This was by far the cheesiest presentation from Apple in a long time. The updates to tier 2 Macs and taking the iPad to new levels (cost) could hardly be deemed exciting. Phil was a voiceover and the new kids on the block did the splaining. The most fascinating aspect of the show was the Adobe presentation. Very Cool.

I couldn't help being reminded of NASA after the first couple lunar landings ... faster, better science, better moon buggies, and the people yawned. Apple is in a tough spot in that the devices from 5 years ago still work fairly well and if it wasn't for file size and graphic content, that we could probably live without, we would probably function for another 3 or more.

The mindless cheering from the balcony seemed silly. Did a light bulb go on to prod the applause for the recycled aluminum content of the devices?

No laptop for me until the keyboards go back to how they were in 2012.

You will be waiting forever. There will be 4th and 5th generations of the butterfly keyboard but Apple has made it pretty damn clear they’re not going back. If not then they would have scrapped the butterfly keyboard on the 2018 MBP.

If you haven’t tried out the 3rd gen keyboard I suggest you do. I have and like the 2nd gen keyboard and I think the 3rd is fantastic. It is even more stable, quieter and allows for excellent typing speeds due to its very low profile. There is also very little backlight bleed which makes it look much better than the old retina MBP and MBA keyboards with light bleeding all over the place.

Maybe you can find some really great indie tech that can put the new MBP guts into the old chassis somehow someway. I’m sure something like this would be possible but it would take lots of skill, trial and error and the hands of an angel.

They seemed to cheer really loudly for the iPad Pro right after the short unveiling spot. That seemed to be the hit of the event. Beautiful wallpaper as well. Shame they’re not in the 12.1 firmware for iPhone. I would love to have those. Apple has made some great wallpaper for these keynotes and betas that get scrapped before the final release.

The iMac didn’t get updated today because the Mac Mini did. As has been the problem with the last few Mini models once you start pumping it up even a little it starts to look like a poor value against the iMac. It’s been that way ever since it went up from 499. The Mini does have a very specific following, but they would also like to sell plenty casually I’m sure.

Personally I’d expect a quiet iMac spec bump in a couple weeks - otherwise early 2019.

Is the mac mini RAM soldered in again, or are they finally going to allow one to upgrade RAM at will?

Ok, this is the last drop, how dare you??? Upgradable RAM is God's forbidden, FFS. Maybe you want upgradable CPU or GPU????!!! Be thankful for generous option of plugging flash drive of your choice! And even connecting some BT devices. That's all you can get for this tiny price.

Who cares about functionality or convenience when you getting new emojeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Remember the biggest audience cheer at an event for a Retina Macbook Air, Mac mini upgrade plus all new iPad Pro & pencil was for *drum roll.. "100% recycled aluminum" *symbal bang.

The MacBook Air does _not_ have a "Liquid" Retina display, although it should have got that! The Liquid Retina display is reserved for the iPhone XR and iPad Pro with rounded screen corners. No idea why Apple didn't bring this to the Mac, too. It would have been a perfect new design characteristic!

why wasn't 2018 the end of lightning ? All the new iphones and ipads were all being developed around the same time. Couldn't they all be on the same page with USB-C ? The Xr just came out and has lightning, yet the new iPad Pro which is just coming out does not. What is the defense for this?

What is the defence _for_ USB-C everywhere? Lightning is still a very good connector. There's nothing USB-C brings to the table technology-wise, is there?

Finally a Mac Mini refresh. I'll be picking one up, but not till the new year most likely (unless somewhere puts on a crazy sale) I have wanted to replace my media centre PC for a long time, and with this we will finally move totally to a Mac household (my current media centre PC is my old gaming PC).

Sad that there was no iPad mini, as my wife's old one is in dire need of replacement (she has a 2nd gen one, still kicking).

I love the look of the new iPad Pro's and Apple Pencil, but don't see need to upgrade the 12.9 inch I got 12 months ago just yet (unless I can do some trading with my provider and come out paying less over the next 12 months). EDIT which I did, traded in, got a new phone for my wife, new iPad for me, changed data allowance for my phone and came out spending nearly $100/month less

Thanks for your impressions on the 3rd generation keyboard. I would really like what you're saying to be true. I have been planning an exit strategy to Windows over the keyboard situation primarily. I'm having a hard time with the raising of prices, and the need for AppleCare on top of that. But when you use the keyboard constantly at 90+ wpm, thinking that it could break at any moment would be distracting. I hope they made them durable like on my 2015 MBP.

Watches press conference in anticipation of a new iMac refresh to replace 2011 iMac.....goes to Amazon to build 8700k Hackintosh.

The made a point of saying it takes SO-DIMMS, mentioning how that would make some customers happy - I suppose they could have soldered those in, but that'd be pretty major trolling.

I think I'm going to have to start looking for another brand. I can piece together way stronger builds for significantly less money. Apple just seems to be getting greedier and greedier with every year. Wouldn't 100% recycled aluminum be cheaper to use than mined aluminum? Do they really have a person pouring aluminum to make each frame of the MacBook Air? Then why show that image? Just seems to me like they're pushing propaganda to make it seem like we're getting some better aluminum frame when in fact its about cheapening the cost of production.

I was really happy with today's announcements - an iPad Pro with FaceID is exactly what I have been waiting for since the iPhone X, I have a first gen iPad Pro and skipped the last iPad Pro update waiting for exactly what they revealed today.

I can see especially how FaceID makes the iPad be really how they intended, a system you can hold any way around. I am not sure but I think the Pencil even clamps to any edge, and having it hold and charge at the same time is way nicer than the old pencil arrangement where you had to plug it in.

Although I'm not going to get one just yet the Mac mini refresh was excellent, if I had not already bought an iMac Pro I would get a maxxed out Mac mini and eGPU box.

Ugh okay... Little confusing now.
Added TouchID to the Mac? So must be sticking around for a while. Why not just skip it and go to FaceID?
The ports... Now even more confusing!! iPad Pro with USB C? Good move but why not do that for the iPhone Xs as well?

Pricing yet again another problem! Huge price increase in Mac Mini, Air and iPad Pro... Not ideal at all.

Apple has totally lost it. It it now 10 years since they released a competitive computer. They are about to do the same mistake as they did with the OS9 mac's. But Im not even sure that they want the mac to prosper, everything they do point to they want their users to move to their IOS devices.
