Am I so far off in my own world to wish for FM radio capability in a phone? Using Safari to listen to my favorite radio stations often, is okay except for drains the battery heavily. Seems like such a simple thing to be added. But perhaps there’s just too little demand. : /

The only feature that will interest me is a true pro upgrade of USB-C / Thunderbolt to replace the robust, but slow Lightning connector.

The media this device can create, or work with (Pulling directly off my mirrorless cameras) make the current IO just poor.

If IO doesn't change, not looking to move away from my 13 Pro.
So, one thing I didn’t appreciate until getting a new Apple Watch six two years ago: the small incremental upgrades makes the FOMO much less prominent.

Same with the Pro it seems, and why you not upgrading makes perfect sense. The 13 pro is amazing, and no need to upgrade, and I’m sure you feel very good about your purchase in that it will be a very capable device for many, many years.

I used my first Apple machine around the mid eighties, never looked back, even when others laughed at me and my so called toy! I've spent enough money on Apple products to run a small country. However, since around 2014/15 I never get that excited about announcements anymore. I'm not sure if that's age or just innovation has slowed....perhaps a bit of both.

Either way, it makes me feel a little sad.
Same here... Don't think it's age either. They decimated the ecosystem they used to have and it's "seems" to be more about the dollars. Apple Monitor, Time Machine, Routers, and a few other things. I remember when...IT JUST WORKS, was a real thing. 😢

Just out of interest, what do you use your phone for that makes you prefer a smaller form factor?
You should go back and read all the comments here (if it’s still available) about how the Samsung Note was stupid because no one needs a phone that big. You’ll find all sorts of reasons.

I think that would be really cool too, and the hardware IS actually capable of it - there’s just nothing in software written to “tune in” to these stations. But again, there’s the issue of demand - we are in the minority if we care about such a thing. And apple has no incentive to let us access “free music” when they want people to sign up to Apple Music.

I think it would be great in the event of an emergency type situation when data tends to be harder (if not impossible) to access and radio communication becomes more important than ever.

Probably won't upgrade from the 13 Pro, but I am interested in seeing the picture quality of the improved cameras.

Looking forward to this phone getting lighter and having USB-C and that won't be this year.
I'm a sucker for image quality but I found out it's more economical to buy EOS R6 instead. Save the family trips / travels for the Full Frame and iPhone 13 Pro Max for impromptu snaps.

If it's anything like how people were saying the M2 was just a rebranded M1, I wouldn't worry about how it's "jerry-rigged". I think the real-life performance increase on the M2 is more than enough to qualify for an increased version number even if it's architecturally similar to the M1.
I’m basing this on the rumors that Apple will be using an A15 with minor tweaking and calling it an A16 for “marketing purposes” or such. I guess it wouldn’t look good if they just kept calling it an A15 on their specs chart during their presentation. A tear-down and performance analysis from third parties should shed some light if these rumors have merit.

Is it possible that we will see a global mmWave model, even if that is for the Pro models? The satellite feature seems a little unrealistic. I'd expect a large antenna to be needed for that, but I'm am not a hardware engineer, so maybe it is possible and just seems unrealistic to me.

How many countries use mmWave?

I am not sure I know the answer to this. I know that USA and Japan use it. And in Europe there are trials in several countries.

My thought process around mmWave is not to offer the feature in a market only if they have mmWave deployed, but since it is a "Pro" model for people that may travel frequently to countries with mmWave support, they could take advantage of it.

Some countries in the EU are trialling it, but it's nowhere near ubiquitous - the technology would likely involve more masts being installed due to the conditions required to make it even worthwhile.

I haven't checked the forum or what users are saying, but I do recall that many where saying that there needed to be specific conditions to take advantage of it, which most countries aren't there yet

Agreed,

My watch is still an Apple Watch 3 Cellular, my iPhone 11 Pro Max was only upgraded to an iPhone 13 because I grew tired of the size.

On the phone front though, I do time sensitive social media for a couple of publications, so having USB-C file transfers to the ultra powerful device is super important to me. That said, I have moved most of my workflow over to an iPad mini 6, as the USB-C on it, and small size make it quite a potent machine for me.

Still, I would like to travel smaller at times, so having USB-C or better on the iPhone would be great. After they move the IO, I would likely have that phone for 3-4 years.

Wahoo! $799 so I can constantly be bombarded with spam calls. Nope don't care about carrying the phone anymore it has become such a horrible aggravation. Upgrading? I want to throw it against a wall.
Google Pixel phone is your answer. I'm writing this on a Pixel 6 Pro. They come with Google Call Screen, every unknown call gets screened and the caller has to say who they are and the reason why they're calling. It does require you to look at the screen to see what the responses are, otherwise you might miss a call. But you don't have to answer or talk to them.

I am loving my MacBook Pro M1 so much that I want to switch entirely to Apple. But will I be making a mistake getting the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch series 8 if there are no significant upgrades? I feel like fall 2023 is when there will be big upgrades and after a year I will be wishing I had the new ones.

Yep, the incentive for them and other companies NOT to add FM radio is sadly just too large. Over so many years it seems like it should be an option at least a few phones though.
Your excellent point about its utility in emergency situation makes its absence even more striking to me, seems like Apple and others could add it as another marketing point about another safety feature. Oh well, one can dream!
Meanwhile I did send them my two cents about it at www.apple.com/feedback 🤗

How about doing something innovative like making the iPhone 14 Pro Max lighter? How about making it out of lightweight material and charging less? It's only going in a case anyway.
That will happened right after Apple delivers a mini-tower Mac.

Having an iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad make having a Mac twice as nice. The integrations are fricking outstanding.

Aaah the September-maybe-October update event(s)! I used to be interested in the new equipment, sometimes software, but now I mostly look forward to what new ways Tim Cook will use to tell us how “excited” Apple is to deliver marginally-improved iPhones, watches, and so on, with the cavalcade of managers/directors/VPs following him to ‘splain it, and take 90 minutes or more to do it. There might even be another “courageous” moment when Apple shows the new watch without a winding knob, or iPhone with no ports whatsoever. With the drone footage, speakers standing atop the $1billion doughnut (why?), and no one at all in the Jobs Theater, the production team should receive Emmy nominations for their work.

Nah don’t think that way. One year of the absolute newest tech is NOT a year wasted.

Jump in at the 14, and if there really is some amazing feature with the 15 that you really want, trade-in or sell the 14…. Be okay with the 200-300 operating cost of one year ownership (retail buy - resale price = operating cost).

You’ll enjoy the 14 no matter what, and the 8 Watch as well!
