I really hope that the weather app will also give the pollen count and what types of pollen are in the atmosphere. That’s something I have to check before I go out and is more important to me than the traffic alert. I really hope they don’t put that kind of information in the health app because those of us with iPads and no iPhone steal after all this time do not have the health app on our devices even though I am more prone to take my medicines at home so the phone is not obligatory.

I was pleasantly surprised with this upgrade with iOS 16. I usually rely on other weather apps instead of Apple's.

This thread is very premature, like many threads in the last couple of weeks? The features of any app/feature in iOS16 is speculative at this point. It is in Beta stage atm, and RC isn't even out.

The article should state “Everything new in the iOS 16 Beta weather app” or similar.

Features have been pulled last second, even products have been pulled last second in the past. This article makes it seem like its all confirmed. #MacRumorsCrystalBall

Why is no one mentioning the elephant in the room? There is one weather app feature that I can't do without, and I can't believe Apple's app still doesn't have.

Weather Radar

Until it includes a weather radar, the app will remain woefully incomplete.

I’m genuinely psyched for this. I’m a totally normal person from the outside, but inside I’m a weather-junkie, so I love that Apple is building up their Weather app.

Almost can’t wait to have the dynamic weather Lock Screen.

I love technology!

You mean a radar map? Look under the "Precipitation" section; is that what you're looking for?

I still use Dark Sky for the radar map, but I assumed it was only a matter of time before that made it into the default Weather app. Kind of surprised it took so long though.

Dark Sky is still my app for weather. Weather Strip is also superb (I highly recommend it).
I've been using Dark Sky for years, but the radar has always left me frustrated. The future radar map always is problematic to load, never mind the unusual color scheme. Always used AccuWeather for radar only, but now that they are peppering me with ads, looks like I'll just go to the default iOS app.

It wasn't mentioned because this article is solely about iOS.
Ofc they should have at least mentioned it (the new support for MacOS Ventura) just like they also mentioned the brand new iPadOS version also being introduced at the end of the article.

The weather app finally now being truly multi-platform across the whole Apple ecosystem with the same look ‘n feel is a great capability for many iOS users.

As long as it corrects that stupid iPadOS change where the weather ‘app’ is merely a hot-link to weather.com I don’t care what new features it has lol.

just FYi, for the curious, weather.com doesn’t like anyone using an adblocker (at least, not Adblock +)

I wish weather data in Canada was better. We've got the official Weather Canada app, but I find it's often not that accurate and I'm pretty close to one of the weather stations. I've heard there's Weather Canada pilot data that's better because it's updated way more frequently, but I have no idea how to access it.

The weather app as it stands is far too strict. Even if there are just a few drops of rain, it shows rain for that day. It needs a better system for showing the basic weather for that day. Hopefully this new weather App fixes that.

I like this new app a lot, yet another reason I'm going to install iOS 16 on day one.
Of all the changes in iOS 16, Weather and Maps are the ones I’m most looking forward too. I’m holding off on installing to hopefully avoid some bugs but I’ll join the fold eventually.

Is there anything here for those not in America - ie. the use of local Bureau of meteorology sources, so that, you know, the weather App can accurately perform its main function?……

Speaking on behalf of Australians who never get accurate weather via this App, nor Google’s weather predictor.
All I want is accuracy. And the weather app is crap in Australia.

Currently, where I am.
Weather App 10°
Actual Temp 11.4° (Official Bureau if Meteorology)
I've found the Weather app can be 3 or 4° out regularly. It’s not good enough Apple.

I don’t care about the predictions, but actual weather is what I want. Weather is using "best-ish guess". Use the countries offical (accurate) weather please.

If you haven’t done so already I suggest you and your friends/family Submit Weather app feedback to Apple.

Maybe they will listen.

They pull data from loads of different sources worldwide (check the source list at the very bottom of the Weather app). The forecast accuracy in the latest iOS 16 beta still sucks, compared to iOS 15.6, not to mention more localised forecast apps. There is a significant number of complaints from people running iOS 16 beta and I have submitted feedback to Apple both from the Weather app and beta 16 Feedback app. I really hope they can fix it before it rolls out for everybody in a few weeks!

The current iOS 16 beta is totally fine to run and most 3rd party apps have caught up with it by now. The new Weather app looks great, no doubt, as for the forecasts accuracy - not quite there at the moment.

“Next-hour precipitation forecasts and precipitation notifications are available for Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.”

I’m assuming OP doesn’t live in one of the 3 locations that supports the feature.

I’m in Canada and don’t have precipitation or radar in the weather app (that I can see at least).

Thanks. Wow, they state the Australian bureau of meteorology (BOM) as one of their sources, but that can’t be right as the forecast never lines up with that of the BOM. I don’t get it…
