SPort band being uncomfortable is new to me

Looks like Apple is releasing a new purple. lol
I don’t own one anymore, but I have in the past, and within an hour of putting it on, I want to rip the watch off my wrist. Seriously the least comfortable OEM band I’ve ever worn. Sticks to my skin and doesn’t breathe at all. I do have a Nike sport band, which is a little better, but I still swap it out when I’m done with my run or workout.

I don't care for using the Sport Band for, well, sports ironically lol. It does stick to the skin and doesn't breathe. When I'm working out I prefer to switch to one of the fabric bands. Typically my Olive Flak Sport Loop, as it's basically been demoted to workout duty lol. I love the sports for the color and under normal circumstances I have no problems with them. At least I can adjust it and make it looser/tighter if my skin starts to sweat or swell, unlike the Solo Loop.

It is sad, but that's what their spring colors have been in 2019 and 2020, at least. A green, a blue, and something that is more or less a pinky orange color. In 2019 they even had lilac. I was really hoping for something else - something that doesn't feel like just a lighter or darker version of a color they've already done. Something cheerful. Google the spring release from 2018 - wow, what an explosion of color! Covid has made this past year boring and dull. Let's perk it up. It is SPRING! Let's look forward to life, not backwards to the same old boring thing. If these are the spring watch band colors, I'll be quite disappointed with Apple.
Yeah Papaya/Spearmint/Delft into Cornflower/Dragon/Canary was a special set of trios. I wonder if there will be four spring bands or if one of these leaks is a summer color.

TBF, these are just the Sport Bands and Solo Loops (probably). Not only could there be more of each, but we still haven't gotten a look at the Sport Loops, any of the Nike Bands, the Braided Solo Loops or the leather bands. There is still a lot more coming. Plus, I seem to recall in the past they have released Sport Bands that did not have a color-matching iPhone case. And... we're still waiting on Summer colors. Who knows, maybe they'll bump Summer up to make up for being late with the Spring release and we'll get both drops in April. One could hope!
Do the Nike ones usually come out the same time as the regular ones?

Yeah, I honestly don't get the appeal of the solo loop. I like the original sport loop material better, and... what does the solo loop actually provide that the sport loop doesn't, other than more difficulty putting it on and off and more finicky sizing? Also the lack of clasps makes it look less like a real watch to me.

Then again, I don't really love the sport loops either---the Velcro thing, bleaugh. The solo loops and the sport loops are the only bands Apple has ever made that look cheap, IMO.

“Ultracomfort” might be the most cringey word Apple has ever used but trust us, the lack of clasp against the wrist and the lighter weight is a major less is more moment. To not have the bulk of the pin cutting through the air feels amazing. That’s not to say I don’t sometimes pine for the matchy goodness with my SSS watch but if gold and black pins are gone...

And the color is much more consistent throughout the band (hopefully they don’t all go to crap under duress like Deep Navy, but I’m not about to be the guinea pig) and every solo loop is just going to have that same perfect feel and look because the ingredients don’t differ so much like the sport bands. Maybe that means we don’t get the peaks of glowy cactus and surf blue...I think this upcoming blue will tell us.

I have Bandbreite and it's a great app. I only have the one OEM band so far...

Bit unsure on what version my S3 band is, could anybody help?

38mm black sport band, bought 18th June 2020.

If its marked 38mm, *usually* it means it’s the old black gen 1, the darkest black they’ve done, similar to Hermes and Unity.

BUT I recently found out from MikeDop (rip) that Apple being so detail-oriented, the S3 ships with a black gen 2 (lighter black) that is marked like an old band even though they stopped marking standalone bands 38/42mm in fall 2018, just to match the watch size.

This is a new s3 you bought retail? What year does the box say?

Thanks for the fast reply!

Says 2018 on the box, I bought it new from the Apple website.

Hope this is okay, as you can see it's rather late! If you need a better photo I can take one when the sun comes up.:)

Yeah if you don’t mind haha. Mostly I need a good bright look at the aluminum so I can squint and compare it mine. This is fun, we haven’t had an episode of band detectives around these parts in awhile.

I’ve also recently just been into the black bands, between the Hermes and buying a fresh black1 with space gray pin, which will arrive soon, out of sheer boredom having collected every color and the delay with the spring 2021 collection.

Yup! Usually all the bands get a refresh in Spring.

I don’t mind the velcro. I prefer it when I’m working out, it’s much more breathable than the Sport Band. Personally the Sport Loop are still kinda iffy to me. The later ones seem to be better quality than the early S3 ‘white fuzz’ versions. Those seem to have a problem with with loose threads and marks left by the Velcro in the fabric. That’s why I only have one from the original drop (Midnight Blue) and all my other Sport Loops are later, more vibrant ones.

I just feel the Sport Loops either can’t or just don’t get as bright and vibrant as the Woven Nylons. I just really really like the Nylons haha. 😅

About a year and a half ago I ordered the original black with the silver pin. Paid probably more than I should have but the silver pin black bands seem just impossible to find, especially new.

Hope this photo shows off the aluminium better, it’s a very dull day here unfortunately.

lol, happy to take part. What’s the Hermes one like, and how much did you pay for it?

The post office never tells the truth, I'm still waiting on my Midnight Blue sport loop band that they said would be here on 03/27. 😂🤣
Hey I've been waiting on my Fedex overnight package for a couple days now.... Emphasis on the overnight.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more compression molded bands. Maybe marble swirl, or a Klimt-like arrangement of circles. I just saw the new collection of Museum of Modern Art Swatch watches and thought how great a nice artwork Apple Watch band would be. I know there are sellers on Etsy etc who sell printed silicone bands, but they usually only come in one size (M/L), plus I worry about the print wearing off.
