I wonder if the S5 ceramic has suddenly become collectable in wider context, given there are five of us on here openly buying / seeking one right now (and therefore probably others who haven't mentioned it).

I was looking fairly actively on eBay for a couple of months after it was discontinued, but Euro ones that work with NZ LTE bands were always very expensive and I lost enthusiasm. I did consider buying a US one as I am almost certainly not going to activate the LTE connection, and they seemed to be a lot more realistically priced, but even they were a bit high given the resale if I wanted to move it on would be a lot lower if the LTE wouldn't work or it needed to be shipped back to North America. My thinking was that after some time demand might fall off and prices soften, but perhaps that isn't the case. I was also aware that probably fewer would come up for sale after the rush of upgraders sold their S5 ceramic when they got their S6 replacement.

If the S7 has a ceramic option that will hit S5 ceramic values quite hard I expect, but if it doesn't, and if the S7 doesn't have a killer upgrade feature (and I'm not sure what that could be, beyond massive battery life or case size (thinness) improvements), then perhaps they will maintain or even rise.

Someone suggested that it might be S8 before we see ceramic back again (if then), and I tend to think that is more likely than a ceramic S7. The S7 won't need a fancy case material to tempt people as the case itself will be a new design that should be enough for anyone who is looking for a different case. The S8 might need a bump if it is an "S year" after the S7, so that would be the time to bring ceramic back if it's coming.
I snatched it because it was a good deal. Had been pondering the series 3 ceramics I see sometimes for around $200 instead of the usual -+$400 “just for funsies”. I missed of on a real cheap Hermes 4, but I’d be missing AOD. If they for some reason stop producing the ceramic, I’d be set with a collectible!

It’s to be determined if I keep the ceramic. I’m sure a big white watch on a small wrist is a fashion statement, do I want to do be my always statement? (Probably..) It’s taking it’s sweet time to ship, it’s due next week.

Now, wasn’t there a discussion on getting a ceramic band from Apple? Mine does not come with said coveted band.

It takes some teaching the support agent, but eventually they have a way to send you a support payment/repair work authorization to get a “vanilla” soft white band for $49...I’ve been told. Got mine retail and got a second band free because the ceramic coating came off, so I’m not being coy or something lol, just truly don’t have firsthand knowledge.

I had a Hermes S4, but I just couldn't like it. The S5 was out by then (and I had one in SS), and it just seemed pointless to me to have those (lovely) faces not be on all the time. I used it for sleep tracking until I bought the SBSS S5.

So if you keep the ceramic will you sell on your current (Gold SS S5 IIRC?)? I'm not sure I'd do that personally - like I think you're saying, ceramic is not so all purpose as the SS / GSS and I'd not be keen to wear it every day. I imagine it would look pretty odd with some Nike SBs especially, though I watched an unboxing video yesterday where someone bought a new S5 ceramic with a SSLB. It looked awful to my eye, but he evidently liked it.

Not trying to pout you off however, and it will really make a lot of bands pop.

Band delivery day for me too. Got a Blue Horizon and an Ocean Blue to go along with the Blue Cobalt and Alaskan Blue I had already picked up. Now I just have to decide which to keep. Leaning toward Ocean right now, though it might be a bit too purple.

TBD. I’ll fill you guys in with what I think! Currently, my budget has room for only one watch. So my decision will be a tough one, I’m sure. I dress fashionably plain, but my wild nature comes out in other ways. I doubt I’ll have a hard time wearing a ceramic as main, but, it’s the gold SS for me that does such a good job of sitting right in “blending in” and “standing out” that really has me in a hold.

Thanks.. I ordered soft and antique. But the one I got early seems to be something other than g2. We will have to wait and see what they look like side by side
I also will pull out all my whites and struggle to see ones I know are the same color as identical. Obviously age hits the whites the hardest. But also maybe the soft white for the ceramic is different than the old soft white? But at the same time the jump from white1 to white2 is very stark. White1 is like someone who got their teeth bleached. Very blue I wanna say.

I hear you on the budget. I wanted ceramic enough to jump and let Visa take the strain while I figure out how it's actually funded, but I think I have now got that covered thanks to confirmation a pay rise will be backdated to mid December.

I really like White 1; it's actual white. My wife has the white part of the collection however, and she wears Soft White the most. When we got Antique for her I was pleasantly surprised that IRL it isn't as "nicotine stained white" as I thought it would be from photos.

That’s right, antique is just perfect. I consider it the default band for my gold SS. I still want a Cream goo band though, which Mike predicted and got me super high for. Though I can’t complain about Kumquat, which is my favorite orange—until the next one is unveiled.
