I will admit, of all things released my biggest takeaways was the pretty lack lustre effort for the Vision Pro.
Given they are classing this as version 2, and not 1.something, I (and I suspect most) were expecting something a bit more hard hitting than a wider mac display and help for mapping apps to a surface.
Again, (not sure if anyone noticed) it was, to me very noticeable how Apple is showing this as a device for people at home on their own.
For a social family company, their lack of vision to involve the family is very jarring.

Also of course the iPad. Over the past weeks/months (and especially since the M4 iPad came out) everyone has been screaming about how amazing iPads are, but simply held back by what it basically a blown up iPhone OS.
I know many were expecting Apple to justify how good the hardware was by a major revamp for the OS, but instead we got a fancy calculator app and some menu bars.
Really Apple is this as far as your imagination for the iPad is able to go.
I think Vision Pro is starting to prove itself as a great product without a use case. All the podcasters I follow are admitting that they aren’t really using it much anymore. Intentionally or not, I think the main benefit for Apple of the Vision Pro is that it gets them a head start on whereever wearable computing goes. It won’t be a relevant platform for several years, just a curiosity.

I was multitasking so wasn’t fully paying attention, but I think the headline for this round of updates is customizability. I felt a lot of the announcements had to do with being able to personalize the UI. I’m sure Android users have started howling already that they have had this since the beginning. Nevertheless, it is a pretty substantial shift in Apple’s stance on UI personalization.

Good event. The intro was very nice. Some useful changes to all the software. Glad to see that calculator is finally available on iPad. Cannot wait to try out Apple Intelligence later this year.

A little underwhelmed really. Still lots of glitz, and whilst I would not go as far as Elon. Unless you think that the cloud is 100% secure, and your system is 100% secure, and your Broadband supplier is 100% secure, whilst privacy is stated, it actually increases the potential for wrongdoing. Personally I hope it is an option where you can turn AI off or on. If not, then our privacy looks suspect.

Understood. If we focus on names that reflect Apple's brand ethos and product philosophy while using "A" and "I," here are some alternatives:

1. **Apple Intelligence**: Directly tying the AI technology to the Apple brand.

2. **Adaptive Interface**: Highlighting the AI's role in enhancing user interaction with Apple products.

3. **Advanced Integration**: Reflecting how the AI seamlessly integrates across Apple's ecosystem.

4. **Apple Insight**: Emphasizing the AI's ability to provide deep, meaningful insights.

5. **Apple Innovate**: Showcasing the AI's role in driving innovation within Apple products.

These names maintain the "A" and "I" format while strongly associating with Apple's brand identity and values.
Thanks for ChatGPTing that for us.

What will new smarter siri mean for homepod? They mentioned numerous times that she's coming to ios, ipados and macos so does that mean she'll continue to be dumb as a brick on the device that she makes most sense in?
From what I understand, the new Siri is part of Apple Intelligence and will only be available for iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro), and the M series Macs and iPads.

HomePod (A8, S5, S7) users will be stuck with the less advanced Siri on the HomePod until they upgrade to future products.

I still like "Apple Intelligence."

For those of us professional users with M1 max and ultra studios, its pretty disappointing that we didn't even get a roadmap for the release of the next wave of pro-level macs. Why release an M4 chip in a tablet and leave all desktop pro-users with no idea when the next hardware upgrade is coming?

It's all feeling elitist... I mean is anyone without the disposable income to do so even considering an apple vision pro? I could really benefit from being able to plan hardware purchases for my video and animation business rather than being wowed by the novelties of apple vision pro.
Don't put too much effort on the Vision Pro, it still needs a decade. No need for M4 for pro's - M1 is more than enough for most.

This story is as old as the hills. It's the reason why as a former Mac Pro user, I just gave up and bought a PC. Apple will never change.

Anyone else thinks Apple Intelligence will be a subscription service, at least for some features? If not, I’m sure Tim considered it at some point.

Please do not use brick and HomePod together in a sentence, because upgrades such as you request are famous for bricking our HomePods ;~(

They clearly don't want to create a fourth distinct OS paradigm. MacOS isn't designed for touch input, so a modified iPhone OS it is (unfortunately). For the regular iPad - fine. But it will continue to limit the iPad Pro.

In some fields it is relevant now. As expected, mass consumer adoption will indeed be years yet. But hella more than just a curiosity to a lot of professionals.

I love that as a non-US/English user, we only get a fraction of these features. Here is a list of what we don't get:

  • Apple Intelligence
  • Messages via satellite (at least it says "in the United States")
  • Mail categorization
  • All new Safari features (Highlights and the new Reader)
  • Topographic maps
  • Tap to Cash
  • Live audio transcription in Notes (but the phone call transcription is available in other languages? Make it make sense)
  • Homekit electricity use

I wonder whether so-called Apple Intelligence will become pro-exclusive. I want Apple Intelligence on iPad mini🥺
No need to wonder, the on-device functionality is limited to M-series iPads.

I think way too many people are excited about this update but once you look at it with a clear head and fresh eyes, its utter trash.

Disgusting vomit inducing gradient icons, the press image is vile and I can't believe they used it. I've already seen loads of people revert back to normal icons on twitter because it's so ugly and stupid compared to Pixels version.

Messy control centre with android style fragmentation of shapes.

but but but I can place an icon anywhere....

WatchOS and iPadOS were non existent but well done on selling M4 iPads to fools.

AI, the real kicker, Siri is going to divert you to chatgpt ALL THE TIME because its trash and I don't believe for a second its as improved as they say.

waiting lists for AI beta, iPhone 15 is trash just 7 months later because Apple had no vision or awareness to put 8GB RAM in them which is required for on device AI.

They'll pretend it's about the A17 chip but anyone with a brain knows it's a RAM issue and they've always been cheap snides on RAM. this tells me they were never going to give us AI this year and felt pressured by gemini on android.

Tim out, greeg out, Jeff out and hire some actually designers again and stop chasing Emmys, failed cars and failed stupid headsets.

You guys missed the highlight of the show..

Craig Federighi’s hair. It was awesome. But we still don’t know how much of it is real and how much of it is Apple Silicon. Be good to see that floppy hair outside of an Apple promotional feature.

iPadOS 18 is really a slap in the face. There are basically zero new iPad exclusive features (Math Notes are on iPhone, too) and existing features got no updates (Stage Manager, Files App, no Journals App...) The iPadOS 18 preview page on Apple.com is the saddest preview ever. If you see they list a little UI tweak (redesigned tab bar) as a big feature on the page, you know they got nothing.

Do you already plan on buying new macs when you just bought a M1max/studio a few years ago? I think apple is not expecting that people already want new machines when they have the m1. But also the waiting for info keeps them customers eager and hightens the focus on Apple 😅

WWDC is a developers' conference, so it's typically more focussed on software. Hardware announcements, especially big ones, are usually rolled out at their own separate events.

Lots of good changes, but I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed.

And ...

Enough of Phil Schiller. In his acting persona, he over annunciates, seems like a phony and comes across like a used car salesperson who would say anything. "Personal Context" was my favorite phrase of the day. It was repeated often enough that I wanted to vomit.
