i was really hoping they'd release a non-numerical Space Grey keyboard to go with the Mac mini and that I could use for the iMac Pro - I hate the numerical keyboard, it's too big to fit all the control options I want on my desk.

Apple didn't even try to supplement the weak Intel GPUs with discrete graphics. Over the past ten years discrete, switching graphics have only caused trouble with reliability.

I need an iPad mini because its size means it can go everywhere I go, and any moment I have a minute of free time, the display is just large enough to sketch and do some graphics or spreadsheet work on. An iPhone is too small, and the next size iPad Pro is too big to be tucked into a jacket pocket or back pants pocket. The mini is the right size, it’s just running on a what 4 year old chipset & is woefully lacking pencil support. To hear Apple describe it as the budget iPad indicates they don’t even understand its strengths any better than the people who mistakenly assume an iPhone is a capable replacement for it, or that it’s the most popular iPad because it’s cheap. There are already cheap iPads. We don’t need it to be cheap, we need it to be capable.

Give it newer chips, and pencil support, sell a trillion of them.

You really are right. People really underestimate the convenience of the Mini. It's super handy to have in your bag for when you don't want to carry the 13" iPad around with you. If they added pencil support (even the first gen pencil) it would do wonders for the device.

Hopefully they sneak in a quiet speedy bump of the iMac in November when the mbp graphics come out. If that doesn’t happen, then at least March but possibly till June imo. Ridiculous; this extended wait hopefully is worth it for some really good upgrades or redesign ; lose the chin, smaller bezels , 6+ cores and 12GB graphics custom option

The rumors of a display enhanced performance; well if that means refresh rate- good, if they add in True Tone or some other stupid junk then wow.

This isn’t the first time Apple leaves the iMac high and dry

Also missing is the brand new Apple Thunderbolt 3 display. Not only for Mac Pro, but also for Mac mini.

And wired keyboard and wired mouse. We are destroying planet Earth and nobody seems to care. Wireless charging is a waste of energy. Wired whatever is much better than wireless whenever possible for anything, including also keyboards and mice. Batteries are obnoxious to the environment, besides much less convenient (for instance, less responsive) and a pain to recharge routinely.

Wires are obnoxious and out dated. Wireless is better. I’m probably one of the few who wasn’t throwing a fit at Apple when they took headphone jacks away.

I really wish they would bring back the leather full body covers the used to have....
They are not made to last, my iPhone one fell apart and my iPad one, I have to be careful the iPad does not pop out because it splits at the mute button - it is too weak at that point. I'm thinking of putting some double sided tape behind it so that I don't have to worry. Just have to work out the right balance between keeping it in and being able to remove it.

Both wireless and wired have their benefits, it all comes down to use case. A wire on a keyboard is no big deal, but more so on a mouse.

I had to bin a trackpad because I couldn't get the end cap off, it was screwed in solid, which wouldn't have happened on a wired one.

The iPad mini 5 could have saved costs by using the iPad 1/2/3 chassis, but it would have disappointed quite a few people. I think the iPad mini is more important than Apple realizes, but I don’t run things.

The 12” MacBook can drift away and I would never miss it. I tried to like it, but it is just not my jam. I acknowledge that others may really like it. It could be salvaged, if Apple wanted to, but I think it got its walking papers today.

The 17” MacBook Pro is a favorite of mine and while I think the tech necessary has caught up to make a 17” Retina MacBook Pro possible, Apple has zero will to do it. If they did it right and made it adequately sized to stay cool and thick enough...it could be a great, truly Pro machine. Apple has no interest in making this product. Too bad.

I’m not an iPad guy but I have heard from people in different professions how useful a Mini is due to its size for work.

Their entire lineup is a confusing ******** under Cook. It should be a ‘small medium large’ with the latest chips. Not a mismatch of different generation stuff being sold side by side.
It gives the impression that Apple is a bit of a confused mess.

I'm still kind of disappointed in the lack of update for the iMac. I wanted to buy that this year, hoping for an 9th gen i9 designed around all NVME.
I’m sure the lack of an update yesterday signals a design refresh next year—removal of the chin?

Why? Because they didn’t release it when YOU wanted them to? Get over it
A joke because they didn’t release it when THEY said they’d release it.

Unless they drop it before 1-1-19

I find it sad that $1200 is considered 'budget' for a notebook, especially one thats made from scrap and low-end components.
Considering the engineering behind all MacBooks, and that if you treat them well you can get 5-7 years out of them for non pro use.... a cost of less then a dollar a day is pretty budget friendly.

iMac Pro equals no iMac. Mac Mini will replace the iMac basic. Offers more flexibility then an iMac, the iMac Pro meets the needs of All iMac users with the option of the Mac Mini to fill in the product line. Will see how it goes.

Lol, no way they are cancelling the regular iMac.

AirPower and AirPods

There was some speculation that Apple could still debut the AirPower charging mat and compatible AirPods at its October event, but that didn't happen.

We have no idea when we might expect to see the AirPower launch, if it is indeed still in the works, nor when Apple will launch updated AirPods. At this point, it looks like we may not see these products until sometime in 2019.

"AirPower" LOL.

Disappointed not to see a Mac Pro sneak peak. Yes, it's a 2019 product but that wouldn't necessarily preclude a view of what's coming.

Without knowing what the Mac Pro will offer, it makes buying one of those new Mac Minis doubtful for me. I like the look of the new machine, but until I know what the full line up will comprise of I'll be playing a waiting game. When it comes to Mac updates, it feels like I've been doing that for most of the last decade.

As a well paid Engineering Manager in the computer hardware sector, I really struggle to justify paying these prices. My daughter just bricked her MBP, and I think the replacement may not be Apple - which is a shame. The entry level solutions will not have longevity, (8GB and 128GB MBP ??) and the upgrades are even more extortionate ..... and that's before they charge £:1 at 1:1

My uneducated guesses at these products are:

iMac - speed bump only, Apple will just refresh the product line in another week or two.
iPad Mini - selling through stock this holiday season. It will either be discontinued or hang out like the iPod Touch.
MacBook - sit steady until Spring when they'll be a broader notebook refresh going into back to school promos.
AirPower - who the heck knows
AirPods - refresh in the Spring with slightly smaller form factor (less length on the Q-Tip).
MacPro - March (?)

Maybe they will have another event a week before Thanksgiving to announce the rest that didn't make it this week, in time for the holiday shopping.

Things Apple didn't announce in their presentation:
Anything useful at a reasonable price.
Seriously, a $4000.00 mac mini?!??!

Seriously, less than 1% of Minis will be sold with a maxed out configuration. The RAM is user upgradeable.

The Air is great. Going to buy to replace my wife's 2010 MacBook Pro. The Mini with 8gb and 512gb of storage is reasonably priced, I'm probably going to buy as the replacement for my dead iMac. It is going to be the cheapest Mac I've ever bought.

Agreed. The Mac Mini was conceived as an entry-level Mac for almost everybody, with a starting price of USD 499 back in the day. Now that a maxed-out Mini costs almost 5000 Euros, it just demonstrates how much Apple has lost contact with the normal world.

This whole "event" was completely grotesque -- people around their sixties were presenting products for teenagers and were being celebrated and applauded like rock stars. If this had been a scene from a movie, nobody would have bought or even watched it. It's just surreal.

Seemed clear that these things weren't going to happen today or at very least it was incredibly unlikely.

That's what the XR is. It replaced the SE. While there's a remote possibility they'd release one next year (not a chance in hell they'd announce one so close to the XR release and take the wind out of those sales), at this point it's almost certainly replaced the SE completely for good.

No I don't think so. The XR is HUGE!!!!!!!!!! It makes the XS look tiny & chic next to it. It's more the size of those vulgar Plus models. There is scope for a 5.1" XR but I guess it's whether LG will make that size of screen.
Wait and see for next year? Then we'll know if smaller sizes are truly gone. A bit vulgar if they are.
