That was probably the MOST lackluster Mac OS in recent years. Most the stuff shown was just iOS features ported over to the Mac. Give us more Homekit control, a cleaner Finder, or new features that take advantage of the M1.

iPad OS 15 only showed that buying an M1 iPad Pro is a waste of money. The 2018 model is still very capable. Would have been nice if they announced that they raised the RAM cap so developers could make more power hungry games or apps to make full use of the m1 chip. In all, it was a very disappointing event minus the new Safari.

Good information, now back to my 2019 Macbook Pro 32gb ram, with my 3080TI card with a razor EGPU box, boot camp windows 10 and a Samsung 240hz monitor and a 4TB thunderbolt 3 SSD drive all working perfectly.

One of the most boring WWDCs I’ve ever seen. My favorite is and will probably always be: <3

Man…I miss iOS 7. The version they demo’d was the best. As the betas iterated the design reverted back and regressed IMO.
Control Center looked so clean with the parallax effects too.

Agreed. I actually started watching through that a bit - thanks for the link. Their opening video was so well done. It's been a while to see something so nicely done.

MR's 9 minute overview was well put together (quick editing!)
I watched the live presentation for an hour and finally switched off (well, it was 3am). Some of the features do look nice, but not sure how it can be called iOS 15.

that was a pretty low featured keynote due to COVID-19 i guess

The iPad new multitasking looks great, way way better, the iPhone new notifications redesign is nice... all the other feature are like stability and groundwork, that is a good thing (like the health app that's keeps getting better and better) but it doesn't have the wow effect.

personally, i just wanted those 3D big Sur icons and depth and shadows on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS... had enough with that flat design.

I think that was the worst WWDC keynote I've seen.

There was no talk at all about underlying technologies and where the platform languages are headed.

No roadmap, if they have one.

It might as well have just been another "special event" for software because everything they announced were what most people would consider applications, except with Apple new applications come with new operating systems.

I, like others, was underwhelmed by the event today and disappointed in the lack of new hardware.

However, as I pondered everything and tried to think positive thoughts, I began to realize how thankful I am for the existence of MacRumors.

At the risk of sounded like a major bootlicker, in all seriousness I honestly do appreciate the fact that MacRumors gives us all a place to converse and to yes---even to vent a bit when we are disappointed. Much better than having a lot more pent-up frustration in the world.

True that if MacRumors didn't exist, another entity would likely try to take its place. However, I doubt if they could do as good of a job. I appreciate having it as my home page in my browser and basically automatically be able to keep up with all things Apple (and then some) on a daily basis every time I pop open Safari.

Big thanks to Dan and the MR staff for what probably at times seems like a thankless job.

You truly are appreciated.
The event was pretty lackluster, with very little of substance or interest. hopefully new hardware is still coming soon.

BTW, no one creates content for MR or any other monetized website as a labor of love. The job is to deliver eyeballs and clicks to advertisers, the thanks for that is $$.

That’s a format Apple should officially introduce “WWDC in 9 Minutes”, to save peoples precious life time from watching 2hs of marketing yada yada yada.

I watched a 23-minute recap from The Verge and that felt too long for this keynote. This 9-minute recap was okay.

Without a live in person “conference” why would people expect new hardware? Or even an in depth roadmap. Nobody is there for handson or an actual conference.

What they need is to bring back MacWorld Expo for an in person experience with M2 macs as soon as it’s feasible.

So we gonna just ignore that the spatial audio keynote or whatever didn’t happen? Still haven’t seen anything on Apple Music go live…
It kind of just happens. Turn your phone off and on. It should appear. You can change in settings and songs show a little lossless icon.

Lackluster event. Nothing major. The 9 minute summary video is great.

All the OS updates were minor little things.

A boring year coming for APPLE until new hardware is announced.

Next up!

BIG Windows 10 update happens this month on the 24th!

So far, I like the sound of coding on iPad and copying words from images. And I’m sure there are many more new features you’ll enjoy if you give it a chance.

Bit of a nothing update from Apple, some window dressing but no substantial or differentiating changes that would justify the premium cost. The new iPad OS is very thin gruel, a few tweaks and the rather pointless App Library. I don’t think a new Health App is going to encourage people to swap from Android and I am struggling to see anything else that would really justify paying 50% more for the privilege of being a captive in Apple’s magic garden. Mostly, this update makes it clear, if there was any doubt, that a vibrant open-sourced environment is far more likely to innovate than a cloistered corporate workspace. Apple feels increasingly fusty and dull, a make of fashion accessories for people with more money than sense rather than a tech company.

  • Facetime for non-Apple devices
  • Multiple timers on Watch
  • Low power mode on iPad
  • Widgets on iPad
  • Translate app for iPad
  • Using HomePod Minis as ATV speakers
  • Mobile Safari extensions
  • Screen Time API
  • TestFlight for Mac
I think the running theme for this year's WWDC is "Wait... You mean it didn't have that feature already?"

Meanwhile on Android… Yep! Still no Android 11 OTA for my Tab S5e. Cool cool cool, it’s only been 10 months since Android 11 was released (F that thing).

Apple updates: Wait. It didn't have that feature already?

Android updates: Wait. It's not going to get that feature after all.

Fortunately I had to head out to work after the first 30 minutes. What a relief to get to work 😂

This WWDC Cook walk-in with fake Devs Emojis applauding him has a very strong narcissistic touch.
It's about time for him to start a psychotherapy.
