I just ordered

MBP 15 inch 2.4ghz and choose the 7200rpm hard drive
Everything else is standard.

Regular Price : £1699

ADC Price : £1358

Not sure about education price :D

I think the HE discount is about 15%, so that would be about £1444 (can anyone verify this?). When you factor in the ADC cost, £50, you still saved over £50 - plus you'll get Leopard for free, so it's probably worth it.

But I'm guessing you didn't get the iPod promo...which for me would have saved me £100 anyway.

Still pretty cool though...I might have to get me this. ^_^

This thread is on its way to being among the most hit of MY threads. So at least its getting out there.

Im studying Computer Science Degree as well, so im into programming. That was one of the reason I joined.

You don't get the iPod promo as your treated as a developer, regardless of if your a student or a select/premier member.

Help

Can someone please help...LOL....I am sooo excited about my decision to switch to a mac....I'm buying a 15" SR MBP 2.4Ghz 256Vram but I can't freakin find the shop to buy it from....Heres the scoop...I am also going this route and using an ADC discount...So I purchased my membership (cost me 117 CA) and then today I emailed them all my student info and ID and then I called them to make they got it (the ADC membership call center is in Scotland and the best customer service i've ever had at apple) anyways, I'm all verified now and ready to buy, but I had work to do earlier, so now I am trying to put my order in before I leave the office and I can't find the spot to order from...I can sign into my adc account but whenever i go to the 'store' it takes me to the normal apple prices....ADC is now closed so when I call normal customer service they are morons and transfer me to depts like EDU and they are all closed...I just wanna buy my laptop and go away for the weekend...hahah:p

thanks

thanks for the help...finally got a supervisor on the phone who helped me....

I ended up going to developer.apple.com/membership/canada.html
and then clicking on select member store and now I am finally in the ADC member store and I can see the MBP i want for $2,239.00.....Sure wasnt easy to find this link though....nonetheless i put this order through and I got 1-3 business day wait......cannnot freakin wait!!!!!!!!! :D

thanks for the help

Can someone please post verification that ADC membership WILL get Leopard when it comes out for free? The FULL Leopard, not just the Beta.

I'm pretty sure in the fine print of the ADC discount, you'll find that the computers you buy through ADC do NOT have a warranty.

That's worth far more than the $120+ saved.

That wouldn't make any sense if they did that.

Anyway, I did look at the fine print

All products are
accompanied by Apple's standard limited hardware warranty for those products.

There is no verification. I was told that Apple hasn't even said if Select and Premier members will be getting the full retail version. However, I was told that historically Apple gives the latest OS to the student developers. It won't be the day it comes out, but most likely it will happen.

Here is my thought. Apple only sells Intel Macs now, if they send you Tiger you are getting a PPC copy (confirmed by ADC rep), what good does that do someone who just bought an Intel Mac?

This isn't to say Apple HAS to give you Leopard, but it really makes sense especially in this case.

You don't have to take chances. I actually want to develop and so for me the student ADC is a good way to get some extra resources for developing and extra help in getting a computer to do that on.

Another example:

Quad Core 3.0 GHz Mac Pro + 1 GB RAM + 250 GB HDD + ATI x1900XT + BT/AE

Regular price: $3626.00

Edu price: $3313.00

ADC price: $2999.00 (including $99 student membership fee)

None of these prices include tax (yay NH).

So you save exactly twice as much by going ADC. Definitely worth it!

What are the other benefits associated with going the ADC route? What perks are associated with it? I imagine that the ADC isn't expecting all their memberships to be for Mac purchases alone. What do you gain from being a member?

Ok, so I added the Student ADC membership to my cart and bought it. Do I actually have to wait for something to come in the mail? And how do I verify myself as a student?

Follow the steps outlined here...you have to fax in verification (as they specify on that page) of identity and student status.

those steps are right....you don't need to wait for anyting in the mail..As soon as u get ur activation code by email (usually a few hours after ADC membership purchase goes through) then you can verify your student status right away..no need to hunt down a fax machine either...you can just make a pdf or doc etc with your schools letter head and your transcript and email it straight to them...they can verify it within minutes....

Best help I found on this is the ADC membership call center...nicest guys I've spoken to at apple...if your in canada or the U.S. just call (800) 633 2152 and they will walk you through the whole process...

I did this on friday and my MBP has already shipped....now I just have to sit here and wait wondering when it will arrive:p

This is true, historically Apple has given Student ADC members a copy of the new OS shortly after it comes out as part of the monthly DVD mailing.

I still have several versions of OS9 (in different languages) and OSX that I've gotten in the past while a Student ADC member.

I was planning on getting a Student Membership when I finally go away to college to get my kick-awesomely tricked-out Mac Pro. But then I did some thinking; it's a Developer membership, correct? Wouldn't that mean Apple would not only require proof of college registration, but also verification that you will be using your computer for developmental means? Otherwise, what would stop college-bound students from simply getting a SADC membership and shirking over the Education store? What does Apple consider to be development work if they do require this proof? Perhaps I've just missed something here...

Thanks, even for flames,
Skil

They don't require ANY sort of verification that you are a dev.

Nothing stops kids from using it for other then development.

You've made my life. Seriously. I'm getting my Mac Pro in the last week of July '08 (that's right, I'm only a high school senior!). I've known that I've wanted the professional Mac ever since the first G5 in June '03, and would now be doing cartwheels around my house at this revelation were it not for the removal of my four wisdom teeth not 12 hours ago. It pains me to see Leopard's new features, and it's a stab in the heart to know that I won't get to use them until I get my Mac Pro. Maybe my mom could swing me a free copy (being a teacher, she was able to get a 5-license copy of Jaguar for free) for our home iMac. Again, phenomenal news at the SADC membership ability. (and at Safari 3, which now forces forum users to spell things correctly with spell-check as one types!) Thanks, everyone!

Jaguar is 3 OSes old, so unless you have Cheetah or Puma on those (or mac os 9.2.2) it's not worth down-grading lol. Seriously though I think I mis-read that so if you're meaning she can get a 5 license copy of Tiger/or Leopard for free, then I say go for it.
