you mean to change the billing address on your AT&T account?

No, I think he means the billing address for your credit card information that you entered into Apple, nothing to do with AT&T. I think you had to have your address changed at AT&T before you did this in order for it to work.

Thats the same she told me, but said i should have changed my at&t billing info BEFORE i put the order in.

its not worth risking i say.

:apple:i'm not changing mine.... i'm too much of a scaredy cat... took too much out of me yesterday to get the damned things ordered... i'll just stay home from work on the 24th! (the great american sick out... all caused by apple! )

OK, new update:

I just talked to Charlie at Apple. She changed my shipping address to my work, and she said it is totally fine. It won't hold up any orders to change your address.

Must resist temptation to change it again. My leasing office better sign for it. More importantly, FedEx/UPS better try and deliver it to my leasing office.

*cough, cough* I think I feel a cough coming on...haha

I just talked to someone on the phone and the woman said it was perfectly fine to change the shipping address...although she didn't exactly sound like the brightest person so I have no clue what to believe anymore. Only thing she said was that the credit card billing address had to match the AT&T billing address..

Wait, so does the billing address on the Apple Order Status have to match the shipping address on the Apple Order Status?

Or does the billing address on the Apple Order Status have to match the billing adress on ATT's website?

Not changing

I'm on a family plan with my parents and brother but live over 700 miles away from my "billing address". I changed the shipping address for my iPhone after i ordered it and I'm leaving it that way.

If it gets sent to that other address I'll wait for my parents to mail it to me or queue up on the 24th and sell the other one. I'll let you now how it works out.

I just changed to my work address (which was already saved on apple.com). Since I have a reserved phone, I'll just watch the shipping status and if it gets canceled, wake up early Thursday. Seriously, it should be obvious that I'm legit if my CC billing address matches the ATT billing address.

This is what I'm wondering. My ATT billing and Apple billing addresses are the same. Can I now change the shipping address to wherever I want?

When I was ordering the phone, I changed my billing address to where I wanted it to be shipped, which doesn't match the ATT's billing address. I think I messed up but I've been put on hold for a while.

hahaha, getting sick are ya???;)

I'm sure your leasing office will get and hold the package for you. Most fedex/ups guys know to do so, they're smart dudes! They know you iPhone is in that box, they know better with things like that. DHL though, they'll leave your package anywhere, theyre just crazy. lol

I'm to assume though that Apple will have charged your CC by delivery day, and technically once CC is charged, your discount is gone in AT&T's eyes, so you'd have to pay 699 if you wait in line, unless my assumption is off, then dont listen to me, lol

apple is stating that the shipping address must match the billing address for ATT. a lot of members dont live where the ATT billing address is, so they and myself included ordered the phone to the billing address, and later edited our order to ship it to where we really are... we all hope apple allows this, as they did last year without such requirement.

Thank you for responding and I think I messed up by touching the billing address on the iPhone order form. Does the billing address on the Apple Order Status have to match ATT's?

Thanks,
ChrisN

Im just going to play it safe and have it shipped to the billing address...Dont want to give any reason to delay my order...

Not according to the customer service person at Apple She said it needed to match at the origination of the order.

If you are already an AT&T customer it must match your AT&T billing address.

If You are a new customer it must match you CC billing address.

Yeah, I'm leaving it all alone now. They've delivered to my leasing office before and I've never had problem. My AT&T billing, Apple billing and ship to addresses all match. Best to leave it be.

This way, none of the people in my office will get their grimy hands on my phone if I get it delivered there...haha

I successfully pre-ordered yesterday at about 10:30am PST (after about 8 hours of trying). A few hours later (I think it was after my order confirm), I went into the order status page and changed my ship to address to work. Then I got a confirmation email saying it updated my status correctly. After seeing all of the posts on here, I decided to call Apple CS.

Just got off the phone with Valerie from Apple's Customer Support and she made it sound like I was fretting over nothing. When I asked why they 'required' the shipping address to be the same as the billing address, she mentioned that sometimes its used for security purposes - I guess they do random checks at times. She also said if there's an issue that I would be contacted and 'asked' before hand. Lastly, she said everything is fine on their end and that my ship-to address (to work) is fine and I should be good to go.

I've also got a pending credit on my bank account for the amount.

I can imagine that if the order hasn't processed and the ship-to address gets changed, that might cause problems, but as long as the order has been confirmed, I can't imagine why it would be an issue to change the ship-to.

Sounds like we're making a big hullabaloo about nothing. I may eat my words later, but I feel comfortable enough with the change on my ship-to address.

Good luck to everyone!

How long did you have to wait on the phone? It seems like you can do it really easily online, but it would seem a little safer to call.

I only waited maybe 30 seconds. Granted it was probably the 20th time I called (not in a row).

Got high volume message and then got DC. Called back and it put me through. Said wait time was greater than 5 minutes but wasn't even a minute.

I'm aware you can change online yourself, but since the order process said you can't I called to get some solid info. Or at the very least have somebody to blame other then myself in the event something goes wrong.

If you are already an AT&T customer it must match your AT&T billing address.

If You are a new customer it must match you CC billing address.

So I should probably keep calling Apple to change the billing address back correct? But I can keep the shipping address as a different location correct?

Thanks,
ChrisN

I decided to change my shipping address on my Apple.com order. However, I also changed my AT&T main account/billing address online before I changed my iPhone order. I also switched over to paperless billing while I was at it.

I decided I just didn't want to work at home and wait all day for it.

I figure if you change both addresses to match until you get the phone it should be fine. My card has the charge authorizations already showing up on my CC online account.

So here's how I summarize this thread-

The website expressly declared during pre-order checkout, that the phone must be shipped to the same address as the ATT billing address.

At the time of checkout, that address was a certain address.

Different Apple reps said different things about it. The only ones who seemed to be informed as posted here, were the ones who said this policy will be enforced come shipment time.

IMO, by changing the shipping address and/or the AT&T billing address to something other than they were at the time of checkout is asking for trouble. I hope I'm wrong.
