not napkin math from Dop Consultants LLC...it’s all love, though, my guy. I just feel like if this is the new normal it changes the every watch band lifestyle from Hunger Games to Star Wars IV. The beauty part is only time will tell. We can watch the store from this August to next and speculate speculate speculate.

As promised long ago, my Equateur Tatouage Hermes with the final custom watch face by @jeremyfernie Industries, like wow, so seamless

To me, it’s so close to looking like anchor gray at a casual glance, (which I like more), but I’m growing on the lava-glow a bit. Under the right lighting, you can catch the color threads which are a pastel blue and pink, which is an odd choice for the name I think.

Yes Royal Pulse/Lava Glow’s pastel blue and pink threads definitely pop when you catch it just right!

If you like that, I've got a deal for you... I'll sell you a Series 3 for just $600. And not only does it not come with a box or charger.... it doesn't come with a watch or a watch band.

Act now, supplies are limited, and these babies won't be around long!
I will take 2 for sure, maybe even 3. That is if you can spare a 3rd one.

“Only took it out of the box and wore it once.”
