The AirPods Max really were the biggest shocker of the event. Like you said, I can’t believe they didn’t even put the new chips in that the AirPods Pro have for over a year now and still ask for the same price as four (!) years ago. It’s like keeping the iPhone 12 Pro in the line up and selling it for the same price as is 2020. It’s ridiculous. I really hope no one buys them.
These are headphones there is no need to update them all the time. AKG is selling models that are decades old and the price never came down really. Sure, those are just big driveres in an encloser, but even active headphone don't neccesarily need new hardware all the time. You know that the Sony ones, that are still considered one of the best NC headphones came out in 2020 and their predecessor in 2018. There is absolutley no need to keep churning out new models so often.

I think people are always looking for the next super cycle and think if it's just incremental gains, no one will upgrade.

What they forget is that the vast majority of Apple's customers don't upgrade every year, but rather every 3-5 years, which means today's devices are MILES ahead of their previous Apple devices.

It is also a good thing that you can use your devices for longer and don't feel the pressure to upgrade all the time. Phones have especially come to a point where there is no need to innovate all the time. I'm OK with small updates and waiting for something significant to change. Constant growth is anyway unsustainable.

Was a good event. Like the new Series 10, improvements to AirPods. Very happy to see brighter colours for the normal 16 models. The pink looks very good along with the ultramarine. Not so impressed with Desert Titanium. Have to see it in person.

Apple Event in one sentence: AirPods 4 have shorter stem and now holds less charge. How cool is that?!

What a joke. Apple really pushing their lazy incrementalism with these minimal annual updates.

AW S10 is thinner with a bigger screen — great! But no new health sensors and SpO2 not resolved? And what’s with the hideous large bezels? For the Ultra, last year’s model gets a new color and some hideous Hermes bands. Come on…

The 4-year-old AirPods Max got a port update and… that’s it.

iPhones’ RAM and cameras are behind the Pixel Pro 9. But hey, the A18 “challenges latest desktop processors” so you can load TikTok filters faster, I guess? And boy are they pushing AI as the next big thing with iPhone to fill up time.

Don’t worry though: everything’s carbon neutral!!!

iPhones do not need the RAM that inefficient Android phones need. And cameras are certainly on par if not better. The Pixel Pro apart from the camera bar is a copy of an iPhone and all the features Google and. Samsung keep adding are ripped from Apple. I will take build quality and tried and tested support of a promise from an Android OEM any day. We have reached peak smartphone. It will be software from here on out. And at least Apple has a clearly and privacy focussed strategy laid out. Until Android OEM and the rush for I did it first and now subscribe.

Mega disappointed that iPP line up didn't received 20Gb/s USB speeds like 3rd gen iPadPro. it is beyond stupid locking out functionality that is already in the silicon, but is limited artificially.
What on earth do you need 20Gbps speeds for in an iPhone? 🤔
And what makes you think the A18 Pro chip, a smartphone chip, supported it?

That is SSD speed territory - would such a fast Thunderbolt/USB controller and memory chip fit into an iPhone case have you done the engineering math how that would impact battery capacity? And heat output?

I mean… it‘s not as if you‘d use a fast USB-C SSD to edit videos on an iPhone screen, would you?

Why are they upgrading AirPods and AirPods Pro then all the time? They didn't even bother to put in the same chips they put in the Pros a year ago. Their tech is so outdated compared to AirPods Pros and that's why people are angry about them. Your argument doesn't make any sense.

the vast majority of Apple's customers upgrade their device only every 3-5 years and what was released today (apart from the AirPods Max... yikes) will be miles ahead of whatever Apple device they are replacing, so it will feel like a major upgrade to them.
So would upgrading to an iPhone 15 or 15s, wouldn’t it?

I think as humans we often focus on getting a "super cycle" where the upgrades are so significant or attractive that it inspires people to upgrade sooner, but those are few and far between and not Apple's bread and butter.
True - but shouldn’t you tell that to Apple?

I think part of the reason for the (somewhat) negative reception of this is how Apple (and the rumour sites and pundits) it all up to be a great “event” - and then have their talking heads sound like a great leap year after year after year - and it isn’t.

Notice how they’re carefully phrasing the products “built for Apple intelligence”, which, fine print, will be ”available in beta on all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English, as an iOS 18 update this fall. Some features and additional language will be coming over the course of the next year.”

👉 Incremental updates are fine. Just done’t make as much of a fuss about, then - or prepare for your marketing hyperbole to not be well-received by everyone.

I mean, the AI features are supposedly the ”big thing” about this update - so why not make them an event to talk about them? When you have something to ship and show (at least in U.S. English)!

This really could have been a press release instead of an event. For people like me who are interested in tech being an Apple user is becoming more boring as time goes on, less and less happens every year. I really wonder how long iOS as an OS can keep me buying iPhones, eventually Android will get as good support for credit cards and such and I can more easily switch to something more exciting.

I get what you're saying but unfortunately that's not how marketing works.

Like you, I'd prefer to live in a world of accurate, realistic advertising. Alas, we're stuck in this one.

A really boring presentation which i'm not surprised. We are at the point where pretty much everything has been done on a Smartphone and it was Apple who led that charge. All we have now are incremental upgrades and they are hyped as innovation. You know you are at peak innovation when the iPhone presentation is centered around the new screen size and the new materials along with the exciting new colorway.
