Interesting. I always thought that was the reason behind a Bill To address and a Ship To address. Usually, the Bill To address is checked with the credit card company.
Oh well...
I really want to change the shipping address on mine because I won't be home until the 26th which means my iphone is probably going to be stuck in Fedex limbo. However, with the pre-order delays now getting longer, I really don't want to risk screwing up my order. Does apple allow you to pre-sign for the package? I seem to remember doing that with an ipod a while back.
I called Apple today and the rep said they had to get supervisor approval. A moment later they came back on the phone and said they got approval and would be able to change it for me.
Minutes later I got an email that the address was changed and it also reflects my work address online as the ship to.
This shows that they will change the address for you.
As far as pre-sign. There was a document on this on the forum yesterday. I can't remember what it said though. I think you can't though.
How long did you have to wait on the phone? It seems like you can do it really easily online, but it would seem a little safer to call.

She said this was her 5th call about the shipping address change.
She told me, she does not recommend changing it. They let you change it on normal orders, but that field should have been grayed out for the iphone 4. Due to problems in the past, she said they will be shipping to your at&t billing address only.
So if you want to get it shipped somewhere else, change your at&t billing address BEFORE you order your iphone.
She said if there is a conflict, they will hold your ordered.
I changed all my info back to how it was. I'd rather take a drive to the fedex office then get it delayed to who knows when.
She sounded pretty sure this was the deal.

You can change it yourself on the site, i did and got the address change confirmation . From what i heard, this option is for non iphone items, they just didnt disable it for whatever reason.
And was told that when they actually go to ship, it will cause a conflict.
If it was sent as a gift (as my Mom sent it to me), the addresses won't match. It is the AT&T billing address that needs to match.
And, of course I go to change everything back and AT&T's system is offline again. Sigh...
I'm changing it all back rather than tempting fate. If they deliver to my home, they'll just take it to our leasing office so at least I know it'll be there when I get home.

You guys are really starting to make me paranoid that my order is going to be spontaneously canceled because I have changed my address...
Not cancelled, but possibly put on hold. Thats what they told me. She said we shouldnt have been able to make the change on the new iphone.
They all say something different. And how did you even speak to a rep? They aren't taking any calls re: iPhones.
When ordering mine, i didn't realize until after it was in my cart that i had neglected to change my AT&T billing address after i moved a short while ago. It was still at my Parent's house about 80 miles away. After speaking to a couple Apple Reps on the store chat, I went ahead with the order with the plans of changing the shipping address. In the mean time, i corrected my AT&T billing address to my new house, and then changed the shipping address on my iPhone online today. If they do a check, my addresses match up so i should be good. At least, I sure hope so
I dunno. I called 2 hours ago, i got the automated man that says he understands full sentences. I told him customer service, then regarding iphone. it rang and i got the piss off message.
then i called again, and it went straight to the piss off messgae.
3rd time, i got the automated guy again, and all i said was customer service this time.
The rep told me to copy everything from the billing address field, to the shipping field exactly, and there wont be any problem.
Thats exactly what i did!
I talked to someone on chat, and she said it will hold up your order if it doesn't match your AT&T billing address. I just changed it all back. Not worth worrying about. My husband has the day off on Thursdays anyway.
Now you guys have me worried. I just went on AT&T site and changed my billing address to my home address which is what I changed my order to. Will just change it back after 6/24. Worst case scenario is that 1 bill will come to my house.
