totally agree, iMac and iMac pro now feel like the old mac mini, so far left behind at a top end price, where are the latest processors, where is face id for iMac? where is a real grunty GPU, not some cut down rubbish from a laptop?

I have a 5 year old iMac, but I won't upgrade it, until such time as there is a real reason to move to it ! At the moment , Apple has left its iMac range to collect dust.

Wow, it's been whole year and five months since the last iMac refresh. Such a loooooooong time!!!! My 2017 27" iMac Retina 5K barely functions at this point. I sure wish I could get a newer model, so that I could have a better web surfing experience :)

why wasn't 2018 the end of lightning ? All the new iphones and ipads were all being developed around the same time. Couldn't they all be on the same page with USB-C ? The Xr just came out and has lightning, yet the new iPad Pro which is just coming out does not. What is the defense for this?

Maybe they are still working through their lightning connector inventory? :)

I do hope they transition everything to USB-C. With the ability for Thunderbolt 3 plus power delivery to be passed through, it really is the best universal port.

I agree on that. I personally like to carry around my notebook everywhere i can and when i'm at home i want to connect it to a bigger display.
I'm a little bit suprised. Seems like i'm the only one looking forward to a new Apple Pro Display. IMacs are great but nothing to carry around. I'm pretty sure Apple thought when they stopped working on Displays that other manufactors would step in and fill the gap. Don't get me wrong the Panel of the LG UltraFine is good but the design is years behind (proportions and hideous top bezel). I'm suprised Apple is still showing them in the presentation as a connected device. LG is doing great in the TV Market but that monitor is nothing for me (using one at work and a thunderbolt display at home). Apple does make imo exceptionally good displays. Or at least they care about it and let others do great work for them. As an industrial designer myself i just cannot understand why they even stopped working on it. The display is something apple cared about from the beginning. It's part of their design legacy. I find it obvious, that a screen is important. It's the thing we look at. Everyone is trying to get rid of other distractions. Just more screen for showing and interacting. A lifelike experience. Products and hardware parts are getting smaller. For me the future is just cramped working power and a high end display. Maybe even for the go as a thin sheet or foldable. Anyway a display should always be a main factor and one of the 2 main components a manufacture should care about in my opinion. Good to know they are working on one. I'm pretty sure I'll buy one or even more when they're out. And another thing to add. Old apple displays are still selling well. I can see their next stand-alone display sellling really well for many years. Windows user will use them and they would be awesome to pair with new Mac Pros and the mac mini. Or every other small device supporting the resolution.

You’re not the only one! Ever since I was a teen I lusted over Apple’s displays. I remember seeing the trailer for The Matrix on a 24” or so Apple display at CompUSA back in ‘99 and I was blown away. It was just too much money for a 14yr old back then lol!

The second they announce a 30” Cinema Display with thin bezels I’m in for one or two!

Can you change your RAMs for the Mac mini?

Yes you can! NVMe is soldered though but RAM is upgradable. Now I don’t know if it requires some sort of T2 reset. Apple recommends getting it done through an ASP but unless the T2 makes doing it yourself a problem I don’t see why you can’t.

Wait for the ifixit tear down. Should be available very soon!

ok buy an iPad if that's all you do, some of us do much more than your basic functions

Apple has totally lost it. It it now 10 years since they released a competitive computer. They are about to do the same mistake as they did with the OS9 mac's. But Im not even sure that they want the mac to prosper, everything they do point to they want their users to move to their IOS devices.

I've been saying this for a long time now. The money is with iOS. Every app that is sold (even for $0) gets money into the pockets of Apple whereas it is still possible to write a macOS app, and give it to people without Apple getting a cent from it.

How does one relate to the other?

The justification for removing the headphone jack was that it was preventing them from making the device thinner, yet they're happy for the camera lens to protrude. Perhaps Apple should have just had two bumps; One for the lens and one for the headphone jack.

Perhaps the removal of the headphone jack was not in the quest for thinness but rather the quest to remove the analog hole in the end to end delivery of digital (and perhaps DRM'd) content.

Was that really it? I recall that aside from just plain "courage" that it likely was more related to making room for the Taptic Engine essentially.

I watched the whole thing expecting a new announcement for upgraded iMac. Not to be. The fanboys/girls in the audience clapping at everything Tim Cook said was disturbing to say the least where it almost seemed that if Cook farted they would had all been doing backflips.

Haha, I'd love for that to be the answer to the removal of the jack. Let me grab some blank tapes so I can duplicate my streamed music.

If you're going to cassette tape, you may as well hold your phone up to the microphone. Ha. But if you've got decent hardware, and are not an obsessive audiophile, using a computer connected to a phone via a decent quality cable, you'll be hard pressed to hear a difference between the original and the copy. That is unless you receive phone calls or messages while recording.

They probably didn't bank on USB-C being so ubiquitous and thought Lightning would be successful. Lightning is Apple's BetaMax.
