Thats not the question being asked, the question being asked is if the retnia screen is worth the extra price and the inability to upgrade, and the answer for myself and others is No. I'll keep my upgradeability thx.

Eventually (i.e within 4 years), we will all have Retina displays. 4 years ago, people were asking the same exact questions about the MacBook Air (e.g. why get a notebook that has no optical drive or Ethernet port?), and now "Ultrabooks" are all the rage. If I had the money, I'd get the rMPB as a main computer in a heartbeat. I'm an Air fan, though (and have been since Day 1), and will wait for the technology to trickle down to my level. I won't deny that "Retina" is the future, though.

Still, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever that Apple couldn't offer it in the unibody, is there?
I love apple products but this company is all about profits. They were able to jam this screen into a cheap, inexpensive aluminum sandwich and tell us we don't need FireWire, OD, anti-glare or Ethernet, we need retina. Don't worry about the battery or upgrades they say, you'll only keep it for 2-3 years anyway. After that, they'll serve up some more kool-aid with a little more retina flavoring a dash of carbon fiber and a whole lot of special glue additives. The loyal sheeple will follow, flock and condemn anybody who differs.
I'm passing on the Retina kool-aid for now......

This fellow is very enamored with his cleverness; he is so clever you will never be able to engage him in a meaningful exchange because the debate is all about him and how clever he is.

I knew guys like him in college. (I wouldn't be surprised if he is an undergrad student.) So smart, so clever, so full of it.

That's why I don't even bother with people like that. Either way, they'll end up thinking whatever they want. Lol

Would that everyone did such. It's far better, and far more mature, to ignore those you don't want to engage than to respond with insults and ad homonyms, as many others did. At least you displayed respect when you disagreed and did not value my opinion and contribution. For that I thank you.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I try to live by that. And I didn't mean for that to escalate to what it did. Cheesy as it is, everyone's opinion matters. But in short, you're welcome. Lol

better left unseen

Actually, I think the retina display is the very LAST thing you need. Don't get one. Seriously.

When I'm hacking away at something, I've got a thousand different apps open, keeping track of 3 or 4 separate compiles, reading tech docs, listening to music, just generally in the zone, sometimes...sometimes I'll slow down and look a bit more closely at the smooth text on this beautiful, brilliant display. And it's just amazing. There are no pixels.

So no, please don't buy one. Because working with the retina display MBP will completely spoil other computer displays for you. Much like using a Mac mostly ruins using PCs for you.

you are a bit mad but i like it ,. but its advise best left unhedited,. ur analogy is for the ones that can't afford the mbpRD ,. and for the ones that do the price will be justified,. and the pixels are there ,. I'm half blind and i can see them ,. but i don't think after looking at my iPhone how bad the screen is on my mac ,. :)

I don't understand this question I've seen floating around - "do you need a retina display?" If you are literate and read things on a computer, you need a retina display.

you would imagine so wouldn't you ,. :) my partner has PERFECT vision ,. and any time i use her sunglasses after her i see the lens are full of finger prints and smudges ,.and he brain just dismiss's it !! but my vision is 18/16 so its not that great ,. but i see every little bit of dirt ,. its not always about the best screen,. !! but more so the eyes of the person looking ,. and anyway in the next 3 years there will be OLED screens no thicker the 3 mm with a resolution in the 4,000 range ,. so for all the people that are willing to wait to experience the 2,200 res ,. in 3 years ,.when its more affordable ,.. there will be a new screen on the block ,. O,L,E,D organic light emitting diodes = that run on ,. 8% of the power of todays screens and combined with a grafine layer will be totally touchscreen compatible ,..

Don't worry about the battery

Something needs to hold the battery in place... what's going to take up more space; a cage that needs screws drilled into the unibody and battery or just glue the battery to the bottom?

... ;)
