Finally, the wait is over and the 13 mini will get cheaper. Just one more year, and I‘ll be able to justify the expense.

Just out of interest, what do you use your phone for that makes you prefer a smaller form factor?
for me it‘s making calls, writing messages, online banking, navigation, grocery lists, reminders, home automation, listening to radio/audiobooks/music and the occasional photo or video when I don‘t have a proper camera with me. If I want to read something, edit photos, write forum posts (like this one), watch a video or do something semi-productive, I prefer the bigger formfactor of an ipad to a phone screen. I usually carry an ipad air in my backpack or man-purse for that. When I don‘t want to carry a bag, I want something that easily fits into a trouser pocket and is useable with one hand.

Sure, a lot of people want only one device that fits all needs, but imho it‘s too much of a compromise to pack all of that into a phablet.

Anyone think we will see a revamped or upgraded desktop iMac any time soon? Wondering whether to buy or wait...
I‘d wager that they‘ve already designed a bigger imac with „pro“ and „max“ cpus and will introduce it along the m2 MBPs. They‘d usually do that around october/november, but with the components-shortage of recent it could also slip to Q1\Q2 20023.

I feel no excitement this year 😭

Yep, I didn't feel excitement last year either. The only exciting thing Apple has done in the past years have been the move to Apple silicon for their computers but their phones and Apple watch have just been minor refresh on minor refresh.

Question. When the new Iphone 14’s are announced, will the old iPhone 13 pros be immediately discontinued? I’m thinking of upgrading and want the best deal. I’m thinking I need to upgrade now because I seem to recall the older pro’s being unavailable as soon as the new ones are announced. Thoughts? Thanks!
Yes, replaced immediately

I used my first Apple machine around the mid eighties, never looked back, even when others laughed at me and my so called toy! I've spent enough money on Apple products to run a small country. However, since around 2014/15 I never get that excited about announcements anymore. I'm not sure if that's age or just innovation has slowed....perhaps a bit of both.

Either way, it makes me feel a little sad.

Same for me. And I still have almost all the devices.

Consumer electronics have peaked. Nothing will compare with the iPod, MacBook Air, iPhone, iPad, and Watch reveals. Maybe an Apple Car or the scuba style AR glasses?

And I’d say our expectations are depleted, too, after decades of gadgetry from Apple and the denizens of CES. Most of the texh is simply disposable garbage and the older you get, the less you want to waste time on it.

I think I would rather take the almost 30% longer battery life in return for the extra 15 grams on the 13 pro.
In practical terms, neither lasted as long as I want them to. I always being a charger or power bank where I go, so I don’t feel that extra “30%” has benefitted me

The older I get the more money I choose to spend on tech 🤣 certainly couldn’t when I was younger and poorer. Haha

What? How is you receiving spam calls the phone’s fault?

Well yes it can be, that was a very good thing when I was running Android, I got no spam calls since they were blocked by just toggling a switch. Now when I am back with my iPhone Apple doesn't allow such things to monitor calls so they can't be blocked.

Sooo no more M2 Mac Mini for Oct? I’ll soon be retiring a 2012 iMac and although an M1 will be amazing by comparison, I’d hate to pull the trigger right before and M2 is announced.

This year we're THRILLED to announce a tremendous new price. This significant new feature provides us with so much more power, more capability, we can't wait to launch it and we're sure our users are gonna love it JUST as much as we do.

The one rumor that died off some time ago that got me interested in possibly upgrading was that of integrated satellite connectivity. Without that, I think I will cave this fall and finally get an Inreach Mini.
The sat connectivity was rumoured to only be like the SOS functionality of the Inreach Mini. The Mini still does a lot more, for now at least.

Haha. Yep. But that curve will drop off too.

Correlation != correlation. There’s been a distinct rise in spam calls over the past couple years, there’s been plenty of writeups on it, it’s likely less your android —> iphone update and more that rise in calls. Not discounting Apple could do more, but your problem is most likely not the different OS.

No that isn't the case, the Galaxy Fold 2 I used had an actual feature built in to not let spam calls ring that worked. I had spam calls with my iPhone before I got the fold, then had no spam calls at all for 6 months while I used Android and then got spam calls directly after and they have been continuing. When I tried to install something similar on iPhone it wanted to add loads of numbers to my adress book and such which needed to be updated regularly and also needed a paid subscription, not an elegant solution.

Saw that they released some new updates though and seem to get more permissions now so might try it out again, would rather it was built in though as it looks like I have to manually open the app to get updates to the database of numbers which should be done in the background.

The only feature that will interest me is a true pro upgrade of USB-C / Thunderbolt to replace the robust, but slow Lightning connector.

The media this device can create, or work with (Pulling directly off my mirrorless cameras) make the current IO just poor.

If IO doesn't change, not looking to move away from my 13 Pro.

I use mine as a mobile device for use on the go, for times when you don't have or want to use a second hand: when you're walking down the sidewalk, riding the subway with a hand on the pole, when you want something that actually fits in your pocket. Giant phones only make sense if you're just using it on the couch all day long.
