Yesterday so-called "event" was lame in substance and form.
We talked a lot about the lack of substance, but the way they present their BS has become unbearable. All presenters speak like robots. I can see more life in some AI-generated videos... And Tim Cook was borderline aggressive. He's not just talking loud; he's yelling. Does he suffer from hearing loss?
This event was not just boring and insubstantial. It was creepy IMO.
I've been using a lot of Apple products for over 20 years, including iPhone since the 3GS... They should go back to real live events with real human beings... Yesterday I felt totally disconnected from Apple.

Was seriously considering a Ultra 3 this year. Thank you Apple for keeping me financially responsible. Next year could be a big year for you. Or I could decide to have the battery replaced in my 13 Pro Max and Series 7 watch. Your call!

I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people here don’t have apple phones. I think they just made an account so they can be negative for anything apple does.
I say it’s ok for people to be disappointed. I also say it’s ok to remind those people that the days of Earth-shattering updates every year are behind us.

I’ve been wondering for several years if Apple needs to dial down these launches.

Some of the camera controls left out of the presentation:

To toggle HDR mode on and off, use the following sequence on the button: .... -.. .-.

niiiiice, so many new features i'll never need or use. ill keep my 14pro for another year, thanks tho, nice try apple!

Ok, so Apple could have done this keynote in 45m tops.
But Apple has tons of attention seekers today who needs space.
It was some time ago Apple was for the customers.

I agree with this. I personally think all manufacturers are greedy releasing phones every year. I’m getting the 16pro and plan on keeping it for at minimum 4-5 years.

And I thought Apple couldn’t possibly get lazier or more incremental! Wrong! This is the most boring and lackluster product rollout in Apple history, and that’s saying something, especially recently. If I wasn’t already locked into the ecosystem I’d be out. By the time Apple Intelligence is ready for prime time next year the 17s will be right around the corner so why buy this warmed over 15 now?

It is September 2024 and Apple is still selling a trackpad that charges via lightning for $129. It is also selling a Magic Mouse - which has to charge via lightening upside down!!! - for $79.

Both were last updated 9 years ago.

What a world we live in.

I thought the event was fine. Nice upgrades -- and they maintained prices. Imagine the whining and wailing if there had been a price bump on the pro iPhones. You get additional features, better battery life, faster A18 chip that uses less power -- this is a win. Apple continues to achieve with its silicon, delivering excellent performance.

iPhone is a mature product. But over the course of a few incremental upgrades, Apple delivers a significant capability boost in their iPhone lineup, while still remaining one of the most secure and reliable smartphones on the market.

Also, Watch Series 10 and the Airpods upgrades were very well done. Decently priced, quality products that work better than anything else on the market. Apple will sell boatloads of Series 10 and Airpods.

I'll be getting a new iPhone and the Series 10. Apple delivers what we need: reliable products that work. I'm glad they didn't stick a whole bunch of "features" into the iPhone that no one wants, with more things that can break or degrade performance.
Buddy, they did increase the price of the Pro Max by getting rid of the 128gb option last year. Those who were fine with that have to pay an extra $100 for 256gb.

I agree, Apple made it clear that the only reason to buy the 16 Pro Max I was eyeing is Apple Intelligence which won’t launch in the EU. I would skip this completely if my wife wasn’t expecting to grab my 15 Pro Max.

I might even break out of the ecosystem if Google fixes better credit card support in my region for Google Pay. Buy a Pixel 9 Pro Fold and be done with it, will give me a lot more exciting things as well as the AI features.

Granted, I skipped through it but I liked it. I only post this because so many voted it down. Perhaps I am a fool. I thought Allison Morrow's comments at CNN (The two words Apple never mentioned...) was insightful. Over to you.

What a boring keynote. Bozo The Clown presenting last years's technologies. Along with these totally ineffective transitions (*yawn*), my take away from this "keynote" was to get a cheap iPhone 15 because my XR is dying. Thanks, I don't need more capacitive buttons on the side so they can sell me an overpriced case.
Jobs would have fired all of them immediately.
I remember when they reinvented the laptop with the TiBook, just killed it with the Mac IIfx, or SJ took a MacBook Air out of the envelope. Anyone remember Aqua? iPod? THAT was a keynote. I am completely unimpressed with Apple these days.

It all started by killing creativity pro apps like Aperture. Big mistake. Life is more than consuming TikTok 24/7, they completely removed the creativity the Mac once stood for although they are obsessively claiming it still does.

The presentation was missing anything crushed slowly. At least we're getting close to a point where Tim can tell us were taking too many pics because we are holding the phone improperly.

What compromises do you reckon they made to get the battery from 1 day to 10 days?

And when you answer that, ask what possibilities it can't offer the user that the Apple Watch can because of them.
See for yourself:

The ecosystem still rocks and the software is still the best and most secure for phone. It’s the hardware - while still super high quality - that seems really lagging.

Yeah I agree what that completely, the only things I am missing on the software side are small things like LDAC support for better audio quality and stuff like that.

Tim: Now we have AI, what we should do with it?
Employee 1: Let's make possible to get a menu and timetable of a restaurant that you have in front of you.
Tim: Amazing! Yes, that will save everybody precious steps to get to the door
Employee 2: Let's make possible to guess the breed of random dogs!
Tim: Oh My God! That's way better than asking the owner about it. Let's do both then!

These are mature products. No one needs innovation every year -- innovation comes incrementally. Think of minor year-to-year changes as compounding interest. Over one year, the change in value isn't so much, but 5% every year for multiple years starts to add up and can make a big difference to your bank account balance. The average lifespan of ownership for a new phone is 3-4 years. That's when users start comparing models and looking for relevant reasons to upgrade.

I think people are always looking for the next super cycle and think if it's just incremental gains, no one will upgrade.

What they forget is that the vast majority of Apple's customers don't upgrade every year, but rather every 3-5 years, which means today's devices are MILES ahead of their previous Apple devices.
You forget that there are also a lot of people who are weighing in value for money. If you never look outside apples walled garden, Apple lets you believe their offerings are the latest and greatest.

In reality they’re way behind in tech compared to others. Not only that, they overcharge you for the older tech.

No 120 hz on the iPhone 16 only for the 16 pro’s? Even cheap phones from competitors use 120 hz… it’s the standard today.

Only 8gb of RAM to handle those RAM eating AI capabilities? 6 GB has proven to be too little for handling AI. So all iPhones below the iPhone 15 pro are crippled and not able to function at the fullest. That’s a one year old phone we’re talking about costing around € 1000,- 🤪.

But AI won’t be coming to Europe until mid 2025 so why buy the 16 anyway.

Todays Apple devices may be the best Apple has to offer but compared to the competitors they’re MILES BEHIND in hard- and software. Comparing them on price…. They’re way overpriced.

The actual video should have been 45 minutes, an hour tops.

Those transitions were killing me. Come on, we don't need a fancy fifteen second transition between every presenter.
