I have to be brutally honest in my review of the Cantaloupe sport band.

You make it sound like other people (who like Cantaloupe) weren‘t honest?

Too much orange, with a hint of neon.

I told you it is orange. Post Not a hint, not a dash, it is a pale, pastel orange. Also, in the multiple pictures posted here it always looked orange. I don‘t get how you can be suprised by that now.

Walking around my closet, I see nothing that goes with Cantaloupe. Arghhhhhh......

Yeah, if you really don‘t like it, just send it back. I guess you‘re rather looking for another very neutral band like Pink Sand, but they are few and far between. Maybe take a look at the Bandbreite app/chart and you‘ll find something from an earlier season. Link Most older bands can be found on ebay.

Yeah I don’t see how you can enjoy the pink pastel bands and not find room in your heart for the very first orange one. I mean maybe the sport band is just that inferior 😉.

Maybe it’s just the lighting but it’s not inspiring me like solo ‘loupe on my wrist right now doing its neon thing in the dark. Doing a quick search I think you’re the first person to post the sport band version.

Does anyone know what pin the black sport band comes with these days when ordered off the store a la carte?

Ah, right, that is indeed another spanner in the works. I did send the Cyprus Green Sport Band back and later got the Solo Loop and kept it because it seemed richer (and indeed greener) …

Are you getting both versions if a colour is released in both, for completeness‘ sake? Or maybe someone can compare both Cantaloupes in a store (still closed round here).

I'm just going to give it a few days. It is a lot more "vibrant" and "neon" than I expected. I guess I was hoping for a pale/ pastel/ very muted orange, just like pink is for the Pink Sand band. Almost white under certain lightings if you know what I mean. I didn't expect this Cantaloupe color to "jump out" so to speak.

Perhaps I need to get out of my comfort zone, we will see. If all else fails and Cantaloupe doesn't grow on me, I will most likely exchange it for the white.

For some reason, my iPhone isn't capturing this color accurately....

But now you got me thinking if there is indeed a difference in color between the solo loop and the sport loop. Also, from Youtube videos I've seen on the Cantaloupe case, it looked a lot lighter and creamier- like Pink Sand's sister, but in orange.

flat silver/white was one of the 4 original nike bands that were only available with the nike watch, they might have released it later for a bit by itself but i cant remember.

No, they didn‘t. And yes, AFAIK „Light Grey / White“ was just the name printed on the demo boxes of Flat Silver / White, i.e. they are one and the same.

No avoiding all sport bands if I can because the solo loops seem to all have a more finished, soft look and feel.

I don’t know that the silicone cases are necessarily the best comparison. But another thing to check out in the store when I make my first visit in the solo loop era!

Cantaloupe in the midst of a beautiful bouquet.
Looks great on that watch body (and bouquet)!

Lots of subjectivity there, but here's a purely objective take as to how Sport Bands offer a superior experience:
  • fitment experience (eg. tightening 1 pin more when swimming, loosening when inflammation occurs due to tendonitis or even simple exertion)
  • longevity (stretch issue, plus you yourself have a torn one)
  • shopping (solo = size nightmare + only from Apple + 2nd hand market is even more terrible to navigate)
To pay respect to your vote: I can indeed imagine the pin inconvenience with yoga, though.

Pin inconvenience is a sweaty, heavy mess 24/7 as well, not just during pretzel-like binds. Plus the mismatch factor. I think the hole-free look is growing on me, especially with these new light ones.

Let me know when you’re ready to rid yourself of all those Nike ones with all those awful holes ;)

Meanwhile, long live the sport band.. with a fresh shot of Mallard:

In 6 years of wearing Apple Watches, I have never used a different Sport Band hole.

You can put Solo Loops on and off without stretching. I have described this before.

  • shopping (solo = size nightmare)

The „size nightmare“ is a one-time thing. Once you found your size, though, the Solo Loop is just on another level of comfort compared to Sport Bands.

Holes: it's an every day thing for me 🤷‍♂️ But hey, it's nice to have the option. It also makes it vastly easier to share / sell.

Solo Loop method is what I believe lead to the aforementioned damage, though I could be wrong. Let's reach out to @athousandbands for comment, as I believe he never disclosed this development when it happened.

Comfort is very subjective. I'd be intermittently comfortable at best, for sure. I'm also more "comfortable" with the freedom as noted ;)

Alas, it would seem that Apple has (for now) accepted the needs of the divided masses. In fact, we got far more "goo" with pins than otherwise if you count Nike 💪

FWIW, I have a ton of Sport Bands and still like them a lot! I just got Capri as well. But given a choice, I‘ll always choose the Solo Loop.

Yeah the “the future method” was seriously inadvisable at least on a steel watch. The solo loop can’t handle the torquing with that heft imbalance.

But the lightness is the point. Less is more. The sport band is more of a old Dell Laptop than an OG MacBook Air.

I really want to like the sport bands. The surf SB that I have is one of my favorite colors. But I was wearing it just yesterday and got too warm. My wrist got larger, the band was making me sweat underneath it, even after adjusting to a larger hole, and in the end I just had to take it off - it left marks on my arm. When I got home I switched into a sport loop and all was well. It would seem to me that the solo loops must be even worse - still no breathability and no possibility of size adjustment. I have one of the braided solo loops. Really nice, etc., but still, when I get warm and my wrist expands it becomes too tight and uncomfortable. I must be unusual, I guess, but for now my favorite band will be the sport loop - it is breathable and the size can be adjusted.

Definitely not alone, as the brief chat above would indicate. Sport bands are my go-to for messy work / swimming / dishes / etc. Sport loops are perfect for everything else - short of formal affairs, of course.

On this note.. Here’s to hoping Nike doesn’t put a stop to their line of sport loops. We’ve seen seasons skipped in the past, after all.

If your pictures are accurate reflections of the Cantaloupe, than your solo loop is "lighter in color" and "more pastel" than the sport band I own. My 12 pro max cannot accurately photograph the Cantaloupe color at all. Yeah, yours does look better. Having said that, thank you for opening up my heart about embracing an orange.
