I miss the old Apple. The one that wasn't scared to try new things and blaze new trails. Granted, there's not much new you can do these days. But all of these minor updates every year is just tired and boring. I don't expect a new phone or tablet design at this point but I would like to see better internals beyond a simple new processor - which NEVER makes that big of a difference in every day performance. What about extended battery life - especially when using the camera, or better audio for calls and music? Something radically new and different with iOS and Mac OS which hasn't materially changed in 8 yrs. How about going with wireless charging and getting rid of the stupid Lightening cable that breaks with minimal use or at the very least changing it so that it DOESN'T break easily. Every yr, there's a tweak here or there, but nothing done in one fail swoop that you know they could do NOW and probably better than Android implements stuff.

Seeing the usual suspects moaning like this reminds me of reading MacRumors from when Apple was going to die when they released the first iPhone (any, actually), the iPad and the iPod.

Clearly they have a home run in their hands.

For the poorly uninformed saying that Apple is "behind", are they behind at what? With these 7 devices they look to be way ahead on pretty much anything, from software to almost everything hardware-related. Everything.

I have to admit; I am pursuing moving back to Microsoft hardware and software; the past years they are blowing Apple away

That's exactly what I did. Moved back into building my own gaming PC. Cheaper, and more powerful. Simple as that. After looking at rumors of the new MacBook Pro, the touch bar reminded me of the 2014 Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which was an utter disaster in my opinion. Lack of hardware updates to the Mac made me think they have been too focused on Apple Watch and iPhone. Seriously, I now regret saying that Mac's were better than PCs several years ago.

What a nightmare!

If Steve Jobs was still alive we would still have a headphone jack.

Not a chance. Steve loved to cut things. This will all be a storm in a teacup in a year when everyone cuts their jacks and moves to wireless. Bring on a wireless world. I hate cords. On everything.

I find many of the internals of iPhones fascinating. The A10 is bleeding edge and perfectly equipped for a mobile device; Apple’s A chips are the envy of other smartphone manufacturers. Apple promised that the quad-core chip with two energy-efficient cores would improve battery life by up to 2 hours, with future potential for additional optimisations. This is the kind of technological advancement that I want, not just meaningless CPU-performance improvements. Same with the audio. Apple finally added stereo speakers as they did away with the audio connector. There are also lots of tiny changes that Apple doesn’t always disclose or explain at keynotes. Take Apple’s Secure Element chip or Motion co-processor. Apple is levering the benefits of that technology directly to add features that Android phones might have had for longer, but were almost always inefficient software implementations. Apple is also using things that you only find out due to obscure technical notes. For instance, I recently learned that Apple uses custom flash memory to fuse hardware and software together, in this case to provide a robuster solution for disk encryption. Apple doesn’t do this for Macs.

The iPhone is doing fine, although the display (rumoured for next year) and storage (although better) are indeed still disappointing and the insistence on the proprietary Lightning connector is almost infuriating. But when you compare the level of technological advances on iPhones to Macs, then the whole picture becomes utterly depressing for the latter.

It's amazing how vast majority of commenters on MacRumors now are so negative towards Apple. Why don't you guys go troll android forums or something?

I'm not saying we should blindly praise Apple, but I mean come on...

It wasn't always this way... And that's a good thing. It shows even pretty die hard fanboys have their limits on mediocre product announcements. Apple is testing the loyalty of their fans at this point with boring product releases that are already behind the curve.

Behind AMOLED quad hd, wireless charging, bezelless display, VR capability,

And a cpu/gpu that can drive none of these without lagging or being slower than last year's iPhone

a file system,

This is how you spot someone that doesn't know what they're talking about.

Don't forget sBomb technology. It'll take Apple years to catch up on that one.

I believe Steve also loved to listen to music. If you have a love for music, I don't think you would remove the headphone jack. I just don't think Cook is a big music listener, so he doesn't get it.

Engadget is reporting the hepatic home button feels weird, kinda backing up the observations from Verge:

"Man, that new Home button is weird. iPhone newcomers won't have any trouble adapting to the change, but it feels almost jarring to someone who has used iPhones pretty regularly since the 4's launch in 2010. It works like force-pressing one of Apple's new Macbook trackpads, but it doesn't really feel like it -- you'll feel a blip from the phone's Taptic Engine instead of feeling the button depress like you're using a 3D Touch gesture on the screen."

Because now you can't listen to music on the iphone  I honestly wonder about the sanity of some MR posters

why didnt they get rid of the charging port also by including wireless charging eh? but wait... that's for iphone 8! make room for internals.. first headphone, next charging port. it will then truly be all wireless device. no holes.

Some people here or somewhere else are ridiculous of negativity.

You have the best video game designer on stage, Miyamoto. You have the best SOC on the market, the A10. You have the best wireless earbuds, finally, after years of expectations and dreams (I'll buy them day one). You have the most proven design, the iPhone, now water resistant. You've got the best wearable on the market, the Apple Watch, improved with better chip, better battery, GPS, and a great watchOS 3.

This is terrific news. Only thing disappointing is the price, but it's Apple (= no surprise) and it's well crafted stuff.

From an innovation pov, they could easily move to a 2 year product cycle.

However, they are a listed company and the stock market demands a 1 year revenue cycle, so minor innovation with lots of marketing to drive revenue becomes the name of the game.

This is the reason why Dell went from a public, back to a private company. So that long term innovation and strategy prevail vs short term quarterly results.

Yeah, the Lightning port would be next on the chopping block if Apple continued the water/dust resistant trend. I would be surprised if it happened with next year's iPhone 8, but you never know. I think it's more likely to happen with the iPhone 9. Next year it will be the home button's turn to go away with maybe the debut of wireless charging to prepare us for this port-free world.

removing that 64gb option is another artificial way of convincing consumers to spend that $100 to buy higher model. same thing repeated.
How? If they kept the 64GB and they bumped the 16GB to 32GB (like they did), you would still have to pay $100 for more storage. I'm glad I get 64GB more for the sake $100 I wouldve spent
