Anyone else block off their calendar tomorrow to watch it in the morning?
I had it blocked, but given not much is going to happen and the fact it won't rain today (a rare thing here) is actually more exciting news than anything Apple will say today means I'll join friends out for drinks and wait for the MR summary.

I’m not really interested in the new iPhone but might be tempted to grab the new Apple Watch. I love my S9 but if it has interesting new features and a slimmer design + larger screen then I’ll probably want it lol.

I had iPhone 12 Pro and then upgraded to iPhone 14 Pro. I guess I’m going to sit this one out too. I’ll wait for some real changes because it’s just more of the same with minimal changes every year.

Apple will hold its annual fall iPhone-centric event on Monday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. There are multiple new devices on the horizon, including new iPhone 16 models, refreshes for all of the Apple Watches, new AirPods 4, and perhaps some other surprises.

This guide highlights everything that we might see at Apple's "It's Glowtime" event based on current rumors.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will look almost identical to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, with few design changes planned, but there are new capabilities to look forward to.

Apple plans to bring the Action Button to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, so it won't be a Pro-exclusive feature anymore and will be available on all iPhone 16 models. The Action Button can be set to turn on a Focus mode, activate a Shortcut, open the Camera, activate the Flashlight, and more. With iOS 18, it can do even more because you can also assign Control Center controls to the Action Button, and third-party developers can now make Control Center options.

Dummy models featuring the rumored iPhone 16 colors

Along with the Action Button, all iPhone 16 models could have a Capture Button, located on the right side of the iPhone below the Power Button. On U.S. iPhones, it will be located where the mmWave antenna is on the iPhone 15 models, with the antenna moving to the left with the iPhone 16 lineup. While most rumors have suggested it's coming to all models, there is a chance that it could be limited to the Pro models.

The Capture Button will be used to take images and video, and it will respond to pressure and touch for extra gesture support. A light press will autofocus, while a harder press will take the shot. Swiping left and right will zoom in or out, and there may also be an option for swapping between photo and video modes.

Rather than the diagonal camera that Apple has used for the last several iPhone models, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will have a vertical camera arrangement for the dual-lens camera system. The vertical arrangement could allow for the iPhones to capture spatial video for the Vision Pro.

The Main camera isn't expected to get an upgrade, but Apple might boost the aperture of the Ultra Wide camera to improve low-light performance and add support for macro mode for the first time.

There will be new colors for the iPhone 16 models, with some rumors suggesting we'll see black, green, light pink, blue, and white for five total color options, and other rumors pointing toward green, white, pink, and blue. In both of these scenarios, the white replaces the yellow Apple used for the iPhone 15 models. Apple is rumored to be using the color-infused back glass that it used for the iPhone 15, but with a frosted effect for the glass that contrasts with the frame color.

Apple could opt for a more power efficient OLED display that might improve battery life while also increasing overall brightness.

A18 chips will be in all the iPhone 16 models, which means the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will support the Apple Intelligence features that are coming in iOS 18. There could also be some iPhone-specific Apple Intelligence functionality that hasn't yet been announced.

The A18 chips will be built on TSMC's 3-nanometer process, with Apple expected to include Neural Engine improvements for Apple Intelligence. Both iPhone 16 models will get 8GB RAM, up from 6GB in the prior-generation models in order to support AI. Apple may also be planning for a new thermal design that will combat overheating and improve performance.

There could be some minor increases to battery life for the standard iPhone 16 model, as it is rumored to be getting a minor capacity boost. Depending on the chip efficiency, we could see some small improvements for both models, but that will depend on how much battery the new features eat up.

We have more on the features coming to the iPhone 16 in our roundup.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

Like the iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will get the all-new Capture Button, and in these devices, it will be accompanied by some camera improvements.

Apple is planning for a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens that uses pixel binning down to 12-megapixels, and the end result is basically much better performance in low-light for your wide-angle shots and your macro photos. The 5x Telephoto lens that was limited to the 15 Pro Max will be coming to the 16 Pro, so both Pro models will have it this time around.

iPhone-16-Pro-Left-Side-Feature.jpg

The iPhone 16 Pro models may be able to record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, an increase over the current 60 frames per second limit when filming in 4K. Apple has also tested 8K recording, but it is not clear if that made it into the launch version of the device. Apple also plans to add a feature for pausing and resuming a video recording.

Display size is getting bigger, and it's the first time we've seen an increase in display size since the iPhone 12. The iPhone 16 display will measure in at 6.3 inches, up from 6.1, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch display, up from 6.7 inches. The change is not drastic, but it will be noticeable if you have an iPhone 16 Pro next to an iPhone 15 Pro.

There could be some improvements to the Main camera, and there's a chance the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a new Sony sensor that offers higher-quality images with better dynamic range and noise control.

We're also expecting the bezels around the edge of the display to be slimmed down, and Apple is rumored to be adopting more efficient OLED display technology, so we could see some improvements to brightness and contrast. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the bezels could be about a third smaller.

All of the iPhone 16 models will get an A18 chip, but there could be variants. Apple could use a higher-end A18 chip with an extra GPU core in the Pro models, which would let all iPhone 16 devices run Apple Intelligence, but would still provide for... Click here to read rest of article

Very excited for the 16 Pro Max!

Dear Tim Cook and the team at Apple,

I’m writing this as a humble (and slightly desperate) request: Please do NOT launch the iPhone 16 Pro Max today. My iPhone 15 Pro Max is barely 1 year old, and I’m still basking in the sweet, sweet feeling of being the proud owner of “the latest and greatest iPhone.” It’s been a thrilling ride, showing off the Dynamic Island and pretending that 48MP photos somehow make me a professional photographer.

But here we are, on the brink of another Apple Event, and I can already feel the dread setting in. I just got used to flexing my shiny titanium edges in front of my friends. If you release the iPhone 16 Pro Max, my phone will be yesterday’s news, and my heart simply can’t handle the downgrade in status. Plus, my bank account isn’t emotionally ready for another hit, and my wallet has PTSD from the last upgrade.

Yours sincerely,

An Apple Fan Desperately Clinging to Last Year’s Glory

Yes, I'm certain.

As a seasoned member, I can assure you that over the years, I have witnessed an overwhelming number of innovative ideas presented by our community.

"At least those who criticize Apple for its lack of innovation or limited color options provide constructive feedback."

That's a real hoot! Constructive feedback? To who? Other forum members complaining? That just provokes more discord/rage and solves no issues/problems.

Sir,

It is important to note that similar discussions can be found on various online forums, including car forums, game forums, woodworking forums, and even specialized forums dedicated to cuckoo clocks, gardening, and underwear.

Individuals often engage in venting and sharing ideas on these forums, even if they are not directly addressed to the companies they are criticizing. While it is true that some manufacturers do monitor certain fan forums, it is not entirely inconsequential.

Moreover, online forums would lose their dynamic nature if every user shared the same opinions and consistently praised the company associated with the forum they were participating in.

The way to provide constructive feedback is to write a thoughtful (and adult level) detailed letter to either Craig F or Tim C at Apple expressing concerns and recommendations, backed up with some supporting data/information. It will be read and considered. And you'll receive a response back with their thanks. I know from personal experience.

Many individuals engage in such practices with Apple.

I suspect that's waaaay too much trouble for many. It's much easier to make a bunch of noise on the forum and call it a day.

Why not both approaches? How can you ascertain whether some of the members here are not, in fact, Apple employees? Over the years, Apple has appropriated numerous ideas from the jailbreak community. It is intriguing to consider how they gained knowledge of these ideas.

Anyone know when the ATV app is likely to be updated with a link to the event? Neither the app on my phone/ipad nor the ATV itself is showing anything yet?

Okay so about 80% of this thread is filled with “hate” and “complains” seriously can you all at least explain or give more insight on why you are hating on it or complaining you all just going “oh it’s the same thing eh boring” Well it’s not the same thing at all clearly if u look at the specs they are getting better each year and this year is exciting with new cameras upgrade especially the 48mp ultra-wide which is gonna amazing alongside with as rumoured “metal casing battery” bigger displays, A18 Pro Chip, more advanced hardware, and other stuff that Apple will announce on the event this seems pretty good all this new nothing the same as last year lol you all are just trying to find a excuse when there isn’t one and the most cringe and hidious complain that I see is “I have 15 Pro Max and won’t be upgrading to the same thing again” Well don’t upgrade man no one forcing anyone but please for God sake stop saying it’s the same device when it’s not look the specs then come talk.

Nothing of interest for me today bar a potential shadow drop of a new Apple TV.

Good lord am I finally growing up? Lol
Yeah Apple TV would be really nice, sick and tired of stupid Samsung Smart TV that became brick just after 3 years of ALMOST NO USAGE

was the “one more thing” canceled?
Asking for a friend…
I might be breaking my NDA with Apple here, but we're so close to the event that it's probably ok...I can promise you that there will be at least two "one more thing"s at this Glowtime event:
1) The next iPhone will come with an integrated cutlery drawer for storing cutlery in
2) The next iPhone will also come with factory detector that will alert you if you get too close to a factory

😁 that’s great.

A board such as this is populated by fan-people (like myself) who read and blog about tech as a form of entertainment. we require a constant stream of fresh news to keep ourselves engaged. Some go to the somewhat masochistic length of upgrading annually, fine if your livelihood depends on it but unrealistic for everyone else. If the new iPhone isn't 'exciting' (its a phone, not a new pet) then the ennui sets in and eyes drift to the gimmicks of Android. A folding spoon is still a spoon.

What we forget is that companies like Apple operate on a very different continuum. With the majority of people ofsetting their phone purchase against a 3-year plan and product roadmaps set out over a decade, Apple is selling their latest handset to those on a 12 or 13 coming out of a contract. The annual release schedule isn't to appease their fan-people (who will still buy it regardless) but rather to make sure those on the 3-4 year upgrade cycle don't jump ship to Android.

Is the iPhone 16 likely to be a huge departure from the 15? No, of course not. Its not designed to be. Regular people don't buy a new phone every year any more than they do a TV, House, Fridge or Dog. The iPhone 16 is just the next point on Apple's graph climbing towards 2027, the iPhone 20 and their next decade refresh.

Apple needs some changes at the top. Their product cycles have floundered for years now. The new IPP sucks without new software, nothing new in iPhone, or Watch, they nickle and dime RAM and storage, vision pro is useless.

It needs a fuel facility detector.

They'd sell millions to Russians trying to stay safe.

I think a lot of us recognize the product upgrades are very solid each year. Don’t just tack on junk to the iPhone just to say it’s “new.” Give us quality incremental updates that improve robust performance, and preferably at better prices.

We don’t need flash. We need good, solid devices that work flawlessly out of the box.

I expect to be bored.

Boring iPhone, boring Apple Watch, and so on. If Apple actually comes up with something interesting I’ll be shocked. But I will admit I’d be tempted if they went back to stainless steel sides. Yes, it has come to this…

I’m most excited for the new AirPods - mine have been acting weird for months and I have put off buying new ones for the sole fact that I refuse to buy anymore products with a Lightening Port on it. If they don’t go USB-C on the new case, I’m going to look at a different set of headphones

"One more thing" --> We have re-invented the "flip phone".
We call it “Truly Secure Apple Ultra Privacy”. We also added titanium accents to the plastic. Only 2,500.00 and only by pre-order due to logistics of the crushing interest in this device.

Or skip the lineup and we will convert your existing iPhone to work like a feature phone for a reasonable monthly subscription fee!
