They’re so excited about everything at Apple. It’s as if they believe if they say that they are excited enough times it might actually turn out to be true. It isn’t. God I hope there is someone at Apple actually trying to innovate still. There sure is no compelling evidence of it.

Today was the most boringly inconsequential product announcement ever. The breathless gushing over virtually nothing of consequence was just pathetic.
I saw the writing on the wall 5 minutes into the "show". Stories of people. BORING. I turned it off. Figured I could catch up later here.

What cracks me up is so many people crying about lack of innovation at Apple, and yet when pressed, they have not been able to articulate what that might or could be, even at the most rudimentary top level. It's just a big bowl of whine to feel better about themselves.

100% exactly this. I’ve seen the exact same thing

Are you suggesting that we, the customers, are supposed to do the innovating for Apple? Nor are we the very highly paid creators at Apple. There are many companies who are NOT known for innovation, and a few that are. Apple is the latter. So what happened?

And you sound like someone who loves to obfuscate with ad homonyms rather than address what was said.
Lol Citysnaps I think you mean “ad hominem” which amusingly enough is a homonym for homonym and almost all that I can remember from high school Latin classes. 😬. Sorry, carry on friend.

I agree people are really critical. I thought it was a concise presentation of new products and new services that I personally am quite interested in. For example, I love the idea of a curated fitness program, which honestly I wish debuted months ago when the lockdown began. At least I have a fitness mat all ready to go!

Yes, this could have been thrown into a bullet list form for a press release. But for some of us, a visual presentation is a rather welcome break in days of Zoom meetings and home schooling.

At least the presenters have much smoother on-point deliveries in this format than they do on stage in front of a live crowd.

I agree with you to a degree but don't think it's true of the Apple Watch. It felt like the year it became stale and hasn't had a real update for a couple of years. There is plenty of room for improvement for the Watch:
- Needs to be significantly thinner
- Needs to have a significantly better battery (1 day vs Fitbit's 6)
- Needs to remove the black bezel from the edge of the screen

You're not going to get significantly thinner and better battery life. At some point you have to choose one or the other, and if you go thinner, it's more prone to breaking. Reducing the bezel size will also hit battery life. Additionally, comparing Apple Watch and Fitbit is ridiculous. Apple Watch has many more capabilities and functions than any other Fitbit on the market. That's like saying my Kindle Paperwhite is a better tablet than my iPad because it gets better battery life. They're two different things.

Their product lineup has turned into a mess. It's not clear what you are buying aside from the price, not much was much mentioned for over an hour. It's a mixture new parts and some old in the 'new' products.

No, not at all, that's a cop out. I expect people to muster up just a tiny wee bit of imagination and suggest something, anything, at the most basic/top level, even if it seems impractical. But no... Hasn't happened yet. That's because it's easier to put 10 seconds into a tiny juvenile whine than it is to actually think/contemplate possibilities.

"There are many companies who are NOT known for innovation, and a few that are. So what happened?"

Apple is doing fine on that front. How about the "others" in the "few that are?"

Busted! :)

What irks me, isn't the lack of innovation, but the choice of taking another innovaton, doing the Apple thing with it, and missing the target. Take Blood Oxygen, Pulse Oximetry to the rest of the world, and they talk of the things they are doing with it. It's been around on watches, working well, for over 5 years now.
And one thing you do with innovation, is ensure that the things on your device that are already there, are fixed first. What's the point of a fitness app, that you use GPS with, that doesn't start tracking for about 45 secs after you start. Pathetic.

Will TouchID in the power button make it to the new iPhone release?

I wish it would. I’m still cruising along on my 7+. At this point the phone does everything I want it to and it does it well. Granted I know the newer phones take better pictures and that would be nice but it’s not worth $1,000+ to me. Maybe that and a completely bezelless screen would finally get me to upgrade.

**UNDERWHELMING**

Apple hasn't wowed me in a few years now... Still waiting for something worthwhile from Apple. Miss Steve 😥
I would agree with you 100%. This isnt the same company that totally turned the computing world upside down with the release of the first iPhone, iMac and iPod. They totally changed the handheld and computing industry. But I have to give it to them, they created an echo system that makes people want to stay. They dont have to rush out the innovative products anymore, they can slowly release minor updates. Can't argue with there business plan, biggest cash heavy company in the world. But if they dont innovate it could catch up to them. Blackberry became complacent, look what happened to them.

A gentle reminder that Blackberry and Nokia made phones. Apple has several different products in their portfolio.

All of which are stale and in need of major design upgrades.

The 11 year old iMac design for one. Should have redesigned it at least twice in that period.

Apple has indeed turned into the big brother of the 1984 adverts. All they care about now is milking the customers dry.

Product design is probably last on the list when it comes to new products.

Apple have a value problem coming up. Historically, there has been a strong fanbase who would update annually. There is so little in these new products that if you have an AW4 or even an AW3 there is no justification in getting the newest devices. The small bumps (even collectively) don't add up to the cost of a new watch less whatever resale you get for the old one.

Still sitting here with my Gen 2 iPad Pro, Apple Watch 2, iPhone 8, and MacBook Pro 2018, and wonder what the fuss is all about for this newfangled stuff.

Would love to get something new, and I have the money. Blackberry — er — Apple just doesn’t invent cool new things any more...

Plethysmograph-based pulse and pulse oximetry have been around since at least the 1960s. Personally, I don't consider adding that to a watch "innovation." It's a feature, not a 2007 iPhone or a "10,000 songs in your pocket." I'm ok if you want to call that innovation, we just have different thresholds. No biggie.

Oximetry likely was a feature on Apple's Watch roadmap right from the beginning, as was pulse measurement, which came out sooner, but Apple chose to roll out the oximetry function later rather than sooner. Not a big deal. I'd be shocked if there weren't excellent reasons for doing so.

When I use the Watch fitness app, it starts as soon as I touch the Start button on the screen.

7 Minutes means you have 53 minutes of missed footage. Might as well watch the whole thing. It was a decent event, but the first half of it was really boring. Also, all this talk about Prosser and Iphones and TV's and none of that came to fruition today. I did like the New Ipad though, and I'm tempted to update my 2015 Ipad pro for the new one. If they bring Touch ID back to the Iphone, I might get the new Iphone as well.
